The Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Plan
ORDINANCE NO. 040826-56 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE AUSTIN TOMORROW COMPREHENSIVE PLAN BY ADOPTING THE CENTRAL AUSTIN COMBINED NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: PARTI. Findings. (A) In 1979, the Cily Council adopted the "Austin Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan." (B) Article X, Section 5 of the City Charter authorizes the City Council to adopt by ordinance additional elements of a comprehensive plan that are necessary or desirable to establish and implement policies for growth, development, and beautification, including neighborhood, community, or area-wide plans. (C) In December 2002, the Central Austin neighborhood was selected to work with the City to complete a neighborhood plan. The Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Plan followed a process first outlined by the Citizens' Planning Committee in 1995, and refined by the Ad Hoc Neighborhood Planning Committee in 1996. The City Council endorsed this approach for neighborhood planning in a 1997 resolution. This process mandated representation of all of the stakeholders in the neighborhood and required active public outreach. The City Council directed the Planning Commission to consider the plan in a 2002 resolution. During the planning process, the Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Planning Team gathered information and solicited public input through the following means: (1.) neighborhood planning team meetings; (2) collection of existing data; (3) neighborhood inventory; (4) neighborhood survey; (5) neighborhood workshops; (6) community-wide meetings; and (7) a neighborhood final survey. Page 1 of 3 (D) The Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Plan recommends action by the Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Planning Team, City staff, and by other agencies to preserve and improve the neighborhood. -

Here’s how we’d recommend you plan your time in Austin if you want to experience all of it. Where To Stay Neighborhoods DOWNTOWN AUSTIN If you’re interested in staying in an Airbnb-type situation, here are the neighborhoods we’d recommend, and what you can expect in each: East Austin The place to stay if you want to feel especially cool, East Austin has a mix of old-school restaurants, buzzy new places, barbecue joints, and bars. This neighborhood puts you in the middle of both daytime and nighttime action, although compared with other neighborhoods (like South Congress/Bouldin Creek), things are a little more spread out over here. South Austin: South Congress/Bouldin Creek The neighborhood around South Congress Avenue and South 1st Street is one of the best-known areas in Austin. It’s a fusion of the old and new: classic bungalows, boutique hotels, local shops, restaurants, live music, and nightlife. Just be aware that South Congress Avenue itself can get a bit chaotic on the weekends, full of tourists and bachelorette parties. -

We have had a great time connecting with many alumni and their families this semester at various events recapped in this newsletter. We were pleased to initiate 34 new members in December. 10/22/18 ASH Brain Health System Redesign Communications Strategy Plan, version 4.0 1 10/22/18 Executive Summary The Design Institute for Health, in collaboration with the Communications Subcommittee, has prepared a Communications Strategy Plan for the preplannning and planning phases of the ASH Brain Health System Redesign. The plan identifies seven communications objectives and two core audience segments: internal and external. The internal audience focuses on project leadership and their networks. The external audience segment prioritizes five groups for these early phases: public officials, law enforcement, professional organizations and associations, mental health justice system, and media. Three core communications strategies are idenitifed to reach the audiences and meet the objectives using modern methodologies. A digital toolbox will serve to align the internal audience. For the external audience, a set of outreach opportunities coupled with an online final report are designed to inform the five key audiences across the large service area. Next steps are to build and launch the components in November and December 2018. The plan includes the current version (4.0) of approved initial messages and FAQ’s which will continue to be updated. 2 10/22/18 Introduction One in five Texans – more than five million people – experience a mental health condition each year, requiring increasing investment by Texas to help to address these conditions and improve the lives of its citizens. As part of that response, the Texas Legislature invested $300 million during the last legislative session for improvements to the state’s psychiatric hospitals. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) contracted with Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin (Dell Med) to lead a collaborative, $15.5 million preplanning and planning phases of redesigning the Austin State Hospital (ASH) that serves 38 counties for adults, 57 counties for adolescents, and 75 counties for children. -
