Eva Meier ‘ 20s’ 二十年代的柏林

The sound of a Lenya, Lemper and Dietrich are all a part of her own voice . . .

She has been described by The New Yorker as “powerful”.

The Berlin 20s Tonight Eva Meier will be taking you on a journey to another era with a selection of songs that were written during a period when Berlin eclipsed even Paris as the cultural capital of Europe. Her repertoire embraces the work of lyricist Bertolt Brecht and composer Kurt Weill who created a totally new and provocative song style in works like ‘The Three-penny Opera’, ‘Mahagonny’ and ‘Happy End’; also Hanns Eisler in whom Brecht found a sympathetic composer for his political and social songs. She will sing songs by and lyricist , Werner Richard Heymann and lyricist Robert Gilbert and who wrote songs mostly for . They were all able to illustrate life in the big city: the experiences of loneliness, anonymity, crime, fear, revenge, love and dreams; glimpses that last about three minutes each.

Eva Meier has thrilled audiences in numerous countries outside her native , including Spain, Italy, the United States, Japan, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece, North Africa, and in particular Britain where she has performed at the Linbury Studio of the Royal Opera House during the Covent Garden Festivals of 1998, 2000 and 2001 and at the Purcell Room for the Jewish Music Festivals of 2001 and 2002 as well as at the Mayfair, Edinburgh, Arundel and Dublin Festivals.
