4 TO BE READ BY: TRAIN COMPANY RETAIL STAFF U ON-TRAIN STAFF 2 TRAVEL AGENTS * ASSOCIATION of TRAIN OPERATING COMPANIES * ADULT & CHILD GROUPSAVE IN LONDON & SOUTH EAST AREA (L&SE) AND ON FIRST GREAT WESTERN

Includes accompanying "Kids for £1" offers FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE NATIONAL FARES MANUALS AND RETAIL MANUAL PART TWO. SEE ***NEW FEATURE*** ITEMS: PARTICIPATING TRAIN COMPANIES FROM 12 JUNE 2005: , , First Great Western, First Great Western Link, 'one' (Great Eastern area only), , South Eastern Trains, , Southern, , Wagn

INTRODUCTION What is Adult & Child GroupSave? ***NEW FEATURE*** Adult & Child GroupSave now offers parties consisting of any appropriate combination of adults and children the opportunity to travel for the price two adults would normally pay. • Adult & Child GroupSave is now available in the L&SE area and on First Great Western for any combination of adult and child use where appropriate (see Retail Manual Part Two for details) • Children are therefore permitted to travel on an adult ticket as part of the GroupSave3 or GroupSave4 combinations

What is the aim of Adult & Child GroupSave? Research in the L&SE area and on First Great Western amongst non-rail users shows that many car-sized groups of three or four could use the train. Nearly half said children were part of the three or four combination going by car and they could be persuaded to go by train if kids were included in the core GroupSave offer.

What size is a qualifying Adult & Child GroupSave party? A qualifying group is three or four people travelling together. In the L&SE area and on First Great Western, the group may consist of any appropriate combination of adults and children:

GroupSave3* 3 adults, 1 adult and 2 children, 2 adults and 1 child.

GroupSave4* 4 adults, 1 adult and 3 children, 2 adults and 2 children, 3 adults and 1 child. Note: In some cases better value deals may be available with a Network Railcard or Family Railcard (remembering the latter can be used for journeys beyond the L&SE area), or other reduced fare offers available from time to time. See also below on Kids for £1*.

What happens when additional accompanying children want to travel with an Adult & Child GroupSave party - Kids for £1 ***NEW FEATURE*** Although Adult & Child GroupSave is now available for any appropriate combination of adults and children, all of the participating Train Companies in Adult & Child GroupSave has also made concessions whereby up to four additional accompanying children can travel for £1.00 each, single or return. Note: The normal rule for children under five years that can travel free with each fare paying adult applies, e.g. up to 2 under five years (see National Rail Conditions of Carriage). When calculating the best deal, for some groups with children, a GroupSave3 offer plus £1 fares may be better value (depending on the journey price).

5 TRAIN COMPANIES PARTICIPATING IN ADULT & CHILD GROUPSAVE The following Train Companies offer Adult & Child GroupSave in appropriate adult and child combinations: c2c, Chiltern Railways, First Great Western, First Great Western Link, ‘one’ (Great Eastern area only), Silverlink, South Eastern Trains, South West Trains, Southern, Thameslink, Wagn In addition the following Train Companies continue to offer GroupSave for adults only: Arriva Trains Wales, Central Trains, First ScotRail (Glasgow - Edinburgh route only), , Wessex Trains. Please warn customers if this may affect their planned journey: , GNER, , , , Virgin Trains (West Coast and CrossCountry). Note: For Midland Mainline and other Train Company services see Adult Only GroupSave section in Retail Manual Part Two.

The following ticket types are available for travel with Adult & Child GroupSave: Cheap Day Singles or Returns (or Standard Day Singles or Returns where Cheap Day tickets are not available) Saver Singles or Returns SuperSaver Singles or Returns Network AwayBreaks Note: Adult & Child GroupSave cannot be used for First Class travel, or with any products. GROUPSAVE - SUMMER ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN 2005 The London and South East Train Companies will carry out an extensive off-station GroupSave advertising campaign throughout the summer period. The 3-month long campaign launched on 1 June and will be London based within the M25, promoting travel out of London. The campaign will use TV, Cinema, Underground, Web and electronic mail to target existing and potential leisure travellers. The campaign kicks off with the introduction of a powerful “product badge” that carries the simple message: ‘2 PAY 4 TRAVEL’. This significant advertising concentrates on getting the price message to people who are not frequent users of railway stations. The aim is to create reasons to take a train journey as opposed to considering other means of transport and to improve the number of passengers who find out something about the ticket type before reaching the station.

6 The new ‘2 pay 4 travel’ campaign gives Train Companies the opportunity to place pricing messages into specific environments, e.g. cinemas, in an attempt to quickly optimise the potential of ‘GroupSave’ and increase leisure ticket revenue. To further assist the campaign a new portal website: DaysOutGuide.co.uk will be launched to provide inspirational ideas of where to go with plenty of offers.”

