Set in 1959, this sequel concerns the every-day lives of those on the backstreets near Tokyo Tower. The Sanno’s upper ranks are now dominated by young executives who promote black-marketeering rather than the traditional underground income sources. The old-guard members are penting up resentment as they see themselves being pushed to the sidelines. This vulnerable spot in the Sanno hierachy is exactly what anti-gang detective Kataoka has been looking for, as the police force prepares a full-scale crackdown. With secret plots and dirty tricks, the ambitious Kataoko will open up a whole new game of yakuza power struggle. Detective Kataoka intends to instigate conflict between the Sanno and the Hanabishi, their long-time neighboring ally, in the hopes that they ultimately destroy each other. To help weaken the Sanno, the underhanded cop also provokes their grumbling old-guard executives to consider usurping Chairman Kato from top position. And Kataoka’s trump card is the arranged release from prison of Otomo, the rumored-dead boss of a family once crushed by the Sanno.

Michaela Oberwinkler Japanische Mimik am Beispiel des Films „I just didn’t do it“ Einleitung Japanische Mimik wird oft beschrieben als undurchsichtig und schwer zu deu- ten. Aus japanischen Gesichtern lasse sich keine Emotion ablesen. Man könne aus dem Gesichtsausdruck nicht erkennen, was ein Japaner denkt. Solche und ähnliche Aussagen findet man häufig in einleitenden Beschreibungen von Rei- seführern oder bei Erklärungen zu Verhaltensregeln in Japan. Aber treffen diese Aussagen auch heute noch zu? Hat sich nicht mögli- cherweise in der heutigen Zeit in dieser Hinsicht etwas in Japan geändert? Um den Gültigkeitswert der oben genannten Darstellungen zu hinterfragen und auf ihren Wahrheitsgehalt im modernen Japan des 21. Jahrhunderts hin zu überprü- fen, sollen in diesem Artikel häufig beschriebene Phänomene der japanischen nonverbalen Kommunikation – vor allem der japanischen Mimik – vorgestellt und mit aktuellen Filmszenen belegt oder widerlegt werden. Als Untersu- chungsmaterial werden Bilder aus dem preisgekrönten Film „I just didn’t do it“1 2 von Masayuki SUO aus dem Jahr 2006 herangezogen. Auswahl des Films Die Auswahl dieses Filmes hat mehrere Gründe: Zum einen zählen dazu die vielen Preise3, die der Film gewonnen hat, da sie ein Zeichen dafür sind, dass der Film in der japanischen Öffentlichkeit große Wahrnehmung gefunden hat.4 Die Tatsache, dass auch die schauspielerischen Leistungen mit Preisen ausge- 1 Jap. BIOGRAPHY Ryo Kase Ryo Kase was born on November 9, 1974 in Kanagawa, Japan. Shortly after birth his family moved to Washington, United States, where he spent most of his childhood. Kase began his acting career in 2000 and gained his first starring role in Kazuyoshi Kumakiri’s Antenna (2004). He then went on to work with several internationally renowned Japanese film directors, including Takashi Kitano, Hirokazu Koreeda and Kiyoshi Kurosawa. His first appearance in an International film was Clint Eastwood’s Letters from Iwo Jima (2006). He continued to appear in several high-profile international films including Gus Van Sant’s Restless (2011), Abbas Kiarostami’s Like Someone in Love (2012), Hong Sang-soo’s Hill of Freedom (2014), Martin Scorsese’s Silence (2017) and Bel canto (2018).
