Information Network for Christian Homes * 3721 W. Michigan, Suite 200 * Lansing, MI 48917 Phone: 517-481-5994 * Email: [email protected] * Website: www.inch.org WELCOME TO INCH' S 28 TH ANNUAL MMIICCHHIIGGAANN HHOOMMEE EEDDUUCCAATTIIOONN CCOONNVVEENNTTIIOONN!!

WE ARE SO EXCITED YOU 'RE HERE ! Welcome Welcome to the 28th annual INCH Convention! It is our honor and privilege to work together with all of you to promote the , pass on the faith, and preserve our freedom.

Please feel free to stop by the INCH Information table to say hello, and look for all the red-shirted folks available to assist you and answer your questions. Our lineup is outstanding this year and we trust that everyone will find a message that encourages, a workshop or two that educates, and some material from the vendors that better equips us for making disciples of Jesus Christ in our homes.

There is a fervent battle raging for the hearts and minds of our children, seeking to destroy the knowledge of God and His rule over every realm of men. But we believe God has raised up the Christian homeschool movement to accomplish His objective of turning the hearts of fathers back to their children so that the next generation will hear about the Lord when they rise up and when they lie down and when they walk along the way.

2 Corinthians 5:9 states that we are to “make it our goal to please Him.” This sentiment is the objective of our convention and all our efforts at home discipleship… to bring honor and glory to our Father in heaven. May His name be lifted up and His will and work be accomplished here, as it is in heaven. We pray each of you will leave instructed, informed, and inspired to continue in this most important work of raising children for the glory of God and His good pleasure. Enjoy the convention and your home education adventures!

For the King’s good pleasure, Mike & Kim Winter INCH Convention Coordinators

Convention Policies Please Read Carefully!

Children : We LOVE children and we are attempting to make the convention as "family-friendly" as possible, welcoming children ages 5 and up with open arms— but trusting that families will be willing to abide by the following guidelines in order to make the conference a positive experience for all attendees.

1) We are asking that those 4 years old and under be cared for off-site … except nursing babies of course. Please find childcare for your little ones with relatives or friends so that your time at the convention can be as profitable as possible. Unfortunately, each year we receive several complaints that parents with noisy babies did not leave sessions promptly when babies became a distraction. Some workshop recordings have even been rendered useless because of noisy infants. Parents, please be sensitive to everyone around you and leave the workshops or general sessions if your baby is the least bit noisy. Thank you!!

2) All 5 to 12 year olds in attendance need to be signed up for the Children's Conference as they are not allowed in the workshops. These presentations have limited seating and are geared for adults and young adults, not children. During the keynote sessions, however, children will have the option of attending either the children's conference or sitting in the general session with their parents.

3) 5 to 12 year olds must remain under the direct supervision of their parents and stay with them at all times while in the concourse area, vendor hall, or main hall— i.e. at any time they are not in the Children's Conference room under the supervision of the Children's Conference workers.

Security-Identification : It is necessary that whatever means is used to identify convention attendees, i.e. wristbands and nametags, be worn and visible at all times in the convention center. The Lansing Center is an public facility, meaning anyone not associated with the convention can walk through the concourse part of the building at any time. It is important for everyone to be able to quickly identify whether or not someone is a convention participant if they are anywhere other than in the open concourse area. If it is noticed that someone is not a convention participant and is in any workshop, exhibit hall or keynote session, please bring it to the attention of a member of the convention staff immediately. It is important that we maintain a safe and secure event.

Exhibit Hall : The Exhibitors are not directly affiliated with INCH. Convention attendees should take note that the views, attitudes and behaviors of the exhibitors are not necessarily shared by INCH.

Food and Beverages : Please do not bring outside food and beverages with you into the Lansing Center. The Lansing Center Food & Beverage Department is proud to be the exclusive caterer for all events at the Lansing Center. Refreshments will be for sale for our attendees throughout the weekend, including a lunch special in the rear of the exhibit hall on Saturday. There are also numerous vending machines located throughout the building. If you desire to pack drinks, snacks, or lunches for your family, please refrain from bringing them into the building … Picnic tables are available outside near the river for your outdoor dining pleasure.

