RESEARCH ROUND UP Vikram Seth’s A Suitable Boy and Two Lives: From Resistance to Reconciliation Siddhartha Singh Associate Professor, Department of English, Shri Jai Narain PG College, Lucknow After writing the mammoth novel A Suitable Boy (1994) Vikram Seth was groping to find a suitable subject to write on. He was suggested by his mother Leela Seth to write about his grand uncle Shanti and his German-Jewish wife Henny. The result was Two Lives (2005), a biographical memoire, which masterfully fuses autobiography, documentary, history, fiction and essay like excursions. Critical attention has been lavished on both the works, but there is hardly any critical enquiry which has paid attention to the writer’s development from resistance to reconciliation, especially in the context to these two works.