Media in detail TV - One of the most intrusive media types will benefit all Train Companies - broadcast in the London region. Not only will there be 2 x 40 second commercials to champion different areas of the South East but these will be interspersed with no fewer than 8 x 10 second ads featuring specific towns and prices spread across the region. Cinema - Films appealing to the core target group of 25-35 years will drive the GroupSave message home to those who already have a high propensity to go out and about. Underground - Posters, both general awareness and versions with specific prices, e.g. showing the Paddington to Oxford fare, will appear in key Underground stations serving National Rail stations. The first burst focuses on 100 prime poster sites in 32 locations. The second burst uses general distribution, allowing us to spread the message across 500 Underground poster sites. Website - minimum 4,500 attraction entries from 1 June, rising to 6,000 as more links are included. It shows information on closest stations in the search results. The site includes best practice accessibility guidelines. Web banners and search engine listings - these grab internet users' attention and entice them into taking a look at our website. Evening Standard - we are sponsoring the Great Days Out supplement on 7 July, A-Z of Attractions supplement on 27 July and the August Bank Holiday Attractions supplement. These publications are promoting attractions and events for both day and night visits and will help spread awareness for the duration of the summer with the '2 pay 4 travel' message in multiple advertising.

TO BE READ BY: TRAIN COMPANY RETAIL STAFF U ON-TRAIN STAFF U 6 TRAVEL AGENTS U RAIL–SEA–RAIL

There have been a number of changes to Rail — Sea — Rail journeys between the UK and Ireland. You will already have noticed removal of the odd scattering of peak dates throughout the year and adoption of July and August as the only peak period for both the Central and Southern sea corridors. From June 2005, these sea corridors will also have a more harmonised fare structure with only two walk-up ticket types: Super-Economy and Economy. The single will be half the return price, and will provide increased flexibility for passengers who wish to travel out via one route or operator and back via the other, by offering the ability to purchase a single fare in each direction routed for the correct ferry operator. Return fares, with travel on the same ferry operator each way may continue to be sold as before. As the fares have been heavily discounted to offer a very attractive price, even compared to the low cost airlines, the use of Railcards has been withdrawn and no break of journey will be permitted. SailRail products will be available for purchase at all Ticket Offices, Rail Appointed Travel Agents and existing TOC Telesales Offices. In addition a new SailRail dedicated telesales number (08450 755755) is now available for customers wishing to book by phone and receive their tickets by post, allowing a minimum of 5 working days for delivery. A new SailRail website has also been launched with selected journey information and complete fare information. This can be accessed at www.sailrail.co.uk Please also note that the fare details between Pembroke and Rosslare via Irish Ferries in RailLinks Manual, section D, page D8, are incorrect and will be re-issued shortly. JUNE to DECEMBER TIMETABLES (June 12 – December 10 2005) Arriving soon at stations — the new timetables At the last timetable change (December 2004), six different publications were published — one First Great Western Guide to Services and five First Great Western Link route-specific timetables. Following customer feedback and internal review, four new regional timetables have been developed, integrating service information of both operators for the first time. The main purpose of this change is to simplify what is offered to customers, tailoring the information to their specific journeys as much as possible, and, with the addition of more information about onward connections, providing complete journey solutions. Numbered 1 to 4, the books detail the following routes. Book 1 London Paddington and Reading to Swindon, Gloucester, Cheltenham Spa, Bath Spa, Bristol, Taunton, South Wales and West Wales. Book 2 London Paddington and Reading to the West of England London Paddington and Reading to Newbury and Bedwyn Reading to Basingstoke Book 3 London Paddington and Reading to Oxford, Bicester Town and Banbury London Paddington and Reading to Oxford, Worcester, Great Malvern and Hereford Summary of fast services between London Paddington and Oxford Book 4 London Paddington to Ealing Broadway, Greenford, , Slough, Maidenhead, Twyford and Reading Slough to Windsor & Eton Central Maidenhead to Marlow Twyford to Henley-on-Thames Reading to Guildford, Redhill and Each book also contains a summary table of fast services between London Paddington and Reading for quick reference. A communications plan is being put into place informing customers of the relevant book to pick up for their journey. This information will also be issued to frontline staff so that any customer queries about the new timetables can be answered. 22 Mini timetables are also being produced which give customers quick and easy pocket-sized information for selected routes. HEATHROW CONNECT The official launch of Heathrow Connect, First’s joint venture with BAA, takes place at Paddington on 16 June. The new service, which will complement the hugely successful Heathrow Express service will be operational from 13 June. Established to provide a regular stopping service from Paddington, it will serve mainly Ealing, Southall and Hayes. On weekdays it will run at half hourly intervals in both directions leaving Paddington at 08 and 38 minutes past the hour, and Heathrow Airport at 11 and 41 past the hour. Attendants will be on board all services to assist customers, provide security and protect revenue. For further details about Heathrow Connect please see the accompanying article (item 9) in this issue detailing fares and retailing issues.