Cell Phones & Pagers : Our preference is that cell phones and pagers be turned off whenever you are in a session. If, for emergency purposes, you must leave them on, please put phones on a vibrate only mode, and answer phone calls only after leaving the session.

General Sessions : We strongly encourage everyone to attend the general sessions. All important announcements, changes and instructions will be given during this time. The exhibit hall will be open continuously through all workshop periods, dinner and lunch. The exhibit hall will close prior to the beginning of each general session and will remain closed until the end of the general session. An announcement will be made in the exhibit hall to signal the beginning of a general session. When the announcement is made in the exhibit hall we ask that you conclude your shopping and move immediately to the auditorium.

Workshop Preferences: This year we are not asking for your workshop session preferences with your registration. Seating in the workshops will be first come, first served. You can help us plan for the demand for each speaker by completing this survey.

FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY : This number may be given to a family member or provider to reach parents at the convention: 517-481-5994

Home Education: Establishing a Family -Driven Faith Dr. Voddie Baucham –Friday evening Do you have a biblical theology of education? Or do you simply educate your children at home because it promises safety, security, and higher SAT scores? This session is designed to examine the Scriptures with a view toward a biblical theology of educati on that will serve as a foundation upon which families can build a philosophy of true home discipleship.

The Lost Art of Christian Heroism Eric & Leslie Ludy - Saturday morning Based on Eric’s popular book, The Bravehearted Gospel, this message is a powerful wake-up call to the modern church. With typical Eric Ludy candor and passion, this message will ignite your soul with the desire to fight for all that is sacred and all that is true. This message will resonate deeply with anyone interested in u pholding the integrity of the Word of God and the moorings of Biblical faith in these confusing times of post-modern emergence.

Multigenerational Vision Dr. Voddie Baucham – Saturday afternoon Before we can do r ight, we must learn to think right. We all act in accordance with what we believe. Unfortunately, many Christians believe things about , family and children that are grossly unbiblical. As a result we simply live for today with no thought for th e consequences to coming generations. Once we grasp a multi -generational vision the pieces begin to fall into place.

FEATURE PRESENTATIONS - MAIN HALL

Family Discipleship 101: By Voddie Baucham (WORKSHOP #1 – FRI., 1:00 PM) What is your plan for discipling your children? This is a question most Christian parents cannot answer. What’s worse, they have never been asked. We must have a plan for walking with our children, teaching them, and encouraging them to walk with God. We all have an academic plan (classes they need to take, grades they should make, etc.); it is simply tragic that the spiritual equivalent is largely non- existent. This session provides Biblical tools for walking our children through the discipline/training phase, the catechism phase, and the discipleship phase as we prepare to launch them into the world.

Wrestling Prayer: Gaining Power & Victory for the Christian Life: By Eric & Leslie Ludy (WORKSHOP #13– FRI., 2:15 PM) This powerful message establishes that God is every bit as big as He claims to be, and that He desires to do big things in the lives of His believers. Eric and Leslie Ludy challenge the mediocre expectations that many modern believers have of God, and help Christians discover the power of wrestling prayer, persistent faith, and putting on the spiritual armor of God. This session inspires believers toward building a vibrant prayer life & overcoming spiritual weakness in order to be truly ready- able to make a godly impact upon the world.

Grace and Truth: God of the vs. the God of Modern Christianity: By Eric Ludy (WORKSHOP #25 – FRI., 3:30 PM ) Grace is more than the merciful hug of God; it’s the divine enabling power of His Spirit to transform a human life from the inside out; to supernaturally equip us to live a life that would be impossible in our own strength. Love, joy and peace are not meant to be merely nice- sounding Scriptural concepts, but rather the daily experience and outflow of the Christian’s life. In this session, Eric Ludy casts a vision for historic, Biblical Christianity, and gives a clear understanding for how to not just esteem Truth, but live it out daily through the enabling power of God.

