Captain (RNLNavy) Ulrich Berrevoets, Program Manager NLMilSatCom Defence Materiel Organisation, MOD The Netherlands Captain Ulrich Berrevoets of the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) was born in Waddinxveen, the Netherlands on 7 April 1959. He started his naval career in 1978 and graduated from the Royal Netherlands Naval College, Den Helder as a Weapons Engineering Officer in 1981. In the first years after graduation, he was appointed to several destroyers and frigates as a Deputy Weapon Engineering Officer (DWEO). In 1985, he was appointed to the weapon and communication systems section of the Royal Navy Materiel Command and worked as project team member tasked with the air defence frigate program. Subsequently after a short period on the HNLMS van Kinsbergen, he was promoted Lieutenant Commander in 1991 and appointed Weapon Engineering Officer (WEO) on board the HNLMS Piet Heyn. During this assignment his ship was active with embargo operations (IFOR) off the coast of Yugoslavia. From 1995 until 1998 he worked at the Naval Staff, Department of Operational Requirements. Here he was involved in TBMD-developments and specific weapons engineering requirements. From 1998 to 1999, he attended the Naval Staff Course at the Defence College in Rijswijk. In the summer of 1999, he was promoted to the rank of commander and appointed deputy head of the Naval Staff School within the Defence College. He fulfilled this role until the end of 2002. During this period, he was involved with the integration of the three separate (Army, Navy and Air Force) Staff Courses From early 2003 until the summer of 2005, he was appointed WEO of the Air Defence and Command Frigate HNLMS De Ruyter and was involved in de ships’ maiden trials. In the summer of 2005 until September 2009, he was appointed as staff officer to the Director of Projects with the newly established Defence Materiel Organisation. He assisted with combining the three separate (Army, Navy, Air Force) materiel commands, and more specifically the projects branch, to the current situation. In September 2009, he was appointed Program Manager of the Netherlands Military Satellite Communications Project and promoted to the rank of Captain. In July 2011 he was also appointed project manager of the SMART-L EWC radar for the Air Defence and Command Frigates. Captain Berrevoets is married to Angela, they have one daughter and two sons and live in Berkel and Rodenrijs, close to Rotterdam. He enjoys playing field hockey and travelling with his family..
