Llibres a Google Play. Based on U. Llegeix la ressenya completa. Ronald E. When the Cold War ended, the world let out a collective sigh of relief as the fear of nuclear confrontation Return to Armageddon superpowers appeared to vanish overnight. As we approach the new millennium, however, the proliferation of nuclear weapons to ever more belligerent countries and factions raises alarming new Return to Armageddon about the threat of nuclear war. In Return to Armageddon, Ronald Powaski assesses the dangers that beset us as we enter an increasingly unstable political world. But Powaski shows that there is Return to Armageddon less reason for optimism than we may like to think. Continued U. Senate has failed to approve the CTBT. Perhaps even more ominously, the effort to prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons by nonweapon states is threatened by Return to Armageddon tests conducted by India and Pakistan. The nuclear club is growing and its most recent members are increasingly hostile. Indeed, it is becoming ever more difficult to keep track of the expertise and material needed to build nuclear weapons, which almost certainly will find their way into terrorist hands. Accessible, authoritative, and provocative, Return to Armageddon provides both a comprehensive account of the arms control process and Return to Armageddon startling reappraisal of the nuclear threat that refuses to go away. He is an adjunct professor of history at Cleveland State University. He lives in Euclid, Ohio. Return to Armageddon – Grovel

I assume there's a common artistic influence there, who you and I are too young to have encountered. I loved Jesus' work. And I love the fact that AD gave older artists like him and Massimo Return to Armageddon and Ron Smith the chance to let their imaginations run riot. Also I think the fact that they had artists like Jesus who could be relied on to turn in consistently excellent work at speed allowed them to indulge younger talents like Mike McMahon, Kevin O'Neill, Brett Ewins etc who were clearly learning on the job. By the way, I think a lot of his 'smudge' effects are from creative use of Letratone. Saturday, April 9, No. Return to Armageddon appearances: I hope you have your copy of the collection pre-ordered! I'd never even heard of this series before, but a combination or Alan Moore, John Wagner and Jesus Redondo is not to be dismissed lightly. Creator Credits :. Return to Armageddon. Mind Wars. Other art Return to Armageddon :. MACH One. Project Overkill. The Mind of Wolfie Smith. Nemesis the Warlock. Return to Armageddon Trooper. Missionary Man. A lot of Future Shocks and one-offs, and, most recently, a 3riller. Notable character creations :. The Lakam twins from Mind Wars would be notable if the Return to Armageddon ever got a reprint hint hint. Notable characteristics :. Often eschews panel borders, without sacrificing clarity reading order well, not usuallybut making it bastard hard to sort out panel-specific scans. He also likes to do this thing with a smudgy effect that probably has a techincal illustration name but I don;t know it. It's pretty cool, and can convey multiple ideas:. On Jesus:. Anyway, his art came with Return to Armageddon expectations of living up to a big name! It has never let me Return to Armageddon. I suspect Redondo had been working in comics a fair while, as his style has been pretty set across his work for Tharg and a certain Star Lord; no, not that one. Something about the way he drew flared trousers, and the general swingin' vibe of Probe as he coolly dispatches foes with generous helpings of violence. Or just stands around in his pants looking sexy. It'd all be perfectly at home in a Bond movie. A Daniel Craig one, even. It was just a different beast — a standalone epic that came to an Return to Armageddon within the pages of the comic, so couldn't have transferred to AD even if anyone had wanted it to. It was Return to Armageddon streets ahead of two other self-contained 'epics' that ran concurrently in AD: Colony Earth and Death Planet. Redondo himself was a big part of that. Clearly a seasoned pro, he seemed to have it all worked out, from character design, to spaceship design, to alien worlds and space battles. In classic space opera fashion, physics be damned. There are sharp-banking spaceships, laser beams and explosive engines all Return to Armageddon the shop. And somehow, it was all played straight and serious - but it really worked. Then Redondo immediately proved he could do Earth-bound stories to, being tapped to take over from on Project Overkilland then from Return to Armageddon again via series creator Vanyo on the second big Wolfie Smith serial to run in AD. Overkill provided relatively contemporary thrills a la M. Wolfie Smith was Return to Armageddon more varied assignment. I've said Return to Armageddon before on this blog, but I do think a trick was missed not further exploring a character who is less and anti-hero, more an anti- villain. I mean, he has the charm and superpowers of a horrible person, but somehow gets caught up in the sort of scrapes that mean he ends up doing good, rather than evil. But Wolfie IS evil. I know because Jesus Redondo showed me. It's the best of s gooey horror in comic-strip Return to Armageddon. The dude would do an epic Freddy Krueger, I'm telling you. I can't now if they ever explained why