Hierna volgde nog een reeks verschikkelijke platen, die overigens ook steeds slechter verkochte en hem deed vervreemden van zijn eigen publiek. Gelukkig begon hij dat jaren laten zelf in te zien en heeft hij sinds midden jaren 90 de draad weer opgepakt met het doen waar hij echt goed in is. Er is reeds veel gezegd en geschreven over Let's Dance; te glad, overgeproduceerd, te commercieel gericht, slappe nummers, etc.. Er is werkelijk niets wat ik aan kan dragen wat al niet eerder gezegd of geschreven is over Let's Dance. En toch ga ik het proberen! De bijdrage van Stevie Ray Vaughen is werkelijk super. Ik droom er nog dagelijks van hoe het was geworden als hij mee had gedaan tijdens de Serious Moonlight World Tour. Wat mij betreft is hij het scherpe randje in deze, overall, zo gladde productie. Een productie die overigens wel af is; dat is aan Nile Rodgers Chic wel toevertrouwd. Je moet er wel van houden. Voor de beginnende Bowie fan een risicoloze cd om mee te starten kijk of je de remaster van EMI op de kop kunt tikken; hier staat Under Pressure als bonus track op! Ondanks alle negatieve opmerkingen over Let's Dance wil ik wel even aantekenen dat het voor Bowie wel de ideale springplank is geweest naar het grote publiek. Dit heeft Bowie aanzienlijk meer naamsbekendheid en waardering opgebracht. Het heeft hem deuren geopend naar nieuwe markten en andere mogelijkheden. Velen vergeten dat Bowie toendertijd vooral groot was bij de ware die hard fans en de meer onafhankelijke muziek liefhebber. Jaren tachtig popmuziek van David Bowie.