Introduction to Family Worship: By Voddie Baucham (WORKSHOP #37 – FRI., 4:45 PM) In two hundred years we have gone from a time when family worship was the norm in Christian homes to a time when nine out of ten Christian parents cannot tell you what the term means. Our homes should be places where Christ is worshipped on a daily basis. If we truly believe that he is central to all of life, then our homes must reflect that in the way we spend our time. In this session attendees will learn how to start a simple, powerful, life-changing practice that will turn ten to fifteen minutes a day into multi-generational impact.

Biblical Manhood in the Home: By Voddie Baucham (WORKSHOP #49 – SAT., 10:00 AM) One of the most glaring shortcomings in the home education movement over the years has been the absence of male involvement. Women have shouldered the load with men often contributing little more than book money. As a result, there are many frustrated mothers, confused sons, and stressed in desperate need of help. This session offers a biblical look at the father’s role in the home and why it is absolutely essential to a successful home education. We’ll address issues like feminism, hyper-patriarchy, and other excesses that have led to a complete lack of balance and order in many Christian homes. We will also see how the gospel addresses these issues and brings hope and healing.

Teaching True Love: Preparing Your Children for a God-Scripted Love Story: By Eric & Leslie Ludy (WORKSHOP #61 – SAT., 11:15 AM) This is a vital message for parents – no matter what age your children are. Eric and Leslie Ludy offer practical, Biblical advice for helping your children experience God’s best in their future love story. Learn how to lay the foundation right now in your children’s lives for a God- centered romance and a future marriage that will go the distance. Come gain a clear understanding of how to impart God’s pattern for faithfulness and purity to your children, and help them avoid the many pitfalls and temptations of our culture.

R.E.A.L. L.I.F.E. Homeschooling: By Heidi St. John (WORKSHOP #73 – SAT. 3:00 PM) Let's face it: Homeschooling is challenging. Sometimes it can feel like a major accomplishment just to take a shower and get the breakfast dishes cleaned up before dinner! Most homeschool moms feel the pressure of providing their children with a solid academic foundation ~ but there's so much more to homeschooling than academics, isn't there? The truth is that the greatest accomplishment of your homeschooling is to nurture your children in the ways of the One who made them. REAL LIFE Homeschooling is about getting real when it comes to the issues that are unique to homeschooling families ~ but more important than that, it's about being reminded why we are homeschooling in the first place. It's about keeping our eyes on the goal of discipling our children. If you’ve ever been on the edge of homeschool burnout, if you are wondering why God has called you on this homeschooling journey, or if you just need some real honest encouragement, this is the one session you can't afford to miss!

Culture Wars: How They Affect the Homeschool Family: By Voddie Baucham (WORKSHOP #85 – SAT., 4:15 PM) It is impossible to separate education and worldview. In fact, the main purpose of education is worldview discipleship. There is a mighty clash of worldviews going on all around us, and there is no way to escape. Educating our children at home will only postpone the inevitable. Our children WILL engage the culture. The only question is, will they do so as lambs going off to slaughter, or will they be sheep among wolves who are “wise as serpents and innocent as doves”? (Matthew 10:16)

Often disabilities drive families apart; God was gracious to provide and sustain us all and caused our family to walk in united understanding to ward one another and the ‘unknowns’ disability brings." SPECIAL FEATURES FOR INCH FAMILIES! Watch a Movie! Indoctrination: To instruct in a doctrine, principle, ideology, etc., esp. to imbue with a specific partisan or biased belief or point of view. “IndoctriNation” is a 90-minute documentary film that takes the audience on a panoramic exploration of one of the most important and controversial issues in the history of mankind, the issue of education. Traveling all over America with his family in a big yellow school bus and conducting a series of candid conversational interviews, Colin Gunn, a Scottish filmmaker, actor, and homeschool father of seven children living in Texas, is on a quest to discover the origins of our modern educational system. What he discovers is a masterful design that sought to replace God’s recipe for training up the next generation with a humanistic, man-centered program that fragmented the family and undermined the influence of the Church and its Great Commission. Part documentary, part testimonial -- a confessional and a rebuke, this film is above all a challenge and an encouragement to millions of Christians who need to know what history, experience, and the Scriptures have to say about what is perhaps the pivotal issue of our time: the discipleship and training of the next generation.

