The Championship was organized by the Sports Division of HEC, led by its Director General Mr. Rahim Bux Channa, in collaboration with Pakistan Basketball Federation and Pakistan Sports Board. Other participating teams included Police, Punjab, Rangers, Islamabad, Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP. Both the teams put in their best effort to make the game electrifyingly spectacular for the equally charged audience. Among them were Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, Federal Minister for Sports and Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Special HEC team receives the trophy. Speaking to the audience, after giving away prizes to the winners, the Minister expressed his gratitude to the HEC, Pakistan Sports Board and Pakistan Basketball Federation. “I urge all national sports associations to follow this event's example in promoting sports that will not only provide opportunities to our youth but will also bring out the tremendous talent that they have,” he said. While congratulating the winning team, he also e n c o u r a g e d t h e o t h e r competitors. “For those of you, who did not win any medal, remember that we are proud of you for having given your best. What is important is the spirit of competition. I look forward to seeing you compete in future games. True sportsmanship is reflected through the spirit of giving your best, never giving up and continuously striving to improve,” he stressed. The Minister said that this Championship has been a great event to arouse public interest, to promote the game of Basketball in Pakistan and, especially to encourage the female players. Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali said that sport has a huge part to play in the life of a healthy community. She said that it is an outlet for energies of the young people. “Sport develops individual character and teamwork. The positive influence of sport on all aspects of human life including its benefits for health, socialization, self-confidence, leadership skills, and mutual understanding across divisions of 9 0 0 2 race, culture and gender means that its importance - y l u should never be ignored,” she added.