13 FARES CHANGES FOLLOWING RISING FUEL COSTS Fares increases are due to come into effect from 12 June. These increases will be introduced on the back of a significant worldwide increase in fuel prices. The price of crude oil has increased by around 50% in the last year, fuel duty by 30% last December and another increase is due in September 2005. When one considers the fact that First Great Western alone uses more than 70 million litres of diesel a year and car users are facing an even greater increase than rail passengers in terms of costs then the fares increase can be seen to be understandable and reasonable. We work hard to keep our fuel costs down by hedging, or fixing the price of diesel in advance. Unfortunately even the most comprehensive negotiations with our suppliers on behalf of our customers would not be able to counteract the worldwide rise in oil prices. First Great Western has limited its fare rise to an average of 2.2%. Unrestricted Open tickets will increase by 6%. First Class season tickets by 3.2%, Savers by 0.6%, and SaverFirst, Apex, SuperAdvance and Advance by 2.5%. First Great Western Link uses significantly less fuel than FGW, consequently we are in a position to freeze all fares apart from First Class season tickets, which will rise by 3.2%. WEEKEND FIRST EXTENDED TO FIRST GREAT WESTERN LINK Weekend First is extended to include FGW Link services. The supplement between any two stations within the FGWL area, (except the North Line Oxford-Worcester-Hereford)*, will be £5, valid for FGW and FGWL services. The £5.00 upgrade (where available) must be purchased in advance of travel (unless travelling from unstaffed stations). The supplement stays £10 as now for any other journey (or to/from the North Cotswolds). The £10.00 upgrade may be purchased in advance (compulsory reservations) by customers holding walk-up tickets, or may be bought on train by walk-up and Advance Purchase ticket holders, subject to availability. [* Area bounded by Paddington — Banbury — Oxford — Bicester Town — Didcot Parkway — Bedwyn — Basingstoke-Gatwick Airport, including Henley, Marlow, Windsor Ctl, Greenford branch lines.] GATWICK AIRPORT FLYAWAY The price for this ticket will be increased to £45 (from 12 June) from the following stations only: Reading, Reading West, Tilehurst and Theale. This product allows 2 , 3 or 4 adults to travel to Gatwick Airport on one ticket at a flat rate price. Railcard discounts are not available and proof of airline travel must be shown when purchasing tickets. Marketing Executive 07 79528

16 TO BE READ BY: TRAIN COMPANY RETAIL STAFF U ON-TRAIN STAFF U 10 TRAVEL AGENTS U A CHANGE TO HOW WE COMMUNICATE OUR SERVICE

The following provides an explanation on how we are changing the way we communicate our products and service. These changes should help create a simplified approach to describing our new trains and the premium service available onboard. They take effect from 12 June 2005.

Club Class to First Class ‘Club Class’ changes to ‘First Class’ on Voyagers The introduction of First Class on Voyagers to replace Club Class has evolved from customer feedback that they find the current name confusing. First Class is very well understood and provides much clearer identification to customers, whilst bringing us in line with the rest of the industry. Prominent use of Voyager and Pendolino train names will be used to help customers understand and identify the different premium services available across our network, and support decision-making. The main channels for externally communicating this change are: • Customer literature including timetables, leaflets, station posters • Station and onboard announcements • Prominent exterior and interior labelling • Onboard communication including antimacassars, menus, Hotline Magazine • IT systems including our website, intranet, station CIS and public address systems • A letter will also be distributed on the Voyager network informing customers of the change from Club Class to First Class during the first week of June. The First Class logo for the Pendolino exterior has been revised to provide customers with clearer visibility of the signage. And Voyager will display the same newly improved First Class logo. Large circular labels with a number ‘1’ in the middle will also be displayed in-between the windows at each end of the carriage exterior. Interior doors will feature similar labels to further increase the prominence of First Class. And finally, Voyagers will also display a yellow strip on either side of First Class carriages to emphasise the location within the train formation. Although the Standard onboard product is much more consistent across both fleets, there are a few differences that will benefit from greater prominence of the train names such as differences in the onboard shop and number of at-seat audio channels. So it is important to ensure that there is consistency in the approach we use when talking about both classes of accommodation.

Virgin Trains — one network To generate greater awareness of our brand new trains, from 12 June 2005, we will no longer make any reference to West Coast or CrossCountry in any of our external communication — verbal or printed. Voyager and Pendolino will be used much more prominently than ever before throughout all of our communication, from CIS and literature at stations to our onboard announcements and the website. When referring to Virgin Trains services, franchise names should not be mentioned. Only train names should be used to describe the service — Virgin Voyager or Virgin Pendolino.

Voyager shop opening hours We’re changing the shop opening hours on all Voyager routes as very few sales are made after 2000. As of 12 June the shop opening hours will be 0500 to 2000 seven days a week.

17 Customers on a Voyager journey after 2000 will be made aware, in advance, when the shop will be closing. However, in some instances Retail Sales Managers (RSM) may be diagrammed to work after 2000. If the RSM is working on the train after 2000 the shop will be kept open as usual. This does not apply to Voyagers running between North Wales and London Euston (VT4). Marketing Services Manager 020 7391 8145 00 48145
