  • Hall Pass – Bios for Prelim Notes
HALL PASS Best buds Rick and Fred (Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis) have both been married for many years. When they begin to show signs of restlessness at home, their wives (Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate) take a bold approach to revitalize their marriages: they grant the guys a “hall pass,” one week of freedom to do whatever they want. No questions asked. At first, it sounds like a dream come true for Rick and Fred, but they quickly discover that their expectations of the single life—and themselves—are completely and hilariously out of sync with reality. “Hall Pass,” a new comedy from the Farrelly brothers (“There’s Something About Mary,” “Dumb and Dumber”), stars Owen Wilson (“Wedding Crashers,” “Marley & Me”) as Rick, and Jason Sudeikis (“What Happens in Vegas,” “Going the Distance”) as Fred. Jenna Fischer (TV’s “The Office”) stars as Rick’s wife, Maggie; Richard Jenkins (“Step Brothers”) as the guys’ old friend, perpetual bachelor Coakley; and Christina Applegate (“Going the Distance,” TV’s “Samantha Who?”) as Fred’s wife, Grace. “Hall Pass” is directed and produced by Peter Farrelly & Bobby Farrelly, from a screenplay by Pete Jones & Peter Farrelly & Kevin Barnett & Bobby Farrelly, story by Pete Jones. Re-teaming with the Farrellys are producer Bradley Thomas and executive producer Marc S. Fischer, who collaborated with the Farrellys on their hit comedies “There’s Something About Mary” and “Shallow Hall.” Also serving as executive producers are Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener and Merideth Finn, with co-producers Mark Charpentier and John Rickard. The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Matthew F.

  • “I Want to Contribute to the Creation of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum”
“I want to contribute to the creation of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum” Charles B. Wessler, American producer of, among others “Green Book” – a comedy drama directed by Peter Farrelly, which was awarded three Oscars and three Golden Globes, supports the creation of a permanent exhibition of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum. Especially for us, he answered a few questions. In 1994, Wessler jumped in at the deep end of production in Hollywood with the comedy “Dumb and Dumber” by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, with whom he established a long-term cooperation. It was with the Farrely Brothers that he produced “There’s Something About Mary” with Cameron Diaz, “Me, Myself & Irene” with Jim Carrey, “Shallow Hal” with Gwyneth Paltrow, “Stuck on You” with Matt Damon, “The Heartbreak Kid” with Ben Stiller, and “Hall Pass” with Owen Wilson. His latest production, “Green Book” with Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, brought him critical acclaim and the reputation of the Oscar producer. This movie is set in the realities of the American South – apart from the scenes taking place in New York – in the early 1960s, focuses on the relationship of a black pianist and his white chauffeur, a former club bouncer. The movie is against stereotypical thinking and intolerance, and for acceptance of one’s roots. Charles B. Wessler family’s roots go back to eastern and western Europe. His grandparents from the mother’s and father’s side came to the United States in the years 1908 to 1918. “One grandmother comes from Belarus, the second one from Germany. Grandfather Jack came from Poland and the second grandfather from Austria,” says the producer.

MA MAJOR RESEARCH PAPER REPRESENTATIONS OF FEMALE OBESITY IN CONTEMPORARY CINEMA KATIE DRUMMOND .., The Major Research Paper is submitted in partial Fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Arts Joint Program in Communication and Culture Ryerson University - York University Toronto, Ontario, Canada Tuesday, April 29, 2008 Table of Contents Prologue 3 -16 Chapter I: Playing Fat 18-32 Chapter II: Cultural Inscriptions - Fatness in African American Communities 34-47 Chapter III: Independent Films - A Suitable Alternative? 49-64 Epilogue 66-68 Works Cited 69-71 2 Prologue · Prologue The earliest known depiction of a hwnan figure is a small carving of a voluptuous woman, known as the Venus ofWillendorf. Dating over 25,000 years old, this 4 'l2 inch statuette marks the beginning of a long history of representations of women. Created in the harsh conditions of the Ice Age, in which an abundance of food and fat bodies were scarce, the Venus of Willendorf was revered for its exaggerated breasts, hips, and buttocks as a symbol of fertility and fatness. Considering the reigning anti-fat attitude in contemporary North American culture, it is difficult to imagine fat and fat individuals occupying a privileged or sacred status in society. The fact that communities from various geographical locations and historical eras have regarded fatness in this way provides supporting evidence for the theory that fat-as-bad is indeed a cultural construction (LeBesco, 2004). For example, in many poverty-stricken South Pacific nations, extra fat on one's body symbolizes "wealth and power" (BBC.co.uk, 2001); this is quite a contrast to North American stereotype of the fat, lazy slob (LeBesco, 2004).

TWO ESSAYS IN BUSINESS FORECASTING AND DECISION-MAKING Carmina Caringal Clarke Doctor of Philosophy, 2007 Australian Graduate School of Management University of New South Wales THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES Thesis/Dissertation Sheet Surname or Family name: CLARKE First name: CARMINA CARINGAL Other name/s: Abbreviation for degree as given in the University calendar: PH.D. School: AUSTRALIAN GRADUATE SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT Faculty: AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL OF BUSINESS Title: TWO ESSAYS IN BUSINESS FORECASTING AND DECISION-MAKING Abstract 350 words maximum: (PLEASE TYPE) This dissertation is two essays in business decision-making. The first essay is motivated by recent field evidence suggesting significant reliance on conventional techniques (e.g. NPV and DCF) without assessment of the decision profile - its degree of uncertainty, ambiguity and knowledge distribution. However, without knowing the decision profile, the chosen decision might not be appropriate given the decision situation. Therefore, essay 1 develops a multi-faceted conceptualization of the decision profile and provides a prescriptive model for choosing appraisal methods based on this profile. Specifically, it prescribes the limited use of conventional methods to low ambiguity and uncertainty situations and using decision trees, real options, scenario planning and case-based methods as the level of uncertainty increases. In high ambiguity situations, however, the only viable approaches are case-based methods which do not have perfect information assumption that conventional alternative methods do. Case-based methods have been supported theoretically in case-based decisions and case-based reasoning literature but lags in its use in business decision-making. Possible reasons for this include a lack of concrete applications and developments of major concepts such as its case memory, similarity and prediction functions.
