Some Albums To Keep Your Toes Warm This October Pt 2. Bittles‘ Magazine | Record Review I was arm-wrestling a tiger the other day (my editor told me I had to make the beginning of my articles more exciting) when I suddenly realised that I had no time for such frivolity as I had some great albums to review. Quickly admitting defeat, I retreated to my listening studio (bedroom) and immersed myself in some of the fantastic records that will be hitting the record store shelves this October. By JOHN BITTLES We have the UK house of Huxley, the indie bleakness of Grouper, the disco diva-isms of Munk, the techno bass of Distal and so much more. But really, in a month when there is, finally, a new album by Glaswegian duo Slam, there is only one place we can begin. Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle have long been established as bona fide legends of the house and techno scene! Their record label Soma is over 400 releases old, their DJ sets at clubs like The Sub Club and The Arches in Glasgow are discussed with an air of awed reverence, and, as Slam, the duo have released some of the finest electronic music known to man. And now, in the year 2014 they give us their first album in seven years with the deep and moody brilliance of Reverse Proceed. The cinematic ambience of Tokyo Subway, Visual Capture and the title track open proceedings and are the perfect introduction to the deliciously deep sounds to come. In fact it’s not until the techno futurism of Synchronicity that we even get our very first sign of a beat.

Finally, I would like to thank the support and contributions of my peers in the Economic and Social History Senior Thesis class. 4 Abstract The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the impact of city policy changes and the processes of gentrification on 1980s nightlife subculture in New York City. What are important to this work are the contributions and influence of nightlife subculture to greater New York City history through fashion, music, and art. I intend to prove that, in combination with the city’s gradual revanchism of neighborhood properties, the self-destructive nature of this after-hours sector has led to its own demise.

D’Andrea’s is an insightful study of expressive indi- vidualism manifested in and through key cosmopolitan sites. This book is an 5 invaluable contribution to the anthropology/sociology of contemporary culture, 6 and presents required reading for students and scholars of new spiritualities, 7 techno-dance culture and globalization. 8 Graham St John, Research Fellow, 9 School of American Research, New Mexico 20111 1 D'Andrea breaks new ground in the scholarship on both globalization and the shaping of subjectivities. And he does so spectacularly, both through his focus 2 on neomadic cultures and a novel theorization. This is a deeply erudite book 3 and it is a lot of fun. 4 Saskia Sassen, Ralph Lewis Professor of Sociology 5 at the University of Chicago, and Centennial Visiting Professor 6 at the London School of Economics. 7 8 Global Nomads is a unique introduction to the globalization of countercultures, 9 a topic largely unknown in and outside academia. April 8, 2021 For Immediate Release Museum Of Love Announces New Album, Life Of Mammals, Out July 9th On Skint Records & Shares “Cluttered World” Video Photo Credit: Kasia Walicka-Maimone "’Cluttered World’ is slinky, jazzy, glam cabaret, that's also dark n' smoky, like somewhere Nick Cave might hang out." - Brooklyn Vegan Museum Of Love - the New York-based duo of Pat Mahoney and Dennis McNany - announces its new album, Life Of Mammals, out July 9th on Skint Records, and shares the video for their new single, “Cluttered World.” Life Of Mammals is a dizzying, hypnotic swirl of chaotic art rock and irresistible, metronomic dance music. You’re pulled along by celestial melody, brain churning oscillations and the low end wobble of bass. From a distance, those sounds might seem familiar - a glimmer of Roxy here, a thump of both DAF and DFA there, the occasional Fripp-esque clatter mixed with the pulse and echo of Studio One - yet up close, they take on unique new forms, thanks in part to Mahoney’s croon and dream state lyrics. Life Of Mammals is exactly the kind of surrealist escape route we need right now. Mahoney, founder and drummer of all-conquering NYC band LCD Soundsystem, and McNany, known for his production work as Jee Day, formed Museum Of Love in 2013 and released their lauded self-titled debut the following year. Longtime friends, the two both come from an art background originally - Mahoney is a sculptor, while Dennis paints, and there’s a strong visual element in the Museum Of Love sound.

Ta je odkrývána díky re-definici subkultury pomocí post- subkulturních teorií, zejména pak Maffesoliho konceptem neotribalismu a teorie dočasné autonomní zóny Hakima Beye. Práce se snaţí odkrýt obě úrovně politizace freetekno subkultury v českém prostředí pomocí analýzy dostupných dokumentů týkajících se teknivalů CzechTek, CzaroTek a pouličního festivalu DIY Karneval. The politicization is perceived in two dimensions. The first dimension is the explicit politicization, which could be represented as the active political participation.
