  • Spiritual Ecology: on the Way to Ecological Existentialism
religions Article Spiritual Ecology: On the Way to Ecological Existentialism Sam Mickey Theology and Religious Studies, University of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA 94117, USA; [email protected] Received: 17 September 2020; Accepted: 29 October 2020; Published: 4 November 2020 Abstract: Spiritual ecology is closely related to inquiries into religion and ecology, religion and nature, and religious environmentalism. This article presents considerations of the unique possibilities afforded by the idea of spiritual ecology. On one hand, these possibilities include problematic tendencies in some strands of contemporary spirituality, including anti-intellectualism, a lack of sociopolitical engagement, and complicity in a sense of happiness that is captured by capitalist enclosures and consumerist desires. On the other hand, spiritual ecology promises to involve an existential commitment to solidarity with nonhumans, and it gestures toward ways of knowing and interacting that are more inclusive than what is typically conveyed by the term “religion.” Much work on spiritual ecology is broadly pluralistic, leaving open the question of how to discern the difference between better and worse forms of spiritual ecology. This article affirms that pluralism while also distinguishing between the anti-intellectual, individualistic, and capitalistic possibilities of spiritual ecology from varieties of spiritual ecology that are on the way to what can be described as ecological existentialism or coexistentialism. Keywords: spirituality; existentialism; ecology; animism; pluralism; knowledge 1. Introduction Spiritual ecology, broadly conceived, refers to ways that individuals and communities orient their thinking, feeling, and acting in response to the intersection of religions and spiritualities with ecology, nature, and environmentalism. There are other ways of referring to this topic.

  • Rethinking Family Business Succession KAJSA HAAG
DS DS Rethinking family business succession KAJSA HAAG From a problem to solve to an ongoing practice KAJSA HAAG Rethinking family business succession business Rethinking family As the title denotes, I suggest we think differently about family business succes- sion. I propose to rethink succession from a problem to a practice. This means that Rethinking family business succession is not a problem to solve but something people do in family business; it succession is ongoing, it is integrated and it is ordinary. It poses an alternative to the common view of succession as something problematic, separate and extraordinary to handle From a problem to solve to an ongoing practice in order to carry on with the business. To view succession as a practice opens up new understanding of succession as a continuing flow of activities embedded in the everyday life of business families instead of a problem to overcome through succession planning. This notion is philosophically inspired by sociology of practice, theoretically based in a practice KAJSA HAAG perspective of strategy, and empirically explored in a case of succession at Karl Andersson & Söner. Three conceptions are developed that aid the analysis of suc- cession, framing it as originating from socialization, included in everyday routines and progressing without design. The study shows how succession evolves as family members are socialized, en- gaged and trained through the durée of daily life. Beyond that, it shows how succession is not just about handing the business over from one generation to the next. It is also about working together in the moment, developing the business while preserving its essence.

  • Catechist's Notes
CATECHIST’S NOTES Section Two CATECHIST’S NOTES for Grade 7 Table of Contents CLASS 1: Self-respect: Acknowledging why you are so important CLASS 2: Understanding the changes we experience CLASS 3: Friendship, love, and life CLASS 4: Christ in my home and in my life CLASS 5: Personal Safety Curriculum CATECHIST’S VOCATION — God’s Call NOTES Grade 7 Class 1 Studying what the Lord teaches us about sexuality Introduction General aim of the lesson This class is planned to help the students realize the goodness of our vocation: our call to be Christians, and our call by God Himself to an important life. It could be a call to become a priest or religious, or it could be a divine vocation to enter marriage with a very special person, and have children, and find our way to heaven by doing great things on this earth in ordinary circumstances. The whole idea of vocation is explored here: God’s deep concern for everything in our life, and how we plan our lives — the ways we learn to put all that we are as boys and girls into becoming men and women. Specific objectives 1. To recall the first vocation we have: to be personal friends and followers of Christ, and to shape everything in our lives in ways that are faithful to the Lord. 2. To think about our special vocations: how God cares very much about the life each one of us will live — the kind of life He invites us to and that we decide to live, and all the special circumstances of the life He invites each one of us to have.

  • MNL and PMA Recommend That All Municipal Offices and Public Facilities Should Now Be Closed to the Public Including Appointments
Updated: May 1, 2020 1. WHAT ARE THE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MUNICIPAL OPERATIONS AND STAFFING? MNL and PMA recommend that all municipal offices and public facilities should now be closed to the public including appointments. Business continuity planning in the case of an emergency, if available, should now be in place. All municipalities should explore and encourage banking online or through the phone, or payments through cheque/money order if online banking is not a possibility. Where and when possible, office staff should be working from home. If staff cannot work from home, advised social distancing guidelines and hygiene practices should be maintained in the office. Public works and outside staff should follow social distancing and hygiene practices and should work from home on an on-call basis, when possible. Update May 1, 2020: MNL is seeking further clarification on the role of municipalities in reopening and what reopening means for municipal operations. 2. WE ARE A SMALL COMMUNITY WITH A SMALL MAINTENANCE STAFF. IF OUR STAFF BECOME ILL, WHAT SHOULD WE DO? Ensure anyone who is feeling ill calls 811 and self-isolates for their protection and the protection of others. Reach out to neighbouring communities now to discuss whether there is an opportunity to share staff across the region should the need arise – particularly for critical services like drinking water. Mutual aid agreements can be helpful in these situations. If all or a large portion of your staff fall ill, you will have to curtail services unless you are able to work out an arrangement with neighbouring municipalities. If you are unable to find another solution, contact the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment.

  • The Psychedelic Furs
Periódico # 17 Marzo 2018 ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN EDUCATION Nowadays in our society, new technologies are an important aspect to consider in the academic world because it is true that we live in the society of technological changes. But, is using new technologies in education and advantage or a disadvantage? By Leticia Jiménez Some teachers argue that using new technologies in education is affecting young people´s concentration span, but I´m not convinced because new technologies bring us some benefits. For example, it helps motivate students, since it is more dynamic and entertaining. What is more, it offers us distance learning thanks to the Internet. In addition to this, distance learning offers opportunities to those who cannot attend class regularly. Fortunately, there has been a huge increase in the use of new technologies. Personally, I prefer face-to-face education but distance learning is a good alternative if you want to study in your free time. True, it is a different kind of education, but we should see it as a complement to face-to-face education. So, what is the answer? I am sure that new technologies are good in the academic world and they have some advantages, if and when we make good use of them. The riddle of axing time wasting All of us live in a hurry. Our way of life requires paying attention to a lot of things: job, family, friends, gym... So, time management has become 'El Dorado'. By Pedro Padilla We cannot avoid 21st century obligations, but at least we are able to manage our time better, for instance, in the workplace.

In our globalized era, it is tempting to imagine that urban experiences have a quality of sameness: skyscrapers, subways and chain stores; a density of bricks and humanity; a sense of urgency and striving. The essays in Mthis collection make clear how wrong that assumption would be: from the dreamland of Jonathan Kellerman’s Los Angeles to the vibrant awakening of Edna Buchanan’s Miami; from the mid-century tenements of Pete Hamill’s beloved Brooklyn to the haunted viaducts of Stuart Dybek’s Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago; from the natural beauty and human diversity of Charles Johnson’s Seattle to the past and present myths of Richard Ford’s New Orleans, these reminiscences and musings conjure for us the richness and strangeness of any individual’s urban life, the way that our Claire Messud is the author of three imaginations and identities and literary histories are intertwined in a novels and a book of novellas.
