Q E. Answer the following questions:-
Q 1. Name the first mechanical computer.
Ans. The first mechanical computer was Analytical Engine invented by Charles Babbage in 1833.
Q 2. Who is considered as the father of computing?
Ans. Charles Babbage is considered as the father of computing.
Q 3. Which was the first electronical digital computer and who invented it?
Ans. ENIAC was the first general purpose electronic digital computer. It was invented by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert in 1946.
Q 4. Write any three features of fourth Generation computers.
Ans. Three features of fourth Generation computers are:-
1. The technology used in these computers is Microprocessors.
2. The devices used are keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer etc.
3. Special software RDBMS is used for maintaining large database.
Q 5. Write a short note on Abacus.
Ans. Abacus was the first mechanical device invented for doing calculations. It was developed in China. It was made up of a wooden frame consisting of rods, each having beads in them. The frame was divided into two parts – Heaven and Earth.
Heaven and Earth:-
Each Rod in heaven has two beads, and each rod in earth has 5 beads.
It was used for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Q 6. What is Boolean logic? Explain in brief.
Ans. The concept of Boolean logic is the fundamental principle for the design of computer circuits. It was formulated by George Boole. He solved mathematical problems by reducing them to a series of positively – negatively- answered questions and linked them with the binary system. It resulted in 1 for positive answer and 0 for negative answer.
