Enter the Water Come to the Table 71st Annual Pepperdine Bible Lectures Enter the Water Come to the Table PEPPERDINE BIBLE LECTURES April 29-May 2, 2014 pepperdine.edu/biblelectures MikeMessage fromCope Welcome, friends, to the 71st Pepperdine Bible Lectures! We’re so thankful you’re here for this time D of fellowship, worship, study, and renewal. As most of you know, we give you a chance to soak in as much as you want: from early-morning devotionals and breakfast meetings to late-night events and pie with AWP. In addition to the regular schedule of classes through the day, this year we’ve added excursions: trips to the incredible Getty Villa led by Pepperdine New Testament professor Ron Cox, and a hike that focuses on photographing God’s beautiful creation led by one of our biology professors, Steve Davis. We’ll be focused on baptism and communion this year with our theme “Enter the Water, Come to the Table.” The seven keynote messages and several of the classes will help us understand better the essence of these gifts of God. They will deepen our knowledge of the gospel, discipleship, the church, mission, and eschatology. But our hope is that we grow deeper in ways beyond just our understanding! Let us, for example, grow deeper in our relationships as we share our stories of baptism and communion with one another. Find time with a few friends— old or brand new!—to invite memories: “Tell us about your baptism”; “tell us about a few of your favorite times of communion.” We look forward to sharing communion together on Friday night at tables around campus. Plus, we have people ready to assist anyone during the week who’d like to be baptized in the Pepperdine pool or the Pacific Ocean. (Warning: we can control the heat of the former better than we can the latter!) May we use these few days surrounded by the beauty of Malibu to celebrate God’s faithful love, to reconnect to dear friends, to recommit to the new life into which we were raised, and to envision again entering our communities as those filled with the mission of Christ.
