IMPORTANT NOTES

This system has been designed to function reliably and without modification in most injection moulded polymer stocks and common variants of timber and composite stocks replicating basic factory Remington dimensions. systems without an opening for a hinged floor plate assembly do not accommodate the use of a detachable magazine conversion. The system has been extensively tested in OEM Remington polymer stocks, Hogue polymer, Boyd laminated timber, GRS polymer and Bell & Carlson composite reinforced stocks. Alternate stock systems may exist that do not fundamentally replicate factory Remington dimensions which therefore may not be suitable in standard form.

Lucky Thirteen recommends a minimum of pillar bedding if using either timber or soft polymer stock variants. Due to the soft nature of these materials and particularly laminated timbers, the base material of these stocks will compress under the loading of action screw torque. Without basic pillar bedding these stocks will not be able to achieve or maintain sufficient clamping force to retain the bottom metal and loaded ten round magazine under recoil. Low installed action screw torque will result in gradual loosening of system components, poor rifle accuracy and ultimately, damage to the and accessories.

Recommended installed action screw torque when using the Lucky Thirteen Remington Model 700 detachable magazine kit is 65 inch pounds force. DAMAGE DUE TO INCORRECT ACTION SCREW TORQUE WILL NOT BE COVERED BY LUCKY THIRTEEN UNDER WARRANTY. REQUIRED TOOLS

• 5/32” Allen Key, or Allen bit and suitable driver • Adjustable torque wrench reading in inch pounds (in/lbs)

OPTIONAL TOOLS

• Vernier calliper for depth measurement • Gun vice INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Ensure the firearm is unloaded.

2. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

3. If installed, remove the bolt from the firearm and set aside

a. To remove bolt from rifle: With the bolt part way to the rear, depress the bolt-stop and withdraw the bolt rearward out of the receiver.

4. Place firearm on a clean padded surface which allows you to firmly grasp the rifle. With a suitable 5/32” bit and driver, loosen and remove the two action screws located on the underside of the stock at the front and the rear of the trigger guard. Retain these two action screws as they are to be reused to fit Lucky Thirteen detachable magazine kit.

5. Carefully remove the factory Remington trigger guard and hinged floorplate assembly from the stock and action and set aside. These components will no longer be required for the installation of the Lucky Thirteen detachable magazine kit. 6. With the factory bottom metal removed and the stock still firmly seated to the action, measure the height of the front and rear bedding pillars in the stock to the action faces. The Lucky Thirteen Remington 700 SA detachable magazine kit is designed to perform reliably without any shimming when the stock bedding pillars to action faces measure:

FRONT: 19.5 – 21.0mm (0.768” – 0.827”)

REAR: 32.0 – 33.5mm (1.260” – 1.319”)

These above listed dimensions combined with the supplied shim pack allow for direct fitment of the Lucky Thirteen system into most commonly available stock variants. A quick reference table of mainstream stock variants and their respective space-outs is provided in step#7. REAR FRONT PILLAR PILLAR HEIGHT HEIGHT

7. Four shims come provided with each Lucky Thirteen detachable magazine kit. Each shim measures 0.8mm (0.031”) thick. If the pillar heights of the stock being used do not conform to the above specification, use the supplied shims to space out the bottom metal correctly.

a. With the stock firmly seated against the action and the empty magazine well facing upward, sit the desired shims on top of the bedding pillars prior to seating the bottom metal. The shims should be placed on top of the aluminium bedding pillars, sandwiched between the bedding pillar and bottom metal clamping faces. The action screws should pass through the centre hole of the shims to locate and retain the assembly.

b. An approximate guide for a starting point for shim installation with each of the five tested mainstream stock types is shown below. Note: The following table is a guideline only based on the average tested stocks of these types. Measured pillar heights are always the final deciding factor for installation.

c. If the pillar measurements are significantly larger than the recommended specification then relief of the stock/pillars may be required to bring dimensions back within standard allowances. STOCK TYPE FRONT REAR HOGUE polymer, pillar bedded 1 x SHIM NO SHIMS REMINGTON OEM polymer, pillar bedded 1 x SHIM 1 x SHIM BELL & CARLSON composite, pillar bedded NO SHIMS NO SHIMS BOYD (thumbhole) laminated timber, pillar bedded 1 x SHIM 1 x SHIM GRS BERSERK polymer, pillar bedded NO SHIMS NO SHIMS

8. Take the Lucky Thirteen detachable magazine kit from its packaging and remove the magazine from the bottom metal and set aside.

a. To remove the ten round magazine from the bottom metal, depress the locking lever located at the front of the trigger guard.

b. Gently apply some rearward pressure to the magazine to unlatch the front locking tab.

c. With the locking lever still depressed, slide the magazine downwards, free of the bottom metal.

