AWARDS CEREMONY FOLLOWING
WHAT IS FOUNDER’S DAY… AND WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE IT A SUCCESS?
Founder’s Day is a special time to celebrate PTA. We enjoy conversation and a meal together. We honor those people who personify the objective and mission of PTA: people who VOLUNTEER their time and efforts for all children.
Remember that the PTA honors VOLUNTEERS. Anyone who receives payment for daytime or after school activities does not necessarily deserve an award.
In order for all honorees to be recognized in an orderly fashion at the dinner, several things must happen in a timely manner:
1. Review the entire awards packet with your PTA Board. 2. Decide within the unit who will be honored. 3. Break up the work – don’t let “President’s Report” be a deceiving phrase. 4. Mark dates on calendars. a. Eligibility Requirements November 15 (see items 5c and 5f) b. Awards postmarked: February 1, 2017. c. Founder’s Day Dinner: February 5. Be sure you meet eligibility requirements: a. Adhere to the purposes and basic policies of the PTA. b. Have bylaws approved every three years according to the procedures of the Indiana PTA. c. Annual audit completed, 990 and NP-20 submitted by November 15. d. List of current officers submitted to Indiana PTA. e. Two Area Council Meetings: one in the Fall and the January meeting. f. Council Assessments paid ($190). 6. Notify principals and teachers early if you are asking them for essays. 7. READ THE DIRECTIONS. And then read them again. 8. Use Founder’s Day as a celebration for your Unit. Invite the Board and key players. 9. Award forms must be postmarked by February 1, 2017. 10. Winter is coming. Plan accordingly. 11. Awards should be mailed to: PTA Awards Committee 905 Criterion Way Evansville, IN 47711 11. Have fun!

Indiana PTA Lifetime Achievement Award
Located at: http://indianapta.wpengine.com/units/awards/
Click on “Lifetime Achievement Form”
Purpose: To recognize an outstanding member of your unit for their lengthy dedication to your PTA. This should be a volunteer (unpaid) who is a parent, teacher, administrator or community member. This award is granted from the State of Indiana and typically presented at either (1) the Evansville Area Council Founder’s Day dinner or (2) a recognition event hosted by individual units.
1. Mail the application and $50.00 check to the State PTA office in early December. 2. Write the “why” statement. This should be 100 words or less for an IN PTA Lifetime Achievement award; 250 or less for a National. This statement does not have to be submitted to State, however is usually read during the dinner to let those present know why you are presenting this award. 3. Frame the certificate after it arrives. 4. Tape the pin to the back of the certificate to keep the two together. 5. Invite the recipient to the dinner. Units usually try to keep identities of their winners secret. Whether or not your unit buys an honoree’s ticket depends on your budget. 6. Order a corsage or boutonniere if this is your unit’s tradition and if budget allows. 7. Bring the certificate and “why” statement to the Founder’s Day dinner for presentation. 8. Come and enjoy the Founder’s Day dinner knowing that you did your part to make the evening very special! At the designated time, your unit will present your award.
