June 1, 2015, Issue 450 Addressing SaladGate Six pages of in-depth reporting on Women In Country and a post-CRS panel write-up in which Keith Hill urged slashing female- voiced songs made nary a ripple outside the business a few months back. But the consultant’s lettuce-and-tomatoes analogy last week in this space touched off a social and, eventually, major media tidal wave. Go figure. We’ll get to Hill in the next story (right), after female PDs and MDs weigh in with their thoughts on a well-known though still confounding reality. In full disclosure, some of the women we contacted declined to contribute for lack of time or lack of what they felt would be helpful feedback. Some passed because they weren’t comfortable publicly commenting in a “no-win argument.” And some came to us asking to be part of the conversation. Larry Gatlin Washington, DC’S Corey Spotlighting Individual Inductees Leading up to the Oct

September 3 2019, Issue 669 Pick Six: Label Draft 2019 Seven years ago, Country Aircheck’s Fantasy Label Draft began as an entertaining forum for radio pros to chat about artists and make bold predictions for the year to come. For the first six seasons, VP/GM Chuck Aly served as commissioner and declared winners based upon a method that is just questionable enough to have come from the New England Patriots’ camp, “Chuck’s Eyeball Test.” But this is 2019, and all bets are off. No participation trophies here! What good is a game without a winner? And how do you declare a winner without a score? As a new commissioner takes the field, a painstaking analysis was done to determine a fair- yet-competitive points system, which has been ratified by this year’s ownership group – KUPL/Portland’s MoJoe Roberts; KFRG/ Riverside, CA’s Heather Kind Of A Pig Deal: Premiere’s Bobby Bones, coach Chad Morris, Froglear; KRYS/Corpus Valory’s Justin Moore and singer/songwriter Joe Nichols (l-r) at MoJoe Roberts Kay Manley the Arkansas Razorbacks game Saturday (8/31). Power Gold: Concentration Game CMA Sets Trend for Industry

February 10, 2020, Issue 691 Power Gold: Concentration Game This edition of Country Aircheck’s Power Gold is led by eight artists who combine for 46 of the Top 100 most-heard Gold hits. Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line lead the parade with seven songs apiece, followed by Jason Aldean and Zac Brown Band with six each. Rounding out the top PG hit-makers are Kenny Chesney, Thomas Rhett, Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood, all with five hits in the Top 100. One artist – Dierks Bentley – places four songs in this elite group, meaning that nine acts are responsible for 50% of the current Power Gold. More thoughts on that later. Twenty-three songs from 20 artists are new Luke Bryan to the Top 100 since we ran the list last year (CAW 1/14/19). Interestingly, four songs in that group are more than five years old and are actually making a return appearance to the PG 100. They are Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying” (2004), Bentley’s “Free And Easy (Down The Staff Hearted: WNCY/Appleton, WI’s Shotgun Shannon, Luke Road I Go)” (2007), Bryan’s “I See You” (2015) and FGL’s “Sippin’ Reid, Charli McKenzie, Hannah, Dan Stone and PJ (l-r) show On Fire” (2015). off the station’s 23rd annual Y100 Country Cares for St. Jude This Top 100 Power Gold – along with the airplay information in Kids Radiothon total. the previous paragraph – is culled from Mediabase 24/7 and music airplay information from the Country Aircheck/Mediabase reporting panel for the week of January 26-Feb.

Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

Country Superstar Kenny Chesney to Rock the 4Th of July at the 2013 Greenbrier Classic Concert Series

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FEBRUARY 20, 2013 COUNTRY SUPERSTAR KENNY CHESNEY TO ROCK THE 4TH OF JULY AT THE 2013 GREENBRIER CLASSIC CONCERT SERIES [White Sulphur Springs, WV] The Greenbrier, the classic American resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV, has announced that country music superstar Kenny Chesney will top a star-studded musical lineup at The Greenbrier Classic Concert Series, July 1-7, 2013, coinciding with the resort's fourth annual PGA TOUR FedExCup Event, The Greenbrier Classic. Kenny Chesney, a four-time Country Music Association and four-consecutive Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, as well as the fan-voted American Music Awards Favorite Artist, is known for his high-energy concerts that regularly sell out NFL stadiums. Having recorded 19 #1s, including the multiple week chart-toppers "There Goes My Life," "Summertime," "Living in Fast Forward," "You & Tequila" and "When the Sun Goes Down," the man who's sold almost 30 million albums has become the sound of summer, good times and good friends for the 21st century. "This country is an amazing place," says Chesney. "I can see it every night at my shows: all the heart, the passion and the fun I can see out in the crowd. And to be able to spend the 4th of July somewhere as historic as The Greenbrier, that's a pretty incredible place to celebrate our nation's birthday!" "We couldn't be happier to have an American superstar like Kenny Chesney to top the bill at our Greenbrier Classic concert series," says Jim Justice, owner of The Greenbrier.
