1 W E L C O M E T O S A I N T A M B R O S E If this is your first time to visit an Anglican Church, welcome! Our church follows a historic liturgy (meaning the “work of the people”) that involves your participation. Wherever you see bolded text, that is where you take up the work of the people! Our liturgy has two parts: the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Table. With the former we hear, read, sing, and pray God’s Word, with the latter we eat and drink to celebrate this Word made flesh in Jesus Christ. As Anglicans, we stand to sing, kneel to pray, and sit to learn; this reminds us that our bodies matter and that God created us as physical beings for a reason. At various points, you may notice people bowing or making the sign of the cross (gesturing with their hand at their forehead, chest, and shoulders). You'll also notice things like candles, crosses, the smell of incense, and ministers wearing strange garments. All of this has a rich history and symbolism within Christ’s church and is aimed at saying something about God and His Gospel. If you are unfamiliar with liturgical worship (most of us at some point), this all may seem distracting at first, but give it time, it becomes second-nature and is a beautiful means of keeping our worship and knowledge of God from being trapped in our heads as we learn to worship Him with our whole selves. Ultimately, our worship is not about us or what we give to God, but it is about Him and what he gives to us. Welcome to Saint Ambrose!
G U I D E L I N E S R E G A R D I N G C O V I D - 1 9 We follow the CDC guidelines with regards to COVID-19 and work on an honor system. We do not check the vaccination status of anyone and allow folks to enter the building without a mask. However, we ask the unvaccinated and immunocompromised to mask, though like a restaurant, regardless of your vaccination status, you can unmask in your seat. With regards to children and masks, we are leaving this decision up to the wisdom and discretion of each parent. The signs on the pews along with blue tape are no longer in effect for us but we are keeping them up for our host church. C H I L D R E N We love to have children in worship with us. Childcare is also provided downstairs. As you arrive, you will be asked to fill out an information form. All our childcare workers have undergone a thorough background check and adhere to established protocols in order to provide safe and proper care to our children. If you desire to keep your kids in parts of the service and want to take them down at any point, please feel free to excuse yourself.
R E S T R O O M S Restrooms are located downstairs which can be accessed through the stairwell or by the wheelchair accessible elevator located just outside the sanctuary.

We observe a season of Ordinary Time A D V E N T from Pentecost until Advent, which we count as weeks following Pentecost. C H R I S T M A S T I D E Ordinary from its Latin root means “order”. Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. T H E F I R S T L E S S O N Ephesians 3:8-21 Reader: A reading from St. Paul’s epistle to the church in Ephesus.
To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory.
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Celebrant: Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. ✠ We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Father, you are the giver of every good gift: and we thank you for Andrew and Lindsay Hendrixson and the days you have given them here with us, and as they go now to North Carolina, to pursue education at Duke and continue work with National MS Society, we ask that you would look graciously upon them, and go before them, upholding your promises to never leave them or forsake them. We pray you would fortify their marriage and give them unity as they navigate new rythms together, and as new challenges are surely to come, surround them with loving community as they settle in NC. Protect them from every danger of the flesh and the enemy, may your grace be sufficent in all things, and would you cause them to flourish in powerfully new ways as they live into their callings. May their delight in you deepen and in return may you grant them the desires of their hearts in all things, even for children and a family. We pray, Father, your rich blessing upon this your son and daughter. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Andrew and Linday, May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ daily renew you, the love of God daily bear you up, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit keep us united to you, and may the blessing of God Almighty: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, encourage both of your hearts and strengthen you for every good deed and word. Celebrant: Let us humbly confess our sins to Almight God.
We invite you to kneel as you are able. We’ll begin in silence confessing privately, then we’ll confess the following prayer together. See page 23 for a guide to help you consider where you have sinned against God and neighbor.
Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws.We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and apart from your grace, there is no health in us. O Lord, have mercy upon us. Spare all those who confess their faults. Restore all those who are penitent, according to your promises declared to all people in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may now live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of your holy Name. Amen.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28–30) In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. The church's one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord, She is His new creation By water and the Word. From heaven He came and sought her To be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her, And for her life He died.
The church shall never perish, Her dear Lord to defend To guide, sustain and cherish, Is with her to the end Though there be those that hate her, And false sons in her pale Against a foe or traitor, She ever shall prevail
Yet she on earth hath union With God the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion With those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we Like them, the meek and lowly, On high may dwell with Thee.

T H E P R A Y E R O F C O N S E C R A T I O N We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.
On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body, which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.” Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
17 We offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may receive the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. ✠ Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.
