As a former athlete I’m the first to understand that these rules are the bedrock of everything that an athlete or official does in the competition environment. Athletics like all sports is defined by its rules. They provide standardised boundaries for each event discipline and, in turn, clarity and understanding about the decisions taken for the entire athletics family including media and fans. The IAAF Competition Rules control everything from athletes’ eligibility to compete to what clothing can be worn, from anti-doping to medical matters, from lane markings to runways, from take-off boards to wind measurements. Significantly, IAAF Congress in Beijing voted to change Article 2 of the IAAF Constitution to include trail running officially as part of the definition of ‘Athletics’. This decision is reflected with Trail Running added as a separate rule. Also noteworthy: the distances run at the IAAF World Championships Cross Country have been standardised for both men and women as 10km; the Distance Medley Relay and the women’s 50km Race Walk have been added as official World Record events; in line with many other sports, ‘‘Junior’’ has become ‘‘U20’’ and ‘‘Youth’’ is now ‘‘U18’’. These are just some of the changes which mark out the IAAF Competition Rules 2016-2017 as the latest step in the standardisation of athletics, a process which formally began with the foundation of the IAAF over a 100 years ago. Seb Coe IAAF President iv FROM UK ATHLETICS As your new UK Athletics President I am delighted to support the concept of this new combined IAAF rule book incorporating UKA supplements to the IAAF rules. These all appear in a blue font following each IAAF rule and each heading is cross referenced back to the previous equivalent rule number in the 2014 UKA rule book. The aim of the merged rule book is to have just one set of rules for Athletics in the United Kingdom and in particular to standardise technical rules. The supplements cover all technical issues for Under 17 and lower age groups which are not covered in the IAAF rule book and all non-technical matters such as membership, transfer and resignation from a club, and athlete registration which becomes compulsory with effect from 1 April 2016 except for unattached athletes competing in Road Running, Fell, Hill and Mountain Running and Trail Running. You will note from Seb Coe’s preface above the other inclusions and standardisations that have been made by IAAF. On behalf of the UKA Board I would like to thank our Rules Advisory Group for the detailed and extensive work that they have carried out over the past 18 months to produce this ‘‘Competition Rules for use in the United Kingdom 2016- 2018’’.     ESAA RULES 2019 Race Walk Championship Rules 19. The Championships shall be held each year in conjunction with the Combined Events competition final. 20. Ages : The age groups for competition shall be: Junior 13 years and under 15 years Intermediate 15 years and under 17 years Senior 17 years and under 19 years 21. Eligibility as defined in Competition Rule 3 is applicable to the calendar year of competition. 22. Competitors and Reserves . Counties shall be entitled to enter ten (10) individual competitors in each Championship event, from whom six (6) shall be selected to walk. 23. County Stewards . County Stewards, at least one of whom shall be a man and one a woman in the event of competitors being from both boys and girls sections, shall be in the minimum ratio of one to every twelve competitors or part thereof, subject to a maximum of four County Stewards. 24. Entries . Entry forms shall reach the Race Walking Secretary at least 16 days before the Race Walk Championships and must be accompanied by the relevant contribution per competitor. The rate of such contributions shall be decided annually by the General Committee. No entries shall be accepted from an Association whose affiliation fees are outstanding. No late or amended entries shall be accepted after the closing date. All selected walkers shall be declared in writing at least half an hour before the start of the Race Walk Championships. Numbers supplied by the ESAA shall be worn on the breast and on the back and be clearly visible. All races shall be held wholly on the track.

    MFA Boston, Museum to Launch First Online Catalogue, Press Release, p. 1 Contact: Karen Frascona 617.369.3442 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, BOSTON, TO LAUNCH ITS FIRST ONLINE CATALOGUE, PAINTINGS OF THE AMERICAS BOSTON, MA (February 16, 2012)—Just in time for Presidents’ Day, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), will debut on February 20 its first online catalogue, Paintings of the Americas. The free digital publication, available at www.mfa.org/americanpaintings, will feature a selection of more than 400 paintings from its collection of nearly 2,000 (including new acquisitions) created by artists from the 17th through the 20th centuries. The online catalogue was produced to complement the Museum’s Art of the Americas Wing. This is the first publication in a generation to document the MFA’s world-renowned holdings of American paintings, along with those that represent the broader Paintings of the Americas is the MFA’s first online catalogue, which is offered for free at www.mfa.org/americanpaintings spectrum of the Americas. With its elegant design, ease of use, and access to a wide range of information, Paintings of the Americas tells a compelling story through a chronological exploration of diverse works from North, Central, and South America. It also showcases masterworks by John Singleton Copley, Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Wifredo Lam.     ATHLETICS INCLUSIVE APRIL - JUNE 2021 Welcome to the second edition of the quarterly equality, diversity and inclusion news from UK Athletics, Athletics Northern Ireland, England Athletics, Scottish Athletics and Welsh Athletics. PARA INCLUSION Welsh Athletics As part of our ongoing commitment to closer working with Disability Sport Wales [DSW], Welsh Athletics is in the process of recruiting a jointly funded Para Athletics Pathway Coordinator. We have seen great recent success at the European Para-athletics Championships with a total of 7 medals from Welsh Athletes and we hope this joint working will continue and build on this success as the organisation become more closely integrated. The role will support the development and progression of Para Athletes within the Athletics Pathway (from community through to performance) as identified by Disability Sport Wales and Welsh Athletics. It will aim to ensure that all Para Athletes within the pathway have access to appropriate and meaningful community opportunities to support individual needs. There will also be mentoring and upskilling outreach support for athletes, coaches, clubs and key contacts in collaboration with the DSW Performance Pathway Team and WA. This is an exciting opportunity in a role which will be fully integrated into the Welsh Athletics Performance team at the start of preparations for the Birmingham 2022 Games. Scottish Athletics With athletics training returning across the country, a Safe Return to Training guide has been produced for wheelchair and frame running to remind athletes, coaches and clubs of the extra safety considerations. The guidance highlights equipment checks, how to minimise risks, training safely on the track and training safely on the road.

