De Peiza delivered this sentiment during The Sunday Roast of the DLP, titled Estimates 2021-2022: DLP Responds. She made the argument that diversification of an economy is an exercise that is best undertaken when the economy is booming, and noted that there had not been a boom for a long time. She also acknowledged that in the last three years of the DLP administration in 2015, 2016 and 2017, there was growth but it was negligible. De Peiza explained that since January 2020, the DLP had framed a programme which was designed to enfranchise GETTING A TREAT!: With restrictions being in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Barbadian shoppers and Barbadians. I referred to the thinking of the master and servant syndrome, I told the meeting that WICB was a good master. I made it clear that whatever assistance we may seek from the WICB we intend to earn it, so that we are not seen as ‘beggars’ if you may. That programmes, achievements, frank and meaningful deliberations will be brought to the fore. In response, the chairman, who was quite articulate and effective in his management of the meeting, he said among other things, that the master and servant era has been viewed as colonial. TE NUPEPA O TE TAIRAWHITI WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 2020 HOME-DELIVERED $1.90, RETAIL $2.20 by Aaron van Delden “TALK to us — that’s the whole point,” said a protester at this morning’s extraordinary meeting of Gisborne district councillors as they voted unanimously to revoke their earlier decision to instal models of James Cook’s Endeavour ship in Gisborne city without community consultation. DECISION Tina Ngata’s comment followed operations committee chairman Larry Foster’s closing remarks over what the appropriate imagery for the district might be, suggesting the possibility of a Maori and Pakeha embracing with a hongi and earning a rebuke from Ms Ngata. In revoking their decision, all 13 councillors and Mayor Rehette Stoltz agreed to instead “seek widespread community feedback and to consult REVOKED specifically with Tairawhiti iwi about the future location for the Endeavour replicas”. But councillor Meredith Akuhata-Brown n Councillors vote 14-0 in favour of rescinding called on her colleagues to go a step further. “The right thing to do is to stop saying Endeavour models reinstatement decision we will consult with tangata whenua — we will partner, we will be on the same page, we will work together, we will understand, because we’re just peeling the scab off a n Agree to ‘seek widespread community feedback’ sore that’s deep, a wound.” Her comments were widely applauded by members of the public who watched the and to ‘consult with Tairawhiti iwi’ meeting unfold after gathering outside the council building from 7.30am to protest the earlier decision with placards, one reading “No More Racist Monuments”.

  • In the Early Years, All Matters Pertaining to Cricket Umpiring
THE WEST INDIES CRICKET UMPIRES’ASSOCIATION 1962 – 2012 – VIVIAN JOHNSON & JOHNNY GAYLE INTRODUCTION In the early years, all matters pertaining to cricket umpiring throughout the Caribbean were dealt with by the governing body of West Indies Cricket, the West Indies Cricket Board of Control through it various territorial affiliates. As the years passed, it became evident that a need existed for the establishment of a body whereby affairs of an umpiring nature would be properly addressed, which would ensure the development of umpiring, create a harmonious relationship among all participants of the game, promote the dignity of the office of umpiring, and generally to advocate in the interest of umpires. In order to accomplish these objectives, various territorial associations were established throughout the Caribbean. In 1946, Jamaica took the initiative with the blessing of the Jamaica Cricket Board of Control and formed the Jamaica Cricket Umpires’ Association, under the Presidency of Norman A.D. Tappin – J.P., Chartered Accountant, making the organization the second oldest umpiring Association in the world, surpassed only by the Victoria Association in Australia. This was followed by the formation of the Barbados Association in the early 1950’s, the Guyana Association and the Trinidad & Tobago Umpires Council in 1953. Interestingly, the British to whom the world is indebted for the invention of such a noble game did not form its Association of Cricket Umpires until March 1953. But there was no regional Association in existence in the West Indies which would bond the various organizations and their members together, and so broaden their input in the overall development of cricket as it relates to umpiring.
