ATOC Marketing, Railcards Samantha Mathieson 020 7841 8056 Joanna Ford 020 7841 8053 Newsrail Express for train company National Rail information • over 8,000 copies printed fortnightly • 3,000 stations, travel agents and call centres receive Newsrail Express • Estimated readership of 15,000 retail staff 4 TO BE READ BY: TRAIN COMPANY RETAIL STAFF U ON-TRAIN STAFF 2 TRAVEL AGENTS * ASSOCIATION of TRAIN OPERATING COMPANIES * ADULT & CHILD GROUPSAVE IN LONDON & SOUTH EAST AREA (L&SE) AND ON FIRST GREAT WESTERN Includes accompanying "Kids for £1" offers FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE NATIONAL FARES MANUALS AND RETAIL MANUAL PART TWO. SEE ***NEW FEATURE*** ITEMS: PARTICIPATING TRAIN COMPANIES FROM 12 JUNE 2005: c2c, Chiltern Railways, First Great Western, First Great Western Link, 'one' (Great Eastern area only), Silverlink, South Eastern Trains, South West Trains, Southern, Thameslink, Wagn INTRODUCTION What is Adult & Child GroupSave? ***NEW FEATURE*** Adult & Child GroupSave now offers parties consisting of any appropriate combination of adults and children the opportunity to travel for the price two adults would normally pay. • Adult & Child GroupSave is now available in the L&SE area and on First Great Western for any combination of adult and child use where appropriate (see Retail Manual Part Two for details) • Children are therefore permitted to travel on an adult ticket as part of the GroupSave3 or GroupSave4 combinations What is the aim of Adult & Child GroupSave? Research in the L&SE area and on First Great Western amongst non-rail users shows that many car-sized groups of three or four could use the train. Nearly half said children were part of the three or four combination going by car and they could be persuaded to go by train if kids were included in the core GroupSave offer. What size is a qualifying Adult & Child GroupSave party? A qualifying group is three or four people travelling together. In the L&SE area and on First Great Western, the group may consist of any appropriate combination of adults and children: GroupSave3* 3 adults, 1 adult and 2 children, 2 adults and 1 child. GroupSave4* 4 adults, 1 adult and 3 children, 2 adults and 2 children, 3 adults and 1 child. Note: In some cases better value deals may be available with a Network Railcard or Family Railcard (remembering the latter can be used for journeys beyond the L&SE area), or other reduced fare offers available from time to time. See also below on Kids for £1*. What happens when additional accompanying children want to travel with an Adult & Child GroupSave party - Kids for £1 ***NEW FEATURE*** Although Adult & Child GroupSave is now available for any appropriate combination of adults and children, all of the participating Train Companies in Adult & Child GroupSave has also made concessions whereby up to four additional accompanying children can travel for £1.00 each, single or return. Note: The normal rule for children under five years that can travel free with each fare paying adult applies, e.g. up to 2 under five years (see National Rail Conditions of Carriage). When calculating the best deal, for some groups with children, a GroupSave3 offer plus £1 fares may be better value (depending on the journey price). 5 TRAIN COMPANIES PARTICIPATING IN ADULT & CHILD GROUPSAVE The following Train Companies offer Adult & Child GroupSave in appropriate adult and child combinations: c2c, Chiltern Railways, First Great Western, First Great Western Link, ‘one’ (Great Eastern area only), Silverlink, South Eastern Trains, South West Trains, Southern, Thameslink, Wagn In addition the following Train Companies continue to offer GroupSave for adults only: Arriva Trains Wales, Central Trains, First ScotRail (Glasgow - Edinburgh route only), Midland Mainline, Wessex Trains. See Retail Manual Part Two for details. Train Companies in L&SE area that will not honour Adult & Child GroupSave The following Train Companies operating services in the L&SE area do not honour GroupSave tickets on their services. Please warn customers if this may affect their planned journey: Gatwick Express, GNER, Heathrow Express, Hull Trains, Island Line, Virgin Trains (West Coast and CrossCountry).
