INTRODUCCION SE1il:OR PRESIDENTE, SE1il:ORES ACADEMICOS: Hace muchos años escuchaba yo en Santander, en la univer­ sitaria Península de la Magdalena, unas palabras, que después se han impreso, del profesor Laín Entralgo. Ante unos jóvenes nos explicaba, de acuerdo con Schleiermacher, las diferencias que existían entre la Universidad, que él ampliaba a los Centros de Investigaciones; la Escuela Especial, y la Academia. En la primera había vivido yo, como estudiante, en la recién nacida Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Económicas. Terminado mi exa­ men de licenciatura había iniciado en ella la docencia como ayu­ dante de clases prácticas. Además, cuando escuchaba al profesor Laín, trabajaba también como ayudante, y en la Facultad de Derecho, a las órdenes del llorado profesor Olariaga. En el círcu• lo al que yo pertenecía ---el que editó sucesivamente las revistas Alfére'l., La Hora y Alcalá-, el problema de la Universidad se sentía con mucha hondura. Uno de nuestros ensayos de cabecera era Misión de la Universidad, del maestro Ortega. Por otro lado, me iniciaba en la investigación científica como becario del Instituto de Economía «Sancho de Mancada», que dirigía por aquel entonces el profesor Zumalacárregui; seguía seminarios en el Instituto de Estudios Políticos, en los que nos azuzaba la mente el profesor Valentín Andrés Alvarez, y mi maes­ tro, el profesor Torres, me daba consejos sobre el trabajo cien­ tífico en el grupo que dirigía en el Instituto de Cultura Hispá­ nica.

    PREMIOS PRÍNCIPE DE ASTURIAS Comunicación y Humanidades Ciencias Sociales Coincidiendo con la entrega de los Premios Príncipe de Asturias 2007, el próximo día 26 de octubre, se presenta esta bibliografía que recoge, para las categorías de Comunicación y Humanidades y de Ciencias Sociales, las obras de y sobre los galardonados que conserva este Centro: al fondo ya existente, se han añadido nuevas adquisiciones realizadas durante este año. Esta Guía del Lector da un repaso a los nombres de los premiados a lo largo de veintiséis años, dentro de las categorías a las que se ha hecho referencia, permitiendo al lector conocer las publicaciones de mayor interés. Cuando el premio ha recaído sobre una institución, se han incluído obras que ofrecen un acercamiento a través de su historia, su organización y sus funciones. La labor creadora o de investigación de los premiados ha supuesto una aportación relevante a la cultura universal en los ámbitos mencionados. Estos premios, que se concedieron por primera vez en 1981, han ido creciendo cada año en importancia hasta llegar a convertirse en un referente cultural, científico y social de envergadura, manteniendo los valores de objetividad, tanto en la selección de candidatos como en la concesión de los premios. Su objetivo es “galardonar la labor científica, técnica, cultural, social y humana realizada por personas, equipos de trabajo o instituciones en el ámbito internacional”. La bibliografía se organiza en dos categorías, Comunicación y Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales, las primeras que presenta en su página web la Fundación Príncipe de Asturias. Dentro de cada categoría, la información se distribuye cronológicamente en orden inverso - arrancando desde 2007 hasta alcanzar el año 1981- y, dentro de cada año, se ha ordenado alfabéticamente por el nombre de los premiados cuando el premio es compartido.

Hacen sus entradas y sus salidas, y cada uno representa en su tiempo muchas partes, siendo los actos de la obra siete edades...» Este texto metafórico lo he utilizado en una de mis obras porque se vale del ciclo vital individual para delimitar siete edades, desde la infancia a la decrepitud, y ahora me serviré de él para comentar el curso de mi vida en el desempeño del rol de profesor, que me parece el único relevante para los que estamos aquí reunidos. El propio Shakespeare menciona también algunos papeles sociales —enamorado, soldado y juez— para identificar la dimensión total o parcial que en cada experiencia personal subyace a la gradación de las edades. I argue that both Francoism and a long tradition of Basque radical nationalism are important in understanding ETA’s emergence. In this tradition Spain and the Spaniards (regardless of their political regime) are blamed for the continuous decline of the Basque nation. In order for the Basque nation to return to its glorious Golden Age, it is argued, the Basques need to expel the Spaniards using whatever means are necessary. I maintain that Basque radical nationalism precedes ETA by at least 60 years. It was the founder of Basque nationalism, Sabino Arana, who looked nostalgically at the Basque past and first proposed a racially pure Basque nation with his motto ‘Euzkadi is the land of the Basques’.

A los académicos participantes en la Conferencia ESHET MEXICO: La primera reunión de historiadores del pensamiento económico de cuatro continentes en América es la que hoy se inicia en México, promovida por el acuerdo de las Asam- bleas de la European Society for the History of Economic Thougth (ESHET) celebra- das en las Conferencias de ESHET en Praga en mayo de 2008 y en Amsterdam en mayo de 2010. Desde que la propuesta fue hecha con el respaldo del Rector de la UNAM, se concibió como un proyecto en el que se involucraría a las instituciones académicas mexicanas que tienen interés en la historia del pensamiento económico, por ello se logró integrar un Comité Asesor que ha conjuntado esfuerzos bajo el liderazgo de la Facultad de Economía para lograr el registro de 128 ponencias, que presentaron más de 150 aca- démicos.
