Gator Gazette February 17, 2019 In This Issue Greetings! From the Principal's Desk February is such a fun month. You never know what the News from the PHHS PTSA weather is going to do and what that means to the school schedule. A number of after school events and meetings, News from PHHS as well as BCPS activities have been affected this month News from BCPS and PHHS by inclement weather. As of today, we officially have 31 Community days of winter to go, and yes, after the beautiful weather PHHS PTSA Business Partners we had on Friday, I've started counting! While like my kids I enjoy the occasional snow day, I much prefer the milder This Week at PHHS weather of spring. Next Week at PHHS Here is a warm thought and reminder for students and parents: The Orioles started spring training last week, and Quick Links soon our many Gator spring sports teams will begin training PHHS PTSA for their seasons. If your child is planning to play baseball, Perry Hall HS softball, lacrosse, tennis or one of the other spring sports PHHS Alumni Association offered at Perry Hall High, please remember to register PHHS Athletic Boosters them in advance and turn in their physicals. Information Baltimore County Public and a link to register your child can be found in this week's Schools newsletter. Spring training for our Perry Hall athletes begins soon! Another reminder: The spring musical, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, makes its debut in 12 days. Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2. Tickets are available for advance purchase online, and there is a rare opportunity to meet the cast, satisfy a chicken craving, and raise some money for the Theatre Boosters this week. The group is holding a Chick-fil-A Spirit Night on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Perry Hall location. Please remember to take the flyer or mention you're there for the Spirit Night. Have you bought your tickets yet for the Athletic Boosters bull roast? I ran into the board on Friday night and they were busy finalizing details for this year's fundraiser. Tables and tickets are still available for the Sunday, March 10, event. The bull roast runs from 1 to 5 p.m. at Martins East. Tickets are $45 in advance and include an open premium bar and fantastic food. There also will be money wheels, raffles, a silent auction and Chinese auctions. Funds raised benefit all of our student athletes! Enjoy the Presidents' Day holiday on Monday, and another day off from school. PTSA Golden Gator awards for honor roll students will go home this week. As I write this, it's too early to predict, but I hear snow is again a possibility for mid-week. Think warm thoughts! Have a good week! Click here for more information, or to download a schedule of dates for the school year. __________________________________ NEW First After Prom Committee Meeting: Monday, March 11 The PTSA's After Prom Committee will meet for the first time on Monday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. If you are a parent of a senior or any Perry Hall High School student and would like to be involved, please join us. The first meeting will be an overview of what's already planned for the party on May 18, and how you can help. The meeting will run approximately an hour. If you are unable to attend, but would still like to be involved, please send an e-mail to [email protected]. Donations are very important in the planning of this party. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun alternative to other post-prom activities, and to plan a party that will appeal to the vast majority of our senior students. Funds specifically donated to our After Prom Party help us to do that. It is never too early to make a donation. Send in your check at anytime. Just make it payable to "Perry Hall High School PTSA" and put "After Prom" on the memo line, or use the the provided link to donate using PayPal. More information about the party will be forthcoming in future issues of the Gazette. _______________________________ Next Driver's Ed Class Begins on March 11 Greg's Driving School is a prominent supporter of Perry Hall High School PTSA. Greg's Driving School classes offered at Perry Hall High School cost $360 and are held from 2:45 to 6 p.m. at the High School throughout the year. For every participant, Greg's donates $50 to our PTSA. Students that are PHHS PTSA members are automatically entered to win a $50 Amazon gift card. In addition, every student enrolled in a Greg's Driving School class at Perry Hall High School receives a free cell phone slip case from the PTSA. This pouch-style case eliminates sounds made by texts or incoming calls and helps to reduce distracted driving, a primary cause of accidents especially among young drivers. For a complete schedule of classes offered by Greg's Driving School at Perry Hall, and a link to register, visit the Driver's Ed page on our website. The next class begins on Monday, March 11, and concludes on March 22. Perry Hall High School PTSA thanks Greg's Driving School. This business donates thousands of dollars to our organization each year. __________________________________ PTSA Scholarship Application Now Available The PHHS PTSA scholarship application is now available for download from the PTSA website. This year's essay question is "What is the biggest obstacle you've encountered in your life, and how did you overcome it and let it shape you into the person that you are today?" Application materials can be submitted anytime between now and the April 1 deadline, either electronically via an e-mail to [email protected] or as a hard copy dropped off to the PTSA mailbox in the school office. Only seniors who joined the PTSA by January 25, 2019, are eligible for consideration. If you have questions about the application, or if you are a PTSA member with a child who is a freshman, sophomore or junior and would like to participate on the committee, please e-mail our committee chair, Patty Warns. __________________________________ Special Thanks! Our organization survives and thrives due to the generosity and support of others. We count on our parents, the students and staff of the school, and the strong support of our alumni, but we would be remiss if we did not also thank those businesses that support us on an ongoing basis throughout the year. The contributions made to our organization both financially and through in-kind gifts means a lot to us and our success and for that reason PHHS PTSA acknowledges the following businesses: The Avenue at White Marsh: Each summer The Avenue provides our PTSA with the opportunity to rent chairs at their Shop & Eat to the Beat concert series on Fridays and Saturday nights. This is a wonderful opportunity for our PTSA to be in the community, and put us on the path to reaching our financial goals for the year.

(Lloyd Fox / Baltimore Sun file photo) By Margarita Cambest Towson Times SEPTEMBER 19, 2017, 3:15 PM altimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz announced Tuesday that he would include planning money for two new high schools in his proposed fiscal year 2019 budget, which he will release next year. The schools would be expected to serve the Towson area and the central-northeast area of the county, where parents have for years asked officials to build new high schools to eliminate overcrowding and failing facilities. Parents of Dulaney High School in Timonium had previously lobbied for a new school, but Kamenetz had instead proposed a renovation. 1 of 3 8/27/2018, 12:14 PM Kamenetz to propose planning money for two new high schools in FY19... http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-county/towson/p... In March, after complaints from the school community that it would not be sufficient to address problems, the county school board voted down the contract to renovate Dulaney High. The renovation was part of the county's $1.3 billion dollar Schools for Our Future program, a multiyear plan to modernize older buildings. Other renovation projects in that program included Woodlawn and Patapsco high schools, which are underway; and Lansdowne High, which the board said would need to be rebid.
