It is celebrated at shrines along the banks of 12 major sacred rivers in India, in the form of ancestor worship, spiritual discourses, devotional music and cultural programmes. That said, this world is endowed with 35 million water bodies like rivers and lakes of religious importance. One attains the bliss of Divine Grace by taking bath in these waters of sanctity. When the planet Jupiter transcends from one house to another house every year, that event is celebrated as Pushkar Festival. This festival is celebrated every year in different rivers of India depending upon which house the Lord Guru (Jupiter) transcends to. While all the rivers are the creation of Lord Brahma, our Puranas and Upanishads recognize certain rivers as Holy and are to be revered. 3 These celebrated rivers are given the status as “PUSHKARs”. For 12 days after Jupiter’s transcending shift to a New House in the Rasi Chart (Planetary shift) to a new house, Pushkar Bhagavan, who resides in Lord Brahma’s Kamandalam, will be present in those Pushkars (the Holy Rivers) and bless us. During those Holy Times, all Devathas, Rishis, Munis and even the Thiri-Murthis are believed to be visiting these rivers and enjoy their Holy- dips. That’s why; if ONE takes a Holy dip in those rivers during the Pushkar festivals that are deemed to be more pious than performing the Holy- dips in those 35 million waterbodies in other days. The BOONs and the DOSHAs casted by the ensuing Guru Peyarchi on November 20, 2021 around 11.30 pm on Saturday for everybody as per their Ruling House in their Horoscope as deduced by Jothida Rathna Sri M.S. Also, if you perform poojas like Gowri Pooja, Ganga Pooja, Brihaspati Pooja, and Couples pooja, then that will open-up multitude of good fortune in one’s life. Donating during the Pushkar is much more powerful than those Dhan performed on other ordinary days. Donating to Samaradhan, Annadhan and Vastradhan to Veda Pundits and the needy is most noble and pious. With the Blessings of Sri Kanchi Swamigals, it has been decided to conduct the this year’s Pushkar festival at River (Chandrabhaga) Bhima which is considered auspicious and equivalent to River Sindhu as it is not possible to do the Pushkar at River Sindhu this time. The period of transcendence of Guru from CAPRICORN to AQUARIUS is on November 21th, 2021, Sunday and the 12 days from that day till December 2, 2021, Thursday, this period will be celebrated as Aadhi Pushkar at the designated Holy Pushkar River – BHIMA BHIMA RIVER: Bhima river is one of the largest rivers in India and originates in the hills of Bhimashankar (about 100 kms from Pune). Bhima river flows through various states of South India such as Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana before finally merging into the Krishna River. There are many temples situated on the banks of Bhima river, including the famous Pandharpur temple from Solapur district of Maharashtra. Bhima river is also known as 'ChandraBhaga' in Pandharpur because of its moon like shape. LEGENDS OF BHIMA RIVER: As per legends, Bhima river has been quoted in Mahabharata at many places: Bhima River is mentioned in Mahabharata verse (VI.10.21) & Bhimarathi River is mentioned in Mahabharata verse (III.86.3) Bhima Parva, Mahabharata/Book VI Chapter 10 describes geography and provinces of Bharatavarsha. Bhima River is mentioned in Mahabharata (VI.10.21).[2].... of Purvabhirama, and Vira (Nira), and Bhima, and Oghavati; of Palashini (Pashashini), and Papahara, and Mahendra, and Patalavati 5 This Bhima River is also called Punya Damini Bhima. In South India, people give regards to the Bhima River the same way as they do to Ganga. According to the legends, once there was a demon named Tripursura. He was troubling all the devas, so they approached Lord Shiva for help. Seeing their plight, Shiva told them not to worry. He came near BhimaShankar to kill the asura. Lord fought with the asura keeping his one foot on earth and another on Nandiswara and killed the demon. During the fight, lord shiva was profusely sweating and that sweat took the form of a river. At that time, he also found that the Ayodhya’s saintly King Bhimak was under penance at that place. King Bhimak begged for the blessings of Lord Shankar so that a pious river might originate from Bhimashankar from the sweat. He gave the desired blessings and accordingly, a river originated from his sweat. On the name of King Bhimak, this river was called as Bhima River. Spiritual Significance and Origin of Bhima River is marked by Bhimashankar Temple. The temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (self-emerged) Shiva temples in the country, making it one of the important pilgrimages for Hindus. These twelve Jyotirlingas are considered to the very sacred. A devotee who pays a visit to any of these places and worship, gets all his wishes fulfilled. CHANDRABHAGA RIVER: Sri Pandurangan temple is located besides the banks of River Chandrabhaga. Bhima river which originates from Bhimashankar flows through Tuljapur then she goes through Nira Narasingpur where she meets Nira river and further she goes towards Pandarpur where she takes half-moon shape and hence dearly called as Chandrabhaga. All the devotees and saints glorify the Chandrabhaga as their elder sister and believe that she is the one who takes all of us to Lord Vitthala. 6 CHANDRABHAGHA LEGENDS: According to one legend, due to Maharishi Durvasa’s curse Krishna’s wife Jambhavathi gave birth to son ‘Saamban’ who was born with the deadly disease Leprosy. To overcome the curse, he was told to do Surya pooja to Sun god near Vitthala’s temple. Saamban built a Son Temple and did worship for 12000 years and got cured of it. During his worship, he brought Bhima river near Pandarpur temple. The tributary of Bhima river where it enters Pandarpur and till it joins Bhima again will look like a three- phase moon and since Saamban came from Moon Dynasty this river is called Chandrabhaga at this Stalam. Significance of River Chandrabhaga: Once the river that started as Bhima vigorously flowed towards Pandarpur to take darshan of Vitthala. When the residents of Pandarpur saw the fierce river, they went and worshiped the Kshetrapal. The Bhairavnath, Kshetrapal went to Bhima river and begged him to stop the speed and requested it to flow in a calm way. On hearing this Bhima started flowing calmingly and slowly near the Kshetram as Chandrabhaga. Bhairavnath then blessed Chandrabhaga will be known as Papa Vinashini here. It is widely believed that a holy dip in the Chandrabhaga River washes away all your sins and blesses the devotees with prosperity. Importance of Pushkaram at Chandrabhaga, Pandarpur: ❖ During Sant Janabai’s time, Krishna gave darshan to her, as half as Sri Krishna and other half as Sri Panduranga together like Ardhanadeeswarar and transformed Pandarpur as Brindavan and Chandrabhaga as river Yamuna. Due to this leela, this Kshetram is considered equivalent to Gaya and Mathura. ❖ Chandrabhaga became a Punya Tirtam because of Krishna as Lord Vitthala and anyone with Leprosy or any other deadly diseases will get their cure if they take bath in this river with Shraddha and Bakthi.
