Dear sports friends
nited European sports family has succeeded! Europe, living a full sports and UOlympic life for many decades, can – thanks to gradual building up of this chance - enjoy since this, historical 2015 its new fruit - the European games. President of the Sports that unites almost everything without exception and creates new values Croatian Olympic (economic, cultural and social), gets through these continental games a new Committee opportunity and new incentive for its further development. and member of the EOC Executive Committee Believing that idea and by trying to help Europe strengthen – through the organization of the rst continental games on its very soil - the eorts to make sports a component of creative, modern and highly successful Europe, today we Zlatko Mateša, PhD truly happy to succeed in our long-term eorts. From its very beginning, Croatian sports is involved in the promotion of the European Games through encouraging the cooperation among all the member states of the European Sports Association, as well as through mobilizing the national TV house Sportska televizija (Sports television) whose owner and founder is the Croatian Olympic Committee.
We wish to congratulate the host of the Games, the city of Baku, which has demonstrated not only a huge potential in the organization, but also an exceptional responsibility and strong hosting motive, for which it is the European Olympic family is very grateful.
I wish all the athletes, members of the professional sta, media, volunteers and guests of the rst European Games in Baku the best results and to gain the experience that will strengthen the new sports, but also the social characteristic of Europe.
6 FOREWORD FOREWORD
Dear participants of the European Games,
he idea of the European Games exists already for a few decades, but, until Trecently, no one has had enough courage and patience to deal with the organization of the Games because its organization, of course, involves solving a whole range of dierent types and levels of problems. Secretary General of the Croatian Six years ago, European Committees, with consent and support of the International Olympic Olympic Committee, started working on the realization of the idea of European Committee Games. Therefore, dear readers and participants of the Games, you will have the honor to be the rst participants at the European games organized by the city of Josip Čop Baku in Azerbaijan.
The host city has made a miracle in each and every way. Sports facilities at the highest level as well as accommodation of the participants of the Games. There is no doubt that Baku will set high standards that future Games’ organizers will have diculties to achieve.
As always, the performance of our athletes is intertwined with optimism, even though the participants in certain sports will not be the best Croatian teams or individuals. However, we expect to win several medals. How many? It is dicult to predict, but what I do know for sure is that they will present the colors of their country in the best possible way. They will be, as always, the best ambassadors and promoters of the Republic of Croatia.
I wish all the participants of the Games a pleasant stay in Baku and happy return from the rst European Games.
