TEAM NEWS • Eagles are 18-6 for just the second time in program history (2005-06), the best start under Pat Kelsey • Team is 8-2 in the last 10 games and 12-3 in the last 15 • Moved up two spots in the latest CollegeInsider.com Top 25 Mid-Major Poll to 21st (4th straight week ranked) as of Feb. 6 • The last season they were ranked in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Top 25 was Oct. 25, 2007 in the preseason Top 25 after finishing 2nd in 2006-07 • Had a 7-0 start to January for the first time in the history of the program, but missed a perfect month with the overtime loss to High Point • The last two losses by the Eagles have come in overtime (vs. HPU and at UNCA) • Eagles are 10-3 in road games this season, 11-3 in their last 14 (had 8 straight road wins before loss at Asheville Thursday night) • The 10 road wins this season lare tied with Belmont for most in the country (as of Feb. 10) • Winthrop could potentially finish with a better record on the road than at home, which would be the first time that’s happened since the program’s second year of existence and never happened since the program moved to D1 • The Eagles won eight straight road games for the first time under Kelsey and first time since the end of the 2006-07 season and start of 2007-08 when they won nine straight • Fell won win shy of the program record for consecutive road wins in a single-season (9/1980-81) • Eagles RPI as of Feb. 10 is 84 (2nd best in the Big South) while Gardner-Web has an RPI of 231 • The Eagles this season are 12-2 against opponents with an RPI of 150 or higher (1-2 against Top 50 RPI) • Eagles finished last season 14-1 at home and have won 29 of the last 34 contests at the Winthrop Coliseum • Connected on 17 threes in the win at High Point, which ties the single-game record and it is the second straight season the Eagles have hit 17 in a game • Besides this year and last year’s squad, the 2006-07 team did it against North Greenville and the first Eagle team to hit 17 was the 1999-2000 squad when they did so against UNC Asheville at home • The 17 was a record for the program for threes in a game on the road • The win at St. Louis was the program’s 500th as an NCAA Division I member (Became D1 member in 1985-86 season) • Over the last five seasons Winthrop is 62-24 when attempting 20 or more free throws, 18-3 when attempting 30 or more and 4-0 when attempting 40 or more • During that same time span, Winthrop is 32-34 when it has less than 20 free throw attempts • In the last five seasons Winthrop is 21-4 when making 10 or more threes and attempting 20 or more free throws in same game • In the last 53 victories, the Eagles have won by double-figures in 32 of them (60%) • Winthrop won four non-conference games on the road, which is most since 2006-07 team won 5 • Team tied largest comeback under Pat Kelsey rallying from 14 down to defeat Georgia Southern • Eagles win at Illinois was their first ever over a Big 10 opponent and the third marquee win under Kelsey on the road (at Clemson/at Auburn) • It was the 2nd time under Pat Kelsey that the Eagles rallied from a 10-point deficit with under three minutes to play in regulation to force OT and win • The first time was Feb. 26, 2014 at home against UNC Asheville as the Eagles rallied from 10 points down in the final 1:24 to force OT and win 107- 100 in the first overtime • The win at Manhattan College moved Pat Kelsey into third all by himself in career wins at Winthrop with 78 (now 94) • Winthrop made 36 free throws in the win at Manhattan, which is three shy of the school record set in November of 1989 against St. Francis • The 36 made free throws and 42 free throw attempts are the most in a single-game under Kelsey • The 94 points at Manhattan were the most by an Eagle team in a non-conference road game since Dec. 29, 2013 in a 101-95 loss at Hampton in double-overtime • They are the most points scored in a non-conference game that ended in regulation since a 101-93 win at Central Connecticut State on Jan. 4, 1993 • The Eagles 86 points at FSU were tied for the most ever against an opponent from a Power 5 conference as the Eagles scored 86 in an overtime loss at Georgia in 2011 • Finished the NIT Season Tip-Off with a 2-2 mark and are 4-6 all-time • This is the 10th Anniversary of the 2006-07 Winthrop team that set the school mark for wins in a single-season, went undefeated in league play and captured the programs first ever NCAA Tournament victory (74-64 over 6th-seeded Notre Dame)
