Demographic Armthorpe and Hungerhill secondary planning area is located in the east area of Doncaster. Within this planning area 92% of the children are White British, the other 8% are made up of other nationalities, the largest being polish. In 2015 the planning area had an IMD of 51.35, 2019 data shows IMD has increased to 48.59%. The planning area is higher than the Doncaster average. Birth rates within the planning area have risen in the last 3 years. Within the planning area 8% of primary and 4% of secondary pupils are EAL, the most common first language other than English locally is Polish. There are currently planned housing developments totalling 2,226 dwellings, which will be completed at various times throughout the next 10 years. 1b. Schools The planning area consists of a range of learning provision types from both the school / academy and PVI sector offering a mix of flexible provision. There are 12 schools within the planning area, all of which have converted to academy status. There is a program of capital and S106 investment in Doncaster. Within this planning area three of the 7 schools have accessed capital funding. Pupil absence in the pyramid has slightly reduced within the planning area in the last 12 months in both primary and secondary schools and remain below the Doncaster average. School projections show that although there are particular clusters of shortfalls in primary overall across the pyramid, sufficient places remain available. Secondary data shows significant shortfalls within Hungerhill, however, across the planning area as a there are sufficient places available. 4 1c. Childcare and Early Years Spring 2020 data shows that vacancies remain available in all age groups, however there is a lack of provision for after 6pm and no childcare available on weekends. This could cause difficulty for working parents. Childcare costs are slightly below the Doncaster average however Out of School and Holiday care costs are considerably higher. The take up of 2 year old early education funding borough wide has increased by 6.6% from Autumn 2019 to Autumn 2020. The take up of the 3 and 4 universal provision borough wide has decreased by 4.3% from Autumn 2019 to Autumn 2020. The take up of the 30 hours extended entitlement borough wide has increased by 1.8% from Autumn 2019 to Autumn 2020. There are no identified concerns from families in the Armthorpe area highlighting shortfalls in provision. 1d. SEND There is no specific SEND provision within the planning area, however all provisions have to meet the requirements of the SEN Code of Practice and Disability Discrimination Act requirements. 1e. Key Points There is an expected influx of families to the area over the coming years due to the large number of housing developments. This will impact on place provision both in the school / academy and PVI sector. 5 2. The Locality in Context 2a. Overview The data within this report aims to provide an overview of the Armthorpe pyramid, the available learning provision within the pyramid and identify any pressures or shortfalls which will form part of the borough wide Learning Provision Organisation Strategy.
