Today is the day to thank our mothers and grandmothers for the gift of life and love that we have received through them. This day comes just once each year, but we should be grateful to them every day of the year. As did Mary, the Blessed Mother, for her son Jesus, our own mothers have generously sacrificed and given of themselves for us. I want to thank the Ladies of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, and all of you who donated, for the beautiful roses that adorn the Cathedral altar and sanctuary this week- end. They are a beautiful tribute to our mothers, and a sign of gratitude to God for having blessed us with a wonderful mother. They also remind us that we are offering our prayers and the Sacrifice of the Mass in honor of and in memory of our mothers and grandmothers. We remember the words of St. Monica to her son St. Augustine shortly before she died: “Bury my body wherever you will; let not care of it cause you any concern. One thing only I ask you, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord wherever you may be.” We do so to- day, and will continue to do so, until the day that we are all together in the kingdom of heav- en. Happy Mother’s Day! Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. J.