    Shoes Approved by World Athletics - as at 01 October 2021 1. This list is primarily a list concerns shoes that which have been assessed by World Athletics to date. 2. The assessment and whether a shoe is approved or not is determined by several different factors as set out in Technical Rule 5. 3. The list is not a complete list of every shoe that has ever been worn by an athlete. If a shoe is not on the list, it can be because a manufacturer has failed to submit the shoe, it has not been approved or is an old model / shoe. Any shoe from before 1 January 2016 is deemed to meet the technical requirements of Technical Rule 5 and does not need to be approved unless requested This deemed approval does not prejudice the rights of World Athletics or Referees set out in the Rules and Regulations. 4.     Contacts: Karen Frascona Amelia Kantrovitz 617.369.3442 617.369.3447 [email protected] [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NAGOYA/BOSTON MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS CELEBRATES 15th ANNIVERSARY WITH MILLET, BARBIZON AND FONTAINEBLEAU EXHIBITION BOSTON, MA—In April 2014, Japan’s Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts (N/BMFA) and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), celebrate the 15th anniversary of America’s first and only sister museum in Asia. Throughout the partnership, which has welcomed more than 4 million visitors to the N/BMFA since 1999, numerous exhibitions have brought Boston’s artistic treasures to Japan. To mark the anniversary, and celebrate the Museum’s historic relationship with Japan, the MFA has organized Millet, Barbizon and Fontainebleau, which is on view in Nagoya April 19–August 31, 2014. A highlight of the exhibition, Jean-François Millet’s masterpiece The Sower (1850), will travel to Japan along with a number of important works from the MFA’s renowned collection of French paintings from the mid-19th century. In Japan, Millet, Barbizon and The Sower, 1850, Fontainebleau also travels to the Museum of Art, Kochi, and the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Jean-François Millet Museum, Tokyo. Additionally, a series of special events and programs in Nagoya surrounding the 15-year anniversary includes a Directors' Dialogue with Dr. Shunkichi Baba, Director of the N/BMFA, and Malcolm Rogers, the MFA’s Ann and Graham Gund Director. This exhibition of 64 paintings displays one of the world’s premier collections of landscape art from 19th-century France, and features artists including Millet, Camille Corot, Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Penã, Théodore Rousseau and Claude Monet.

Even when you will have members attending it would be good for me to have some of your ideas as to these things, so that though I may be for or against them I have some feedback from my region, please mail me your comments and I will make a list for the meeting in August. University, Pazm! any! set! any! 1, H-1117 Budapest, Hungary Accepted5 February 2002 Abstract On the rotating Earth, in addition to the Newtonian gravitational force, two additional relevant inertial forces are induced, the centrifugal andCoriolis forces. Using computer modellingfor typical release heights andoptimal release angles, we compare the influence of Earth rotation on the range of the male hammer throw andshot put with that of air resistance, wind,air pressure and temperature, altitude and ground obliquity. Practical correction maps are presented, by which the ranges achieved at different latitudes and/or with different release directions can be corrected by a term involving the effect of Earth rotation. Our main conclusion andsuggestion is that the normal variations of certain environmental factors can be substantially larger than the smallest increases in the world records as acknowledged by the International Amateur Athletic Federation and, therefore, perhaps these should be accounted for in a normalization and adjustment of the world records to some reference conditions. Although this suggestion has certainly been made before, the comprehensiveness of our study makes it even more compelling. Our numerical calculations contribute to the comprehensive understanding and tabulation of these effects, which is largely lacking today. r 2002 Elsevier
