George Horney Commercial Director AltaCima is a family-run boutique winery located in Lontué Valley, Province of Curicó in the Maule Region, approximately 200 kilometers south of Santiago. It is property of the married couple of Klaus Schröder and Katharina Hanke who have been married since 1971, and that in year 1974 acquired the ‘Los Peumos’ estate, which currently has grown to be the AltaCima vineyard. At that time they were dreaming that someday they could have their own winery and produce their own wines there, dream that they could become real in year 2000 with the building of a modern winery next to their family home, and that the launching of the AC 6330 Ensamblaje, vintage 2001, finally gave life to Viña AltaCima. In the late 1990s, Felipe Ibáñez and Jorge Gutiérrez, who had been friends since childhood, founded Viña Anakena in Alto Cachapoal, at the foothills of the Andes Mountains with the goal of crafting elegant, innovative, and distinctly New World wines that reflected their origin and Chile’s potential as a producer of world-class fine wines.

  • Chilean Wine from Wikipedia
Chilean wine From Wikipedia History European Vitis vinifera vines were brought to Chile by Spanish conquistadors and missionaries in the 16th century around 1554. During the Spanish rule, vineyards were restricted in production with the stipulation that the Chilean should purchase the bulk of their wines directly from Spain itself. y. The market loss caused the huge surplus of grapes to be made into pisco and aguardiente . In the 18th century, Chile was known mostly for its sweet wines made from the Pais and Muscatel grapes. 20th century Prior to the 1980s, the vast majority of Chilean wine was considered low quality and mostly consumed domestically. As awareness of Chile's favorable growing conditions for viticulture increased so did foreign investment in Chilean wineries. This period saw many technical advances in winemaking as Chile earned a reputation for reasonably priced premium quality wines. Chile began to export extensively, becoming the third leading exporter, after France and Italy , into the United States by the turn of the 21st century. Climate and geography Chile is a long, narrow country that is geographically and climatically dominated by the Andes to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Chile's vineyards are found along an 800-mile stretch of land from Atacama Region to the Bio-Bio Region in the south. The climate is varied with the northern regions being very hot and dry compared to the cooler, wetter regions in the south. In the Valle Central around Santiago , the climate is dry with an average of 38 centimeters of rain and little risk of springtime frost .

  • Experience the Dinner Menu
Each year our culinary team travels the globe in search of unique and bold flavors. This year, our quest led us to Chile, where on the Western edge of South America, we discovered rustic flavors, warm and welcoming people, a compelling landscape and some of the best wines in the world. Chile’s geographic barriers – the Atacama Desert to the north, the Andes Mountains to the east, the Patagonian ice fields to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west – protect its grape-growing valleys from harsh weather, making it literally, a winemaking paradise. For the ninth installment of our Flavors of the World promotion, we created an authentic Chilean menu paired with hand-selected wines that truly reflect our utter enchantment with this region. We have captured the medley of unique climates and incredible terroir that our chefs and culinary team experienced through a cultural immersion of this beautiful country.
