The festival has grew strongly from last year. This year we held events at Filmhouse, Talbot Rice Gallery, The , and College of Art. Highlights in- cluded a symposium on gender and the moving image, films plus a sousaphone performance at Filmhouse, an evening of African video art and an evening of film and live music.

Talbot Rice Gallery Monday 21 November 2016

A day of creative debate and Talks from Glyn Davis and Nosheen Khwaja discussion exploring queer and feminist Performances from Raju Rage and Miss perspectives on gender in film, video Annabel Sings and cinema, with contributions Screenings from Furen Dai, Victoria Sin, from artists, curators, writers and Onyeka Igwe and Benny Nemerosky Ramsay performers.

Talking mountains, strange characters in masks, and fur bearing trout inhabit the worlds of Edinburgh-based artist Emma Finn’s films. This screening will include the premiere of her new video Diorama, plus her recent films Double Mountain and First a Tent. The opening film was accompanied by a sousaphone performance from Michael Owers. A selection of short films selection from our open call were also screened. Films by Natasha Cantwell, Catherina Cramer, Kevin Gaffney, Michelle Hall and Jennifer Hall. A Q&A followed the screening, led by Louise Milne. There was a specially commissioned text written by Milne. A day of discussion exploring ways protest and expression might be made by disempowered people. Jamie Crewe, a moving image artist, will lead collective readings of texts with topics ranging from responses to sexual harassment, to non-verbal rhetoric in Ancient Greece, to the gendering of sound and voice.

In his first Scottish appearance, the London- based recent recipient of the Paul Hamlyn award, Edward Thomasson, presented a talk about his moving image practice at Edinburgh College of Art. This was followed by the first Scottish screening of a number of his films at Filmhouse. A Q&A followed the screening, led by Noami Pearce. There was a specially commissioned text written by Pearce. In collaboration with Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival we presented Ettrick by French artist filmmaker Jacques Perconte. Made over the course of several visits to the Scottish Borders, the film interrogates a unique heritage: sheep farming, fabrics, the woollen mill tradition and our unique landscapes are all rendered in an impressionistic arc of colour and movement. A selection of films chosen from our open call that use choreography, movement and song to explore romance, melodrama and concepts of femininity and masculinity flow. A Q&A with artists Guy Oliver and Courtney Asztalos followed the screening, led by EAMIF director Adam Castle. There was a specially commissioned text written by Daisy Lafargue. Also featuring films by Christoph Oertli, Pham Ngoc Lan and Scout Stuart. African Lines Conversations in Film and Poetry Event at The Fruitmarket Gallery Friday 25 Novemer 2016

An evening focused on video art by African artists and those of the African diaspora, chosen from the international Videonomad archive. Discussion followed the screening with Christine Bruckbauer of Videonomad, in her first appearance in Scotland. There was also specially commissioned poetry from Tawona Sithole and African music in the bar from DJ Francis Dosoo. Ambient Audiences Event at The Fruitmarket Gallery Tuesday 29 November 2016

The festival closed with an evening of live music and film at the Fruitmarket Gallery. A live electronic musician accompanied a series of films and videos by Scotland-based artists, plus a short video by Polish artist Simon Gerbaud.