cheap villain Kramer had the face he did. Words by Tom Tully. By this time, Redondo was a regular fixture in the Prog, burning brightly for the next few years. But really, in my mind, this is the time when Redondo became king of the Future Shockthe Time Twisterand the one-off. His work one these tales, like contemporary Mike White, was never show-y off-y, but always suited the story. Such stories often don't afford the space to develop characters beyond a basic minimum, but Redondo can deliver the inquisitive professor, the bewildered bystander, the naughty boy Return to Armageddon grows up to be Genghis Khan. And of course that's where the man has been seen most recently, delivering a Terror Tale and a full-colour 3rillercomplete with dead men as protagonists. He's lost none of his charm, nor his love of drawing the folds in clothing. Return to Armageddon to the epics, where characters really do Return to Armageddon room to grow. He's all muscles and snarls and no compromises. But his Return to Armageddon himself, sadly, doesn't ever quite capture the gnarliness of the menace of Return to Armageddon version. Return to Armageddon is the real deal, of course, the Return to Armageddon story for which Redondo will likely always be most remembered. It's been collected into a proper trade fairly recently, which is about the only evidence I have that plenty of other people besides me love this story. But before it gets there, you get a changing cast of characters, including surly space pirates and a sort of benevolent robot who have all stepped right out of Star Wars. Who meet a hideously disfigured man in constant pain, who can't die — something entirely unlike Star Wars, but very ADish. Then a bit of planet hopping, a , a demon, and, as promised in the title, some actual apocalyptic armageddon action! Return to Armageddon wonder if today's readership would have the patience to indulge another such epic story, but if they did, I'd love to see Return to Armageddon have a crack at it. More on Jesus Redondo :. His own website Return to Armageddon. A recent-ish career-spanning interview on Down the Tubes. Personal favourites :. The Mind of Wolfie Smith for the art specifically. Foul Up; The Pioneer; Sunburn. I only had to read Progs when I did it; I'm fairly daunted by the thought of tackling it again for a full 2, progs! Especially now that I know how much better a lot of later strips read in the collected editions. If it hadn't been for the Return to Armageddon bits by Pat Mills and Kev O'Neill, I'm not convinced this was an obvious candidate for future greatness. Jock Savage April 10, at AM. Or is that the other way around? Words by Return to Armageddon Hebden. Sure, the reading order is obvious enough, but it's odd without panels and borders. What does it mean, Scott McCloud? Words by Jack Adrian. Smudges to show a psyhic breaking through to many minds at once. Smudges to show people trapped in a timeloop. Smudges to show Return to Armageddon thick swarms of flies. Words by Pat Mills. Master of the flying kick Context by Nick Allen. Look at those sad eyes. He's not aiming for camp. Exhibit A: this is Wolfie daydreaming about what he wants out of life. Context by Tom Tully. Exhibit B: Wolfie takes out some perfectly innocent security guards. Sure, he's being forced to do it, but look at the fiery delight in his eyes! There's that cross-hatching effect Redondo brings out for the more serious, emotional panels. Review – Return to Armageddon | Everything Comes Back To AD

Here is an nice collection of one of the weirder strips to appear in the early years Return to Armageddon AD. Written by Malcolm Shaw with superlative art by Jesus Redondo and lettered throughout by Bill Nuttall, it also has a very cool title font on each of the 34 episodes that makes me wonder if it was designed by the late Jan Sheapherd. The plot is fiendishly complicated with a deep space vessel encountering Return to Armageddon form of wormhole which transports it to a planet covered in frozen bodies, some of which look like horned devils. Along the way Amtrak will pick up a one-armed robot sidekick called Seeker, a good looking human companion named Eve and, of course, a magic sword. It moves on in a frenetic fashion packing miles of story into each five page episode and proving that you can tell a sprawling space opera epic in Return to Armageddon limited format. Some of the stuff is quite terrifying, proving that kids do love a good scare in the safe environments of their comics, books and films. There is one colour two page spread where this Return to Armageddon made the centre pages for one prog and the colour adds very little, in fact I prefer the monochrome pages. Of course the art does suffer in places from being shrunk down from Prog size to fit a trade paperback which makes some of the panel layouts look a little dark and cluttered. In terms of extras we get the four colour covers that Return To Armageddon appeared on at the back of Return to Armageddon book, Return to Armageddon usual one paragraph creator bios, but no introduction. I know the margins must be tight on these Rebellion trades but could they Return to Armageddon find room for a one page introduction? Minor gripes aside this is a lovely trade collection of one of those bizarre gems from the halcyon days of AD. Five star stuff. You are commenting using your WordPress.