The Child is a documentary that explores the current state of parental rights in America. An unseen battle is developing between the rights of parents and the authority of the government to direct the upbringing and education of children. The stakes are high; the outcome of this struggle will affect countless future generations. Little public attention has been given to the issue of parental rights. Few people understand what "parental rights" are, much less that they risk losing them. The Child will fill this void of unawareness by xplaining the situation: What parental rights are, how they are being threatened, what the consequences will be, and what can be done to defend the rights of American parents to raise their children in liberty and peace. Featured in the film are interviews with experts, leaders, and sadly, parents and children who have already experienced the pain and consequences of misguided government intervention in their family. America is at a turning point. It is vitally important to the survival of our nation that American citizens realize how much they stand to gain or lose on this one issue alone. Because it is not just "an issue" - it is a battle for the future.

2011 Children’s Conference for ages 5-8 & 9-12 The children’s conference will be held in the adjoining Radisson Hotel. There we have two large rooms: one for ages 5-8, and the other for ages 9-12. The hours of the Children's Conference coincide with INCH's workshop offerings, beginning about 15 minutes prior to the start of workshops so that you can drop children off and still get to your workshops on time, and concluding immediately following the adult workshops. (12:45 – 5:45 pm on Friday, 9:45 am - 12:15 pm and 2:45 - 5:15 pm on Saturday.) During keynote sessions, the Children's Conference will have optional programming offered, with only one room (where the younger children meet) open, as we assume many families would like to have their children sit with them in the auditorium during these sessions. Ride the Waves… At CCI, we are honored to have the opportunity to support churches and families as in their efforts to raise their children to know and follow Jesus. Every year our creative teams endeavor to create programs that are Biblical, engaging, and age-appropriate. This year is no exception! Your children will learn about discipleship (following Jesus no matter what) and trusting God and their parents as they follow the wild and wacky adventures of Wally the Wave Rider and his friends as they try to become surfers by following the teaching of the Instructor. This years skits and stories emphasize the character qualities of obedience, faith, and compassion with application to the daily lives and experiences of the children.

1. Family Discipleship 101 (Main Hall A) By Voddie Baucham What is your plan for discipling your children? This is a question most Christian parents cannot answer. What’s worse, they have never been asked. We must have a plan for walking with our children, teaching them, and encouraging them to walk with God. We all have an academic plan (classes they need to take, grades they should make, etc.); it is simply tragic that the spiritual equivalent is largely non-existent. This session provides Biblical tools for walking our children through the discipline/training phase, the catechism phase, and the discipleship phase as we prepare to launch them into the world.

2. Media Choices: Convictions or Compromise? (Rooms 203-204) By Phillip Telfer Need help for living in our media saturated society? Do you ever wonder about the impact on your generation of all the video games, Facebook, YouTube, iPods, texting, television and more? Does it ever feel as if you are cowering like Israel before the media/technology giant Goliath… who continues to mock God and taunt our nation? Have no fear, there’s help to be found in God’s Word! This workshop will give you strategies and courage to say, “I will fight the giant!” in your own life and for the sake of your generation -- using Biblical principles instead of legalistic rules.

3. You CAN Homeschool High School! (Room 205) By Bret Welshymer Studies indicate that homeschooled high-schoolers are far more likely to remain committed to Christ than those who attend public school or even private school. Bret explores high school level subjects, discovering ways to integrate some together and teach your high-schoolers according to graduation standards, but consistently keep a Biblical worldview and focus on Christ top priority. Look forward to homeschooling your student through high school and make Christ a central focus during these crucial growing years.

12. Dyslexia: Neurodevelopmental Causes (Banquet Room 2) By Stephanie Lankhorst Does your child struggle with writing his letters, does he reverse what he hears or reads? Perhaps he has trouble expressing himself with words. Dysphasia and dysgraphia are similar to dyslexia. Poor recall of ideas, inconsistent use of phonics and remembering sight words are also symptoms of dyslexia. Poor coordination in walking and running or poor balance are typical disconnects for children with reading struggles. Do these symptoms relate to an underlying cause? Are there ways to address dyslexia at its core instead of only removing a few symptoms? There is hope! Parents can effectively teach their child, address causes and equip them to overcome symptoms and live to their fullest potential.

