The types of speeches include commencement addresses, presidential inaugural speeches, talks given for Pepperdine's Great Issues series, speeches given to Pepperdine Associates, faculty retreat talks, and works written by students that won speech contests. Scope and Content The collection consists mainly of printed transcripts of speeches and addresses given at Pepperdine University. Also included are draft copies and research materials gathered during the writing process, as well as some VHS and DVD recordings of particular speeches. The types of speeches in the collection include commencement addresses, presidential inaugural speeches, talks given for Pepperdine's Great Issues series, speeches given to Pepperdine Associates, faculty retreat talks, and works written by students that won speech contests. Materials in the collection range from 1937 to 2005. Arrangement Materials in the collection are arranged alphabetically by speaker. Related Archival Materials Contextual information and additional copies of speeches may be found in other collections related to specific events at Pepperdine, including the Pepperdine University Commencement records, Pepperdine University Inaugurations and Convocations collection, Pepperdine University Faculty records and Pepperdine University Great Issues records. Many speakers also have collections that may contain related materials, including the Rindge and Adamson Family papers, the William S. Banowksy papers, the Andrew Benton papers, the David Davenport papers, the George Pepperdine family papers, the Blanche Ebert and Frank R. Seaver papers, the Howard A. White papers and the M. Angelou, Maya 1993 Fall Physical Description: (1 VHS tape) Scope and Content Maya Angelou is introduced through a performance by Pepperdine Students. Angelou sings and introduces her own works. Angelou requests to skip recitation of her poems, and instead, returns on camera to receive gifts from the student body before reading a poem written by Pepperdine student Jason Presley.