9. Take the empty bottom metal and set it into its location in the stock atop the bedding pillars and any required shims (In certain pistol grip style stocks such as the GRS Berserk, the profile of the stock itself may make it necessary tosit the bottom metal into the stock, and then set the stock and bottom metal as one unit onto the barrelled action).

10. Loosely re-fit the action screws to their original locations through the new bottom metal.

a. The SHORTER action screw is to be used at the FRONT of the bottom metal, ahead of the magazine well.

b. The LONGER action screw is to be used at the REAR of the bottom metal, rearward of the trigger guard. 11. Prior to torqueing the action screws, it is desirable at this stage to check the front to rear location of the bottom metal assembly with respect to the action. Amongst stock brands and manufacturers, varying degrees of free-play exist surrounding the bottom metal. It is preferable at this point to correctly locate the assembly prior to tightening the action screws.

a. Place the EMPTY/UNLOADED magazine into the loosely fitted bottom metal.

b. Slide the bottom metal and magazine assembly forward towards the muzzle of the rifle if possible until the front face of the magazine upper contacts the action.

c. From this point, slide the assembly rearward just enough to ensure the magazine is not physically impacting the front face of the action.

d. This method of fitment will ensure any inherent ‘end float’ in the stock is minimised.

e. Carefully remove the magazine from the bottom metal and proceed to step #12. 12. Using an accurate torque wrench, torque the action screws in stages to the final specification of 65 in/lbs. This minimum action screw torque is required to generate sufficient clamping force to retain the bottom metal and loaded ten round magazine under recoil. Low installed action screw torque will result in gradual loosening of system components, poor rifle accuracy and ultimately, damage to the firearm and accessories.

DAMAGE DUE TO INCORRECT ACTION SCREW TORQUE WILL NOT BE COVERED BY LUCKY THIRTEEN UNDER WARRANTY. 13. With the bottom metal now securely fitted to the rifle, install and check the location of the UNLOADED magazine with respect to the action. Note: The Lucky Thirteen Remington 700 ten round magazine locks into position both at the front, and at the rear for maximum durability and feeding reliability.

a. To fit the ten round magazine to the bottom metal, slide the magazine upwards into the bottom metal cavity.

b. With the front of the magazine tilted slightly higher than the rear, slide the magazine upwards towards the rifle action until the engagement of the front locking tab.

c. With front locking tab engaged, rock the rear of the magazine upwards until the spring-loaded paddle rear release lever locks into place.

d. Test the retention of the magazine to ensure both front and rear tabs are locked into place by gently pulling downward on the magazine body.

14. For completion of fitment testing, reinstall the operating bolt into the UNLOADED firearm.

a. ENSURE THAT THE FIREARM IS UNLOADED.

b. Align the locking lugs on the bolt with their races in the receiver.

c. Push the bolt forward, gently into the receiver until the bolt stop snaps into place behind the bolt head.

d. To ensure engagement, gently pull the open bolt rearward until it contacts against the bolt stop. 15. With the system correctly installed, the feed lips of the magazine should be as close as possible to the underside of the action and the bolt body, without contacting either component when cycling the firearm. This will ensure maximum bolt contact and smooth feeding when chambering loaded rounds.

16. If when trial fitting the magazine any of the following cases listed below are evident, remove the action screws and the bottom metal assembly from the firearm and return to step #6 to establish correct system space out.

a. With the magazine feed lips seated against the action, either of the front or rear retention tabs are not able to be engaged, the magazine is likely spaced too close to the action.

b. If when trial fitting the magazine, the retention tabs lock into place and there is excessive gap between the feed lips and the underside of the bolt body and action, the magazine is likely spaced too far from the action.

c. If when trial fitting the magazine, the retention tabs lock into place but the rear latching lever is unable to be depressed to remove the magazine, the system is spaced slightly too close to the action (the release lever does not have enough room to move through its arc to release the magazine). 17. Having successfully installed the Lucky Thirteen bottom metal and ten round magazine to your short action Remington Model 700, please adhere to all safe shooting practices and enjoy your new detachable magazine.