37. Introduction to Family Worship (Main Hall A) By Voddie Baucham In two hundred years we have gone from a time when family worship was the norm in Christian homes to a time when nine out of ten Christian parents cannot tell you what the term means. 39. Exploring the Options after High School (Room 205) By Phylicia Duran Many colleges want students to subscribe to the idea that their way is the only way: Debt after four years or even five, with a degree they could have gotten in half the time and money, with MORE experience. This will be an informational overview of what options are available to students after they graduate from high school. Having been to community college, lived on campus at a Christian four year university, and done distance learning, Phylicia Duran has experienced three of the four options to be discussed. The fourth is trade schools-- i.e. building trades, cosmetology, culinary, etc. Not a proponent of any one educational method, Phylicia will encourage students to research which option fits them best and gear all their pursuits and activities towards that end. This workshop will also address how to begin preparing for a career in high school. There are many ways to get a head start on college while students are still in high school. We will discuss building a resume, acing interviews, what jobs, volunteer work, and leadership experience to involve yourself in, how to search for scholarships, how to network and gather references, and what skills to cultivate to impress future employers. This topic will be timely for freshman in high school through age 25—and, of course, parents, too.

40. Finding Freedom from Media Captivity (Rooms 201-202) By Phillip Telfer Finding freedom often starts with an understanding that we might be blind to our captivity. Many adults, young adults, teens, and children have been deceived by the world’s philosophy that freedom means doing whatever you please. Learn what authentic freedom is and how to escape the cultural walls that try to keep us from it.

41. Secrets to Going the Distance (Banquet Rooms 1 & 3) By Heidi St. John YES YOU CAN . Sometimes, these three words help parents who are "on the fence" about homeschooling all the way through high school be confident enough to give it a try. Hey, we won't lie to you! It can be intimidating. But the fact of the matter is that you really CAN do it! Homeschooling through high school is the gift that keeps on giving because it affords the one thing that is so fleeting in the teen years: time. says that children are like arrows in the hand of a warrior and this analogy is a beautiful picture of a healthy parent/teen relationship. Think of an archer and how he prepares to launch his arrow. The archer's goal is to have that arrow hit the target, and go as far as it possibly can when it is released from the bow. If we follow this analogy, it holds several truths for us as we consider the benefits of homeschooling through high school. We'll talk about this ~ and revisit God's heart for discipleship between parents and their children. It doesn't end in high school. And homeschooling, in the hands of godly parents, becomes a tool that is unmatched as we raise our children to love and follow God.

55. God’s Design for Choosing a Mate (Rooms 101-102) By Tom Houck The second most important decision someone will ever make is whom they choose to marry. Whether consciously or not, everyone uses a certain criteria for making that choice. The Bible has a lot to say on this subject. Long before a person decides whom they are going to marry it is best to decide what method they are going to use to make that choice. I will separate them into three categories that I titled Revelation, Resume and Forfeit. The earlier in life the biblical method of choosing whom to marry is used, the more protection and blessing a person can receive. This decision has a dramatic impact on how a person lives their life even at early ages. Out of all the different methods people use to choose their spouse, there is only one biblically based method that contributes mightily to the success of a marriage and doesn’t violate other scriptural directives.

Most homeschool moms feel the pressure of providing their children with a solid academic foundation ~ but there's so much more to homeschooling than academics, isn't there? The truth is that the greatest accomplishment of your homeschooling is to nurture your children in the ways of the One who made them. It's about keeping our eyes on the goal of discipling our children. The Sacred Claim: The Power of a Poured-out Life (Rooms 203-204) By Eric & Leslie Ludy In this session, Eric and Leslie Ludy explore a crucial aspect of the Gospel that many Christians overlook - every believer’s call to be God’s hands and feet to the lost, the weak, the poor, the destitute and the orphan. Teens have an incredible opportunity during this season of life to make an eternal impact upon the world around them. Eric and Leslie challenge the self-focused mentality that many young people adopt during their teen years, and motivate them toward a God-honoring, outward-focused lifestyle.

