s the world, including Pakistan, celebrates the World Teachers' Day on October 5, we need to look at the state in which our teachers live, work and are treated. There is no doubt that teachers A are the foundations of the education system of a country. Despite their important role, acknowledged by everyone, teachers don’t get their basic rights. It is sad to see, and is a reality of Pakistani society, that those individuals who are unable to find work are told to start teaching. By this action the architects of the nation are those who themselves need education. Because of the low status of a teacher, the most incompetent people find themselves at the helm of this important task. We cannot simply – as always – put the blame on the government and move on. The entire nation is responsible for this grave negligence. We simply cannot look away this time; we need to act as a nation that wants change in education system. The best solution cannot come from the government alone. The best people amongst us must opt to become a teacher. Only by such an initiative our education can improve. The Educationist: Sir, there is a problem that the deans’ number is very low. Perhaps the appointments of many deans are pending for last many years. Why?. Dr Hassan Amir Shah: Well,For that last 4 or 5 years we have had only one dean but now recently we have sent names for deans. Dean is appointed by the government.
