The Urquhart family owned Gordon & MacPhail business, which files its accounts as Speymalt Whisky Distributors, saw its pre-tax profits dip to £2.6 million in the year to February, from £3m in the prior 12 months. However, the latest annual profit, revealed in figures published today, was comfortably ahead of the £2.36m figure for the year to February 2011. (Herald 26/11/2013) Soft drinks group Britvic today reported an 18.4 per cent rise in annual profits, helped by this summer’s heatwave. The maker of Fruit Shoot and Tango drinks, which pulled out of a planned merger with rival AG Barr earlier this year, posted an underlying pre-tax profit of £137.9 million for the year to 29 September, on revenues 4.4 per cent higher at £1.3 billion. (Scotsman 26/11/2013) Arran Brewery managing director Gerald Michaluk will today formally launch his plans to raise up to £4 million through crowdfunding to upgrade his current site and open two further breweries on the mainland. -

Since our last report in 2000 the RAE results have been published and our achievements reflect an increase in both the quality of our research outputs and also the diversity and range of research undertaken. In RAE 2001 we returned 43% of all our staff as research active which was amongst the highest in the new university sector across the UK. We were also pleased that four of our Research Areas submitted (Speech and Language Sciences, Social Sciences in Health, Physical Therapy and Drama) achieved an improved grade from the last RAE resulting in an overall 27% increase in income compared with our previous allocation. We are increasingly developing our strategies for the commercialisation of research and this is reflected in a significant increase in our CPD activities, the growth of our TCS programmes and successful spin out companies. Research and commercial activities cover a wide variety from highly focused consultancy for external organisations, including leading UK corporate businesses, the NHS, charities and government departments, to definitive academic studies which have won staff international reputations through their publications and presentations at conferences in the UK and abroad. -

Scottish BLM Mural Trail
Black Lives Matter – Scottish Mural Trail Giant new artwork – Justice for Sheku Bayoh – at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall joins the rapidly expanding Mural Trail as Scotland’s artists and arts organisations combine their voices to support Black Lives Matter Scotland’s Black Lives Matter Mural Trail is expanding rapidly. The addition this week of 5 new artworks at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall takes the total to 24 (across Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness) with over a dozen more planned in the coming weeks, in Stirling and Dundee, as well as Glasgow and Edinburgh. P The latest additions are by Kirkcaldy artist Abigail Mills aka Abz including an impressive 5.5 meter x 6.5 meter print on the Usher Hall’s Glass Wing , and a further 4 images next to Lothian Road. Striking, colourful and thought provoking, Abz’s work reflects her regular job as a R tattoo artist, but goes far beyond that, reflecting her Scottish/Jamaican heritage and self identifcation as a “queer artist”. E The Glass Wing artwork – Justice for Sheku Bayoh - is inspired by the death in 2015, in police custody in Kirkcaldy, of Sheku Bayoh (now the subject of a recently announced public enquiry). S Aamer Anwar, lawyer for the Bayoh family: “The family of Sheku Bayoh & his partner Collette are deeply grateful to the artist for this mural which encapsulates for them their long struggle for justice & truth. It’s time that those who fly the banner of #BlackLivesMatter realised that there are S also many George Floyds in the UK and their families need your support” Abz’s work joins The Neon Requiem’s 3 portraits of female inspirations in his life – The Healer, The Nurturer and the Teacher, on display at the Lyceum Theatre, text contributions by Annie George at The Traverse Theatre, and a further 6 posters featuring words by some of Scotland’s leading BAME musicians including Emili Sande, Young Fathers and Findlay Quaye, making a R remarkable cluster of creative activity by BAME artists/writers, at Edinburgh’s “theatre hub”. -

They range from prominent and highly distinctive buildings which give character and expression to our streetscapes, through to near-hidden structures which nonetheless frequently conceal wonderfully decorative interiors. Each has its own history, its own personality, its own triumphs and tragedies. -

Appendix D - F0139866 Pantomime in Scotland The Pantomime in Scotland project’s planned outputs were: - briefing paper (pantomime census/economic impact study) - book (co-authored) - book (co-edited) - DVD - exhibition and catalogue (touring) - popular history book - website and oral history dataset The following outputs have been completed: - briefing paper – findings of economic impact study. - composition/score – - newly copied and prepared score of pantomime music from 1869 correctly identified by research project; - newly copied and prepared scores of selections of pantomime music from the 1920s and 1930s newly discovered by the research project. - conferences/seminars – - four papers (Exeter x 2; Glasgow; Sheffield). - consultancy work for Ambassador Theatre Group (King’s Theatre Glasgow) in respect of a Heritage Lottery Fund bid. - DVD – - The DVD was planned to run around 80 to 90 minutes but the project’s discovery and identification of new materials facilitated a longer running time of 165 minutes. - Other unplanned elements of this output include: specially recorded archive music; new specially commissioned piano scores; and, specially recorded voice-over commentary. - Further unplanned elements of this output were a short archive sound film and a short archive sound film advertisement. Both are very rare and were previously only available on film and accessible only within archive conditions. Both were digitised and brought to publication as an unplanned part of the project. - exhibition and education programme – - a touring exhibition – with interactive elements – was presented in venues in the east and north of Scotland in 2008/2009 - ie King's Theatre Edinburgh, Perth Theatre and Concert Hall, Byre Theatre St Andrews, His Majesty's Theatre Aberdeen, Eden Court Theatre Inverness – and in venues in the west of Scotland in 2009/2010 – ie Motherwell Theatre, King's Theatre Glasgow, MacRobert Centre Stirling. -

Sticky carpet. Check. Calls of two little ducks 22. Check. Puns about balls falling. Check. That was until we went and started to research what the Bingo was really like (as opposed to our ideas of what we thought it was). It’s fast, furious, stressful and it’s a bloody good night out. It made us think, wouldn’t it be good to try and write a show that shared those same characteristics.