75. Paying for College (Room 205) By Gary Mason Do you wonder how you will be able to help your student afford college? Do you have questions about the different kinds of financial aid available and how to apply for them? With the many kinds of aid that are available, you should not assume that any college is “out of reach.” In this session, we will discuss a wide range of topics relating to financial aid and how to find it and secure it.

76. Generations Past, Present, and Future (Rooms 201-202) By James Muffett This powerful multimedia presentation provides a compelling look at our country’s past, present, and future in light of the scriptural charge to be salt & light in our society.

77. Fulfilling the Great Commission without Sacrificing Your Children (Banquet Rooms 1 & 3) By Mercy Hope How long has it been since your family led another soul into the Family of God? Are you satisfied with your effectiveness when it comes to impacting the world around you? Do you shelter your children? Or is your focus on being culturally relevant? What is the balance? This message will explore how to reach out to those needing Christ's love while still protecting your children and strengthening your family unity.

78. Things I Wish I’d Known (Banquet Rooms 5 & 7) By Kathy Holcomb Looking back at our homeschool journey, there are lots of memories, things we did right, things we did wrong and things we would do differently now. “If only I’d known” is my two cents about our experience as we homeschooled through babies, toddlers, kids and teens. This will range from the funny to serious, and may be helpful to both new and veteran homeschoolers. We learned it’s OK to make mistakes and it’s hard to let go. In it all we saw the Lord work and move in all of our lives.

83. Teaching Literature (Banquet Room 4) By Joshua Reish Do names like Shakespeare, Milton, and Longfellow intimidate you as a teacher? Teaching literature can seem like a whirlwind of obscure terms and incomprehensible books. But in this presentation Joshua shows you how to teach your student to analyze the various aspects of the classics, from symbolism, to subtext, to the characters in a way that is easy to understand using examples from some of the books he has taught in beginning literary analysis classes. He will also take you step-by-step through the process of breaking down a complex work of literature in a way that makes the book understandable. In addition, you will learn how to gradually introduce literary analysis to students who have never studied literature before. Your student can develop a deep understanding of the classics in addition to strengthening his or her critical thinking skills through literature.

85. Culture Wars: How They Affect the Homeschool Family (Main Hall A) By Voddie Baucham It is impossible to separate education and worldview.

86. The Counterfeit Life: Entertainment’s Deceptive Messages (Rooms 203-204) By Phillip Telfer Today's entertainment has become one of the biggest stumbling blocks of spiritual growth and family health in this generation. It often portrays deceptive messages about what it means to live life to the fullest. Many hearts and minds have been poisoned with wrong ideas about relationships, accomplishment, purpose, and identity through toxic entertainment. Learn about the messages prevalent in today’s media that could rob you of the real life that God wants you to have.

87. Prelude to Proverbs 3 1: Making the Most of Your Single Years (for Young Ladies) (Room 205) By Phylicia Duran Phylicia Duran, a single homeschool graduate in her 20s, will lead this discussion on using the time after high school graduation to cultivate different skills, learn what it is God has gifted us to do, and live out those gifts with purpose. It will concentrate on being Proverbs 31 women, though not presently or even necessarily wives. She will focus on being content and living joyfully in one's present situation. Following this session, Phylicia is hoping to have an informal discussion about this important topic: "Can Girls Have Guys as Friends?" Feel free to stick around for awhile (or join us at the end of convention) as we confront issues such as flirtation, contentment, friendships, and family.

88. Raising Spiritual Giants in a World Gone Awry (Rooms 201-202) By Steve Lambert Who among us hasn’t seen the relentless slide of our popular culture? What parent isn’t aware of the dangers and threats that exist today that were unimaginable just 40 years ago? Who doesn’t want to raise sons and daughters who have the faith, the character and the knowledge necessary to walk through the world and lead others to the Hope that we know and love? Theories abound on how to raise spiritual giants in a world gone awry, but you’ll discover the one unbelievably simple technique that can give your children their best chance in the years ahead.

