A fair entry of prime cattle but few butchers’ type cattle forward which affected the overall averages. Plenty of demand for well-finished cattle. An entry of nice South Devons from Rosemary Hocking of St. Buryan were the highlight selling to a solid trade with a top steer at 623kg selling at 195p/kg to David King of Exeter. She also had top value for a South Devon steer at £1,256 purchased by Messrs. Rapson of Tavistock.

Cull cow numbers are short at the current time with good demand and trade, especially for well-fleshed types. Friesians selling to 117p/kg and £936 for an 800kg cow for Mr. T.F. Sampson of St. East purchased by Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh. Few good beef types forward saw a top of 104p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus x cow from Mr. O.M. Harris of Moorswater and bought by David Ellis of Lelant.

A better entry of store cattle for early January saw a cracking trade with plenty of demand around the ring. Topping at £1,065 was a 20 month old South Devon x steer from Mr. C. Eustice of with a trio of Limousin x steers from the same farm at £975. Top Limousin x steer at £990 for Messrs. R.J. & E.J. Mosley of Porthtowan. A nice entry of similar age Devons from Mr. C. Ferkin of St. Mewan saw best to £915. A super pair of 9½ month old Charolais steers along with an 8 month old Limousin x from Messrs. H. Williams & Son of Tehidy sold at £710. On the heifer side, two British Blue crosses for Messrs. T.G. & Son of St. Levan topped at £890.
