Pectoral fins with 14 or 15 thickened rays. Scales absent, except for lateral line, but body densely covered with tubercles. Lateral-line scales present; usually 11 to 19 tubed scales. All species possess extrinsic striated swimbladder musculature. Vertebrae 24. Colour: orbicular velvetfish are either pale pinkish white with numerous small black spots, or light brown or greenish and with orange spots or reticulations. Habitat, biology, and fisheries: Velvetfishes live within the branches of Acropora, Poecillopora, and Stylophora corals, rarely venturing far from the coral head. -

The current paper presents an initial analysis of the higher-level disaggregation using the Handbook of the Birds of the World/BirdLife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World Volumes 1 and 2 taxonomy, and identifies the challenges in completing the analysis to identify all of the migratory species and the corresponding Range States. The document has been prepared by the COP Appointed Scientific Councilors for Birds. Altogether there are now 16 known localities in France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria indicating that the species is well es‐ tablished for a rather long period and more widespread in Europe and perhaps worldwide. As in North America it lives on honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos L.), overwinters in the egg stage and probably has one or two generations a year, with adults at least from late June until early October. It is yet unclear if it causes relevant damage to the host plant in Europe. Keywords: alien species, neozoa, plant pests, Iassinae, Gleditsia 1. Introduction In 2012 a leafhopper was found in several localities in central Europe that was hitherto unknown to European hemipterists. Extensive search in taxonomic litera‐ ture from all around the world revealed that it was Penestragania apicalis (Osborn & Ball, 1898). This species was originally described from Iowa and Nebraska as a member of the genus Macropsis Lewis, 1834 (see Osborn & Ball 1898a), later placed into Bythoscopus Germar, 1833, Stragania Stål, 1862 (see Metcalf 1966a), and finally Penestragania Beamer & Lawson, 1945. The latter was originally erected as a subge‐ nus only and later raised to genus level by Blocker (1979) who limited the genus Stragania to the type species St. -

A species list, identification key, short diagnoses and illustrations of all taxa are given. Brief information on known ecological preferences of species is given. INTRODUCTION Anthicidae are a cosmopolitan family of small to medium-sized, fast-moving beetles of the superfamily Tenebrionoidea. Anthicidae are represented in the World fauna by approximately 100 genera, and about 3500 species (Chandler, 2010). Only a few species are known from the fossil record. The last revision of the British Anthicidae was published by F. D. Buck (1954) in the well-known series Handbooks for the Identification of British Insects. Since then, there have been numerous nomenclatural changes within Anthicidae, and some additional species (introduced) have been recorded from the UK, making Buck’s key out of date. During 2004 and 2005 a total of 3356 specimens of Anthicidae from the UK and Ireland were examined by the author, mainly from the collections of The Natural History Museum (London), Oxford University Museum of Natural History and National Museum of Ireland. Additional data for more than 2100 specimens were received from other British museums and private collections between 2005 and 2007. A new key and short diagnoses for the genera are presented, as well as data on habitats and general distribution of species. -

Medler INTRODUCTION HIS bulletin attempts to present as accurate and complete a T guide to the leafhoppers of Minnesota as possible within the limits of the material available for study. It is realized that cer- tain groups could not be treated completely because of the lack of available material. Nevertheless, it is hoped that in its present form this treatise will serve as a convenient and useful manual for the systematic and economic worker concerned with the forms of the upper Mississippi Valley. In all cases a reference to the original description of the species and genus is given. Keys are included for the separation of species, genera, and supergeneric groups. In addition to the keys a brief diagnostic description of the important characters of each species is given. Extended descriptions or long lists of references have been omitted since citations to this literature are available from other sources if ac- tually needed (Van Duzee, 1917). -

The following gen- era are the most diverse: Bembidion (47 species), Amara and Harpalus (21 each), Pterostichus (14), and Nebria (13). The subarid (35%) and boreal (32%) species prevail in the arealogical spectrum, while the mountain endem- ics comprise 13% of the fauna. The carabid fauna of SEA is heterogeneous in composition and differs significantly from that of the Western and Central Altai. The boreal mountain component mostly comprises tundra species with circum-boreal or circum-arctic ranges, while the subarid component (typical Mongolian together with Ancient Mediterranean species) forms more than one-half of the species diversity in the mountain basins. The species diver- sity increases from the nival mountain belt (15 species, predominantly Altai-Sayan endemics) to moss-lichen tun- dras (40, mostly boreal, species). -

Part II diagnoses 44 species of the family Scarabaeidae (subfami- lies Aphodiinae and Scarabaeinae). In addition, M. J. Paulsen and D. C. Hawks (personal communication, 2007) brought to our attention that Sinodendron rugosum Mannerheim (Lucanidae) occurs in San Diego County. This family should have been included in Part I, so we provide a diagnosis of the Lucanidae in this paper. In addition, Paulsen (2007) published nomenclatural changes and described two new genera of Nearctic Ochodaeidae while Part I was in press. -
