Structure, Governance and Management
The Charity was constituted by Trust Deed on 4 February 1985 and registered with the Charity Commission under Charity Number 291535. Originally named The Charles Wall Charitable Trust it was changed to The Wall Trust in November 1990.
There are no employees and the Secretary and Trustees carry out the administration. Nevertheless there are two signatories required for every cheque as part of the internal controls. THE WALL TRUST

Risk Management
At the time of the production of the financial accounts, the Trustees monitor the major risk inherent in the policy of awarding Scholarships for the duration of a Scholar's course, usually three years, whilst mostly receiving Incoming Resources on an annual basis. This risk is largely mitigated by setting aside in a Designated Scholarship Reserve amounts required to complete a Scholar's course, and the retention of funds to meet this requirement.
Trustee Selection Methods
The President, Vice Presidents and Trustees are selected upon the recommendation from Trustees who have served during the year.
The Trustees continued their consideration of succession. They intend to keep this mattter under review on a continuing basis.
Public Benefit, Charitable Objectives, Aims and Policy
Insetting our objectives and planning our activities in accordance with our Mission Statement below, the Trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit.
Without the assistance of the Trust some exceptionally talented performing artists might not have had the opportunity to graduate and might not be seen by the public on stage, on concert platforms, in films and on television.
Reporting Serious Incidents
The Trustees can confirm that there have been no 'serious incidents' to report in the year to 31 July 2015 as defined by the Charity Commission in their Guidance for Trustees issued in June 2010.
MISSION STATEMENT
To enable exceptionally talented students of the performing arts to realise their potential.
The general objects of the charity, as set out in the Trust Deed, have been applied by the Trustees, in order to support excellence in the Performing Arts. This is achieved primarily by granting Wall Scholarships to exceptionally talented students, who have inadequate funds to further their training, at the following selected Establishments with whom the Trust has Scholarship Agreements:

Music Royal Academy of Music, London Royal College of Music, London Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester The Purcell School, Hertfordshire
Payments are made direct to the various Establishments and all applications have to come through them. In addition, the Trustees may make grants directly to Wall Scholars, only in exceptional circumstances, which are considered on an individual basis, if funds permit.
Each of these Establishments nominates students on two criteria —outstanding talent and financial need. The students are then auditioned and interviewed by the Trustees and, if awarded a Wall Scholarship, they are monitored and are given a financial commitment for the duration of their course, providing they continue to progress.
Great importance is attached by the Trustees to the monitoring of Scholars throughout their training and whenever possible after graduation.
The Trust has an equal Opportunities Policy for all Scholars irrespective of their gender, marital status, race, ethnic and national origin, nationality, sexuality, religion, and social class. THE WALL TRUST

NEWS OF SOME WALL SCHOLARS
The year 2014/15 has been another good year for the current and previous Wall Scholars. The training that they receive from the Establishments with whom we have Scholarship Agreements, is exceptionally demanding and intensive, but our Scholars are all enthusiastic and highly motivated. We shall continue to monitor their progress, as this is an important aspect of our support.
There were five scholars who graduated at the end of this year, Natasha Bradshaw (London Studio Centre), Caolan McCarthy and Sam Frencham (RADA)and Marcus Romaneli and Jessica Healy (Central School of Ballet). We wish them every success for their professional careers. Violinist Emre Engin, is at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York, with a Scholarship.
The year 2014/15 has been another demanding and intensive year for our Wall Scholars; a list of those who received our support are indicated on page 3 of this report. Many of those have told us that the award of a Wall Scholarship has been vital in enabling them to concentrate on perfecting their art; knowing that they are guaranteed that their support will continue during the whole of their course, providing they continue to progress.
Alumni
Bertie Carvel was cast as Nick Clegg in the Channel 4 Television programme "Coalition". Alexander Campbell and Tristan Dyer, an up and coming young American, who was one of four favourite dancers chosen by Choreographer, Liam Scarlett, for his ballet, "The Age of Anxiety", based on WH Auden's Prize winning poem created for The Royal Ballet, which opened at Covent Garden in November 2014.
Danny Mays was in "World at War" and Luke Thompson was in the first episode of "The Club" on Television. O-T Fagbenle played the lead in the recent first episode of the BBC series, "The Interceptor'.
There were four Wall Scholars dancing with The Royal Ballet, Alexander Campbell and Valentino Zucchetti (First Soloists), Tristan Dyer (Soloist) and Sander Blommaert(1st Artist). At the Scottish Ballet, Kyle Murray danced in Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake and Tom Edwards in a new work for the Scottish Ballet, "Motion of Displacement'.
Clara Andrada has continued this year giving flute Master classes at the Royal College of Music and in Europe. She is one of the leading flute players of her generation. As solo flute player she has played with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and The Chamber Orchestra of Europe amongst others. THE WALL TRUST

Trustees' Review 2014/15
This year was a landmark year, for it was 30 years since the Trust was formed on 4 February 1985. During that time we have supported 232 students of the Performing Arts during their training, usually of three years Many have reached the top of their chosen profession. This has been achieved with the help of those who have supported our work over the years, for which we are most grateful, and with the invaluable help of the Trustees who have attended 160 meetings since the formation and have participated in the monitoring of our Scholars.
Sadly we have to record the death of the Richard Attenborough, President of RADA. A Service of Thanksgiving for the Work of Lord Attenborough Kt. CBE, was held in March 2015 at Westminster Abbey, which Charles Wall attended, representing The Wall Trust. Also Caolan McCarthy, a Wall Scholar at RADA, led one of the prayers.
It has recently been announced that our President, Sir Kenneth Branagh, is to be appointed as the President of RADA.
The Trustees will continue to keep under review their consideration of management succession.
Financial Review
Voluntary Income was £35,250 (2013/14: £21,000). Scholarships awarded were £3,500 greater. Also Investment Income was greater by some £1,000. Total funds carried forward were £220,566 (2013/14: £212,528). Market values of Investments at 31 July 2015 were £181.365.
Since it is a requirement that Investments should be included in the Balance Sheet at their Market Value at the year end, we have added a further £ 5,532 to the Development Reserve being the Gains on Investments held at the end of the year. The Reserve now stands at £ 42,728 being the amount of the value of investments above their cost.
Outlook
We shall continue to expand our support for exceptionally talented students of the performing arts. Our policy of undertaking to support our scholars for the whole of their training should not be affected by any political or other uncertainties, as we set aside funds to meet these obligations at the time of their awards. We shall also continue to do all we can to obtain funding to meet an ever increasing demand for scholarships.
We shall continue to accept only applications for support through the Establishments with whom we have Scholarship Agreements, as they are able to advise the Trustees on the most needy and talented students. We shall also continue our policy of not providing funds for living or other expenses and awards will continue to be paid direct to the Establishments for our Scholars training and not direct to the students.
Future Developments
The Trustees will endeavour to raise whatever funds they can to support Students recommended by the Establishments with whom we have scholarship agreements and will promote the successful Bursary Scheme. They will also continue to monitor existing Wall Scholars during their training, which continues to be an important aspect of our support. THE WALL TRUST

Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities
The Trustees have elected to prepare accounts for each financial period which show a true and fair view of the charity's financial activities during the period and of its financial position at the end of that period.
In preparing accounts giving a true and fair view the Trustees will follow best practice by:
selecting suitable accounting policies and applying them consistently; making judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; • stating whether applicable account standards and statements of recommended practice have been followed, subject to any material departures being disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and • preparing the accounts on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Act 1993. They are also responsible for safeguarding the charity's assets and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and breaches of law and regulations.
