SPRAGUE HIGH SCHOOL HOME OF THE OLYMPIANS ATHLETICS

ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES Welcome to February! Here are a few important details regarding OSAA information and Season 2 coming up this month. The School Activities Association (OSAA) published athletic season schedules last December and Season 2 is scheduled to begin this month with Football tentatively starting on February 8th. Cross country, boys and girls soccer, and volleyball are scheduled to begin on February 22nd. FamilyID is open for student athletes to begin registering on our Sprague school website under “Athletics.” Please double check to make sure your sports physical is up-to-date and will not expire during your season, along with maintaining academic eligibility by passing 3 or more classes during quarter 2 and passing 3 or more classes during quarter 3. Students may only sign up for one sport during Season 2. Some good news, we are not charging athletic/activity fees this school year. There may be additional fees for your activity, but there will not be the typical $175 fee for participation. We are currently hosting outdoor workouts following all the OHA guidelines that we have had in place, including cleaning protocols and check in systems. We are limited to 50 people, including coaches based on OHA guidance in each outdoor athletic space. It is very possible that we will be limited to no spectators, we are anticipating providing an online live feed for games in our stadium and gymnasium. It will be a subscription-based service. We are still waiting for additional guidance on moving forward with our sports season. Regardless of any decisions, we are anticipating being able to continue workouts with our students. Please look on our school athletic website for updated information. Go Olys! Clinton Gertenrich Athletic Director

HOME OF THE OLYMPIANS SPRAGUE HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS THE OSAA DOES HAVE MINIMUM ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION. As students begin the 2020-21 school year, it’s important that our students who plan to participate in Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) sports and/or activities are aware of, and follow requirements for eligibility. ACADEMIC ELIGILIBILITY SKPS students must meet ALL of the following minimum OSAA academic requirements: • Enrollment: Students must be enrolled in at least 1.5 credits (three of four classes) during the quarterly grading period of the season they wish to participate. AND • Credits Earned: Previous Grading Period Students must have earned (passed), at least 1.5 credits during the previous transcript quarter. AND • On-track to Graduate Upon entering the 2020-21 school year, students need to have earned at least: • Sophomores (Grade 10): 4.5 credits • Juniors (Grade 11): 10 credits • Seniors (Grade 12): 17.5 credits These requirements are in place for all SKPS students, including students participating in the EDGE Online Program who plan to participate in sports or activities with their home school. All students who wish to participate in any OSAA sports must have a current OSAA sports physical on file with their school, which must remain current throughout the entire participation season . OSAA sports physical forms can be found on the OSAA website. If you are not sure if you or your child will meet any of these OSAA eligibility requirements, please contact the Athletic Director at your home school. If you feel that although you do not meet any of the above requirements, participation eligibility should be granted due to individual circumstances, there is an OSAA eligibility appeal process that your Athletic/Activities Director can assist you with.

SPRAGUE HIGH SCHOOL HOME OF THE OLYMPIANS HONORING OUR ORCHESTRA SENIORS These amazing Orchestra Seniors have been in Orchestra all 4 years of High School!

KELSEY COCHRAN VIOLIN Kelsey plans on going to a four-year university, most likely , to double major in biology and Spanish and then she plans to further her education by going on to medical school. She would like to continue playing the violin and tennis by participating in clubs in college. Kelsey performed with the Advanced Symphony Orchestra at the 2019 State Competition. In the nightly rehearsals before the State Competition, Kelsey was always there and was a great collaborator. She is a hard working musician and very kind. In addition to being a great violinist, she is also a talented and competitive racquetball player.

KARLEE HARAGAN VIOLIN Karlee is a talented violinist and has always been an asset to Sprague Orchestra! Before CDL Karlee was in Symphony Strings. Karlee plans to go into nursing, something in the medical field, or forensics. She hopes to attend Chemeketa's nursing program. If not, then she will complete her core credits for college at Chemeketa and transfer to a four-year university. Karlee has been in Orchestra her entire high school career and is always a joy to have in class. Her smile is contagious. She's a big part of what made Orchestra fun; when Symphony Strings had in-person rehearsals, she kept everyone smiling.

ALAINA PAPRITZ VIOLIN Alaina is a skilled violinist and valuable contributor! Alaina was a member of Symphony Strings before CDL started. Alaina plans to start college in the fall of 2021. She will attend BYU or BYU Provo. Her hope is to major in something that will help her get into the Occupational Therapy master's program at the University of Utah. She also plans on going on a church mission after a semester or year of college. Alaina shared with the class a really fun video of her dog howling while her sister practiced the oboe during CDL. Alaina is a diligent musician and a great stand partner who is always kind to everyone.

GAVIN WARNER CELLO Gavin was a part of the Advanced Symphony and Camarata orchestras before CDL. Next year Gavin plans to go to BYU Utah. He is currently undecided on a major but is considering biology or pre-med. In addition to being a talented cellist, Gavin is also an incredible pianist. Gavin has shared his gifts on both instruments with the orchestras over the past four years including performing with the orchestras at state championships. He is kind to all and is a big asset to the Orchestra program.

PETER WIRFS DOUBLE BASS We have enjoyed having Peter as a Double Bass player! Peter has enjoyed his time in Symphony Strings before CDL. His future plans are to go to college and seek higher education. According to Peter, this may be generic, but it should lead to a prosperous life. Peter is an awesome bass player. He is fun to have in class and always keeps everyone laughing with his wonderful sense of humor. Peter is dependable and an intuitive musician! Because music is already a part of his family because his dad is also a Bass Player, we expect Peter will be playing Bass in many different genres in future!!
