National Wine Day On February 18th, come and relax for an hour in good company with the knowledge that we are celebrating a long, long human tradition. Wine has been a staple in human culture since its invention in 7,000 BC. These days, hundreds of types of wine are produced all over the world, giving everyone an endless variety to choose from. Who knew there was such a day, but let’s toast the day with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay at the Social Hour. Hope to see you there. Spring Is Just Around the Corner! Well, our virtual tropical vacation comes to an end this first week of February. We hope that you enjoyed the adventure, the food and drinks, the activities, but most of all had some fun along the way. We want to keep the fun going throughout the month, so be sure to keep an eye out for those special events that will continue to chase away the winter blues. Of course when we think of February, Valentine’s Day comes to mind. But in all Crafts its Cupid and candlelight glory, it is not just for couples anymore. It is now an excellent excuse to shower not only yourself with love, but all the important people in your life. So continue with self-care; we’re just so happy to see how the morning exercise group has grown, the learning and socializing through activities like the choir, crafting, views on the news, and of course, the daily social hour. It’s hard to believe, but we will soon be planting indoor seeds for our outdoor flower pots!

It is a week dedicated to kindness and taking that extra, conscious step to brighten somebody’s day. According to daysoftheyear.com,”Random Acts Of Kindness Day was first created in Denver, Colorado in 1995. Random Acts of Kindness can include just about anything, including something as simple as taking a tray of muffins to work. The idea behind this holiday is to make the world a better place by Random Acts of Kindness spreading a little light around. Lift someone up with your words, compliment them on their appearance; all these things can help to really turn around someone who’s having a bad day.” At Victoria Park, we have had many people come in who have provided us enjoyment and given us something to look forward to. On February 17th, stop by the Activity Room and add your signature to our “Kindness” project. Let’s send a little something to the mailboxes of these special people that will surely brighten their day!

Pancake Tuesday February is just chalked full of theme days and believe it or not, there is a National Pancake Tuesday. Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent — the 40 days leading up to Easter — was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday, Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven” (absolved from their sins). A bell would be rung to call people to confession. Today, annual pancake races and relays take place all over the world and people from all walks of life participate in the event. On Tuesday, February 16th, come out and compete for the crown of Biggest Flipper at Vic Park’s Pancake Flipping Olympics. No matter how skilled or unskilled you are with a frying pan, you Pancake Race are guaranteed an entry. For those of you who would rather just watch others get battered, pancake battered that is, cheering fans are strongly encouraged, too.
