Her name is Whitney something-or-other. Apparently she is responsible for some anti-drug campaign and coin- ing the phrase “crack is whack.” Anyway, so this Whit- ney has set off a firestorm in the past week. A song from her hotly anticipated album leaked the other day. It’s called “Like I Never Left,” and features Akon as a guest artist. Now, this is not a club thumper of a track, but it’s one of the most solid pieces of adult R & B I have heard this summer, aside from Estelle’s work with Kanye West. When Whitney’s new album drops late this year, be ready.

The other big release currently is from Miley Cyrus. She has released a new album that has shades of early Hilary Duff and Avril Lavigne. It’s a bit skimpy on the length, clocking in at about forty minutes, but stand-outs “See You Again,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Goodbye” do well to compensate.

A couple of weeks ago I was comparing The Ting Tings to CSS. With the release of CSS’ new album, that comparison becomes much more obvious. Don- key features all of the lyrical goodness of CSS, most noticeably on “Jager Yoga,” “Give Up” and “Move,” but production-wise it is clos- er to The Ting Tings’ garage rock sound than CSS’ debut. If you like ‘80s-inspired punk- pop, electro, and a dash of Katy Perry, then you should grab a copy of Donkey, post haste!

The summer is drawing to a close very quickly now, so keep a close eye on the column this month. There will definitely be something for everyone.

what do YOU wanna do? Nightspots’ Free Dating Advice The (you’re welcome) Cafe by Michael Hampton 1029 W. 35th St. Chicago, IL 60609 in the Zhou B Art Center So here you are. It’s hump day. You are so bored at work that you have lazily wandered over to ManHunt or some such thing on your computer. You chat with the man of your dreams and you really want to impress him but you don’t have a ton of money.

Be absolutely sure that your new “love” isn’t a vegan and meet him at DeLaCosta at 465 E. Illinois St. On Wednesday nights from 8:00 until closing, they have a deal that is sure to sate your carnivorous nature and your wallet. They roast a whole pig and serve the scrumptious (and free) pork tacos to their bar patrons. While it can be a little disconcerting to watch them actually cut the pig into taco fodder, upon tasting it you really won’t care. ‘TENDER presents LOVE DeLaCosta photo courtesy of delacosta.com

The room is stunning. The bar is hip and hot and the drinks are delicious. Mojitos, Margaritas, and more come in fun barware and though they may be pricey, the free tacos certainly make up for that. Save some room for dessert because they are beautifully presented and out of this world. Wednesdays just got a whole lot better. Chicago’s all-girl rockers Catfight want to make you purr during the upcoming Market Days festival.

Catfight—Julie and Molly on vocals, Lori on drums, Kimi on guitar, Kerri on bass and Amy on keyboards—is an energetic, sassy, all-girl cover band. During a show, you might hear everything from White Stripes to Nancy Sinatra. They are a staple act at numerous LGBT events, and have opened for big acts like Snoop Dogg and Tommy Lee. Check them out at Market Days Sun., Aug. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Belmont Stage. MEEE-OW! for Catfight Nightspots chatted with one of the lead singers and founders of Catfight, Julie Dutchak.

Now this is art www.inkydreadfuls.com The home page of Michael Mararian’s lovely pen and ink drawings of horrible things happening to children, or of children doing horrible things.

I need at least one of these on the walls at the WWWeird Compound. Take the time to browse; some of the best images are buried deeply (so to speak).

This is good because I’ve already covered the brilliance that is You Suck at Photoshop here before. This is just a head’s up that we’re three webisodes into Season 2, so get yer keister over to MyDamnChannel and catch up on Donny (and little Ronnie). OK? 0111010101110101011010101101011010101101010101011101010101110 Knit 1, Pearl 2 weloveholidaysweaters.wehatesheep.com Belated Christmas in July for you here. This site allows you to make tacky Christmas sweaters to send to your frenemies. Choose between crew neck, vest, and cardigan style; then load it up with as much kitschmas decoration as you can stomach. It’s like a very focused Blingee, but without all the seizure-inducing flashing GIFs. I sent my mom a very lovely cardigan of exactly the sort she would wear. I’m fear now she will use it as a template and I’ll have to face it in the real world come December. 0111010101110101011010101101011010101101010101011101010101110 More Pen is jokes www.grupthink.com/topic/22 When registering domain names it’s important to remember that others may not parse the phrase the same way you do.