89. Looking Back So We Can Move Forward (Banquet Rooms 1 & 3) By Kathy Holcomb Most of us have enjoyed Michigan homeschooling freedoms for our entire homeschooling journey. Imagine this: you’re homeschooling the kids with the shades drawn, making sure you never run errands during traditional school hours, and hoping that your neighbors don’t call social services or the truancy officer on your family. Sound like a bad dream? Believe it or not, this was the reality for Michigan homeschool pioneers. Learn about the history of homeschooling in Michigan before 1996, why it’s important to be diligent in our attention to political rumblings about education, and why it’s imperative that we live up to the homeschooling reputation that we’ve inherited.

90. Habits are Important! (Banquet Rooms 5 & 7) By Shirley Solis Homeschooling pioneer, teacher and philosopher Charlotte Mason said "the mother who takes pains to endow her children with good habits secures for herself smooth and easy days." 91. Mom’s Role in Raising Men (Rooms 101-102) By Michelle Miller Michelle shares the painful realization that she has, while trying to be a good mother, unwittingly taken upon herself areas of her sons' training where God has gifted men to have special impact. While exploring the unique role of fathers (in teaching godly manhood, building a work ethic, etc.), Michelle became conscious of powerful obstructions and their fettering of Christian parents trying to reproduce the faith in the next generation. Fathers report seeing the awesomeness and challenges of their mission in a whole new way!

92. Homeschooling with the Heart of the Father (Rooms 103-104) By Bret Welshymer Consider ways to model your homeschool after our Heavenly Father. We can follow the example found in Psalm 139 of God’s heart for us, his children. Learn practical parenting principles from the very practical ways God relates to us. Real life examples will make this workshop easy to apply to daily life with your children.

93. Natural Childbirth and Childcare (Banquet Room 8) By Dr. Patrick Johnston What are the pros and cons of home-birthing? What are the pros and cons of a hospital birth? Which is safer for the mother and the child? What are the benefits of breast-feeding? What are the risks of bottle-feeding? What about circumcision? What about hormonal birth control? Come hear a pro-life family physician and pediatrician address these issues from a biblical Christian worldview.

94. Speak Up For God: The Ministry of Public Speaking (Banquet Room 6) By Scott McCausey, Eddie Jones, & Cindy Sproles Some are gifted as musicians, others as actors and some as writers, but the gift to speak lies deep within us all. Learning to present thoughts in a clear and concise manner helps in all forms of communications. In this workshop, attendees will learn ways to organize their thoughts, gain tips on beating the jitters, learn presentation suggestions, and the important “self-talk” to ready one's self to speak. Discover how to motivate, prepare and encourage your children to be good communicators. Speaking really is a ministry whether you're a minister, a parent or a public speaker. Your words can change lives.

95. Teaching Math as a Language: What Gets Lost in the Translation? (Banquet Room 4) By Tom Clark Did you know that Mathematics has parts of speech and sentence structure, just as does any spoken language? Did you know that understanding the “grammar” of Mathematics greatly helps student understanding of problem-solving and applications? In this workshop, Tom Clark, founder of VideoText Interactive , clearly and humorously demonstrates this quality of mathematical language. At last, you will truly understand the roles of all types of mathematical symbols, and you will see how easy it is to translate between Mathematics and English, enabling you to improve your understanding, and teaching, of “story problems”, at all levels.

96. Processing Challenges? Yes, There is Hope! (Banquet Room 2) By Stephanie Lankhorst Do you know a child that has difficulty learning phonics and following directions, is highly distractible, and socially immature? Perhaps you are concerned because they have difficulty with math computation and are inconsistent in their recognition of numbers, letters and sight words. Group conversations are confusing to this child and he is visually distracted. If your child has difficulty in any of the above areas, they most likely have an auditory or visual processing problem. This session will help you determine if your child has a processing problem and will teach you what you can do to help.
