I was not Gwinnett Church KRISTEN LEWIS really sure what they meant or how they applied to Co-Founder, The Bowden Law Firm me, I just knew they were important. EagleRanch.org Founder Eddie Staub with Eagle Ranch resident circa 1985. FITNESS pening the door to the gym, Ryland flipped on the light, illuminating O rows of weights and equipment. OVER FEAR He felt at home here. Confident and strong. Before Ryland picked up his first weight, he took a deep breath and looked over at the mirror. The young man staring back at him looked much Ryland · Age 14 · The Grace Home different than the boy who arrived at Eagle Ranch last year. Ryland came to Eagle Ranch struggling with anxiety, panic attacks and de- pression caused by a variety of family issues. He refused to go to school for nearly two years, and most days Ryland would be found alone in his room. “I would stay in my room nonstop and sleep,” said Ryland. “I don’t even remember most of the days. It was a cycle I was stuck in.” Desperate for help, Ryland’s family found Eagle Ranch. The small class size at Eagle Ranch School eased Ryland’s anxiety, and he soon discovered his academic strengths. Counseling helped him identify areas in his life where he struggles, and physical activity has become one way in which Ryland works through his depression. Ryland has experienced a major shift in his life. Fast forward to now, and Ryland looks like a new person – physically and emotionally. Eagle Ranch’s triathlon training is a normal part of Ryland’s days, while working out in the gym and playing basketball are among his favorite activities. From sleeping most of his days away to becoming one of the most physically active kids on campus, Ryland has experienced a major shift in his life. “Life is better now. I’m happier, have less anxiety, and I work out all the time,” said Ryland. “I’ve learned the signs for when my anxiety or depres- sion is coming on and how best to deal with it when it does. My family spends more time together, and I have much better relationships with my siblings.” JACKSON FLETCHER JEFF HOLT DAVID LEVINE MR. & MRS. • Herald of Good TIDINGS
2016 Herald of Good TIDINGS “Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings, lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, ‘Behold your God!’” Isaiah 40:9 Fear of the Past Do you remember February 2015? Do you remember the shoveling? The snow? As I write this, another Nor’easter is predicted. All the anchor people on TV are bringing up February of last year. They say, “Here it is, the start of snow, it will be just like last year. Oh, woe is me, we are doomed let us all fall down on our face and wail in lamentation.” Well, maybe they do not SAY the last part, but from their tone of voice it is strongly implied. Winter is very annoying to a modern American. Winter makes us plan based on weather. If it snows, we might have to can- cel plans. If it snows, school will be cancelled. We will have to make plans to care for the kids. I planned to stay up north for three days in January, but the first night it fell to -13°F and I ran out of propane at 4 a.m. So I decided being home was better then freezing in a trailer or buying a ton of propane. It is good from time to time for weather, a good fill in for God, to change our schedule. When the weather is too bad it is good to ask, “Do we really need to do this?” That is a good question to ask often.

The Boston Red Sox Tuesday, May 18, 2021 * The Boston Globe Red Sox plan to increase roster versatility soon with promotion of Danny Santana Alex Speier Man-for-all-positions Danny Santana could join the Red Sox roster as soon as the current six-game road trip. Santana has hit .364/.423/.682 with two homers, a double, and a steal in six games with High A Greenville and Triple A Worcester. He has played shortstop, second, third, left, and center in those half-dozen contests. “He’s almost there,” manager Alex Cora said. “We’ve been moving him around all over the place. He’s moving well. “This is a guy, it gives us another alternative. Let’s see where it takes us. We feel good about where he’s at, not only physically, but as a hitter and as a player.” Santana, 30, had an April 30 opt-out in his minor league deal, but he and the Red Sox agreed to push that date into May when the start of his season was delayed by a foot infection in spring training. He’ll remain in Worcester at least through Tuesday, but his ability to move all over the field and switch-hit could prove particularly valuable during Boston’s weekend series against Philadelphia, during which National League rules will be in effect (with no designated hitter). In 2019, Santana hit .283/.324/.534 with 28 homers and 21 steals in 130 games for the Rangers. But in 2020, while limited to 15 games by an elbow injury that ultimately required modified Tommy John surgery in September, his numbers slid to .145/.278/.273.
