The Strikers will be trying to keep that 2015 form intact Saturday at Minnesota with the season series on the line. On September 26, the Loons pounded the Red & Gold 52 in South Florida. On June 13, the Strikers topped United 32 at NSC Stadium, handing Minnesota its only home loss of 2015. STEFANO TAKES COMMANDING LEAD Stefano’s hat trick Saturday at San Antonio, his second this year, gives him the pole position for the NASL Golden Boot award. For the only time time in 2015, the Strikers fielded the same starting XI in consecutive matches when the side that defeated Jacksonville Armada FC on September 16 suited up against the Ottawa Fury three days later. Fort Lauderdale has used 24 different lineup combinations in 25 NASL contests. FORD RECALL The Fort Lauderdale Strikers announced late last week that goalkeeper Josh Ford was recalled from his loan by Major League Soccer (MLS) club Orlando City City SC. David Meves, back to full fitness after recovering from a fractured jaw suffered in May, joined fellow netminder Lionel Brown in the 18man squad for the team’s last match against San Antonio Scorpions. Ford, 27, started 16 matches for the Strikers during his loan spell, keeping three shutouts and posting a 655 (WTL) record. The Orlando City SC netminder was originally loaned to Fort Lauderdale on May 29, 2015 after longterm injuries to Meves and Joe Nasco. Nasco fractured his leg in two places on April 25 in Ottawa while Meves, who started the year as the Strikers’ firstchoice goalkeeper, sustained his injury in the Strikers’ U.S. Open Cup match at the Charleston Battery on May 27. MR. BROWN Lionel Brown, who grew up in Margate, was pressed into action after Ford’s recall.

  • Great News for the Lockhart Stadium Site! Earlier This Month, the City Commission Took a Major Step Toward Redeveloping This Important Property
Great news for the Lockhart Stadium site! Earlier this month, the City Commission took a major step toward redeveloping this important property. We unanimously voted to enter into an agreement with Miami Beckham United, a group led by soccer legend David Beckham, on a visionary project for the 64- acre site. The Beckham group is ready to invest up to $60 million to transform the property into a “soccer-centric community destination.” Preliminary plans call for the construction of a new state-of-the-art 18,000-seat soccer stadium where Beckham’s Major League Soccer (MLS) team, Inter Miami CF, would play its first two seasons. An interim agreement is currently being negotiated that will allow the Beckham Group to expeditiously move forward with site preparation and demolition so that the stadium can be completed by February 2020 in time for the start of next year’s MLS season. In addition to the stadium, the Lockhart site would serve as Inter Miami’s base of operations, main training center, home to a United Soccer League (USL) farm team, and headquarters for a youth soccer academy that would groom the next generation of elite soccer players. The complex would also include team and administrative offices, locker rooms, weight rooms, classrooms, dining facilities, medical and rehabilitation facilities, and practice fields. The Beckham group would bring millions of dollars in public enhancements to the property including the development of a public park, dog park, playground, public multi-purpose fields, and a walking/jogging/fitness trail. The Commission is also committed to building an additional stadium that our local public schools could use for football and other athletic activities.

  • The Darkness Volume 4, Issue 9 August 3-6, 2016
The Darkness Volume 4, Issue 9 August 3-6, 2016 NOTES FROM A JACKASS HECKLER’S SCOUTING REPORT DARK CLOUDS HYMNAL NOTES FROM A Jackass Two matches in a week, seven matches this month: these certainly aren’t the dog days of summer. Four of the Loons’ matches this month are away from home, where the team has struggled might- ily. And so picking up points at home has to be automatic, particu- larly against a team like Puerto Rico (Miami will be a tougher nut to crack). Puerto Rico, in theory, should be one of the easiest home match- es of the year. One would expect Carl Craig to rest a couple of legs before Saturday’s match. But the NASL being the NASL, something weird could always happen. Miami, on the other hand, has improved greatly with the big money-signings of Poku, Ryan, Steele, Lahoud, and Farfan. These players cost over $2M to sign and Poku alone makes probably half of the Ottawa Fury’s entire wage budget. After their last meeting, Carl Craig said Miami were the best team they’d faced all season. The Puerto Rico match, of course, will also be played on what has to be one of the craziest mid-week soccer days in ages. The US Women will kick off against New Zealand in the Olympics at 5PM, the Loons kick off at Nessie at 7PM, then upwards of 60,000 people will fill US Bank Stadium and watch Chelsea v AC Milan at 8:30PM. The overlap with the International Champions Cup is, to say the least, regretabble.

  • Innovation Village – Stadium Authorization Tuesday, September 18, 2007
Innovation Village – Stadium Authorization Tuesday, September 18, 2007 PROPOSED BOARD ACTION As the next step in developing the previously approved Innovation Village project, the Administration requests that the Board of Trustees adopt a resolution: a) conceptually approving and authorizing the development of an on‐campus steel‐frame football stadium for the Boca Raton campus, with a maximum design and construction cost of $62,000,000 and a projected capacity of up to 30,000 seats; b) authorizing the President to commence formal negotiations with appropriate financial institutions and design and construction professionals, including issuing University Requests for Proposals or Qualifications, as appropriate, to secure the most financially feasible development plan; and c) authorizing the President to take such further actions as are necessary and appropriate to achieve these ends, subject to the Board of Trustees final approval of all financing and construction plans. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Throughout 2006 and 2007, the Administration has developed plans to implement the BOT’s directive to enhance the traditional campus environment on the Boca Raton campus. The ultimate goal is to provide physical and programmatic resources that will support FAU’s efforts to become recognized as a university of first choice. As part of these efforts, the University selected through a Request for Proposal process a development team led by KUD International to create and implement a plan for the Boca Raton campus that would include student residential housing facilities, retail space to serve the university community, and a venue for athletics and cultural events. The RFP required that all financing for the project must be private, with no recourse to University funds.
