Sotheby’s reported second quarter 2012 net income of $85.4 million, a decrease of 33% from the prior year period, and total revenues of $303.9 million, down 18%, when compared to the prior year period. For the six months ended June 30, 2012, the Company reported net income of $74.8 million, a decrease of 42%, and total revenues of $408.9 million, down 16%, when compared to the prior year period. The lower levels of revenues and profitability in the current periods reflect a decrease in net auction sales when compared to the prior year periods and in particular, a 67% decline in single owner sales volume in the second quarter and a 55% decline in the first half. The impact of the decline in total revenues is partially offset by reductions in total expenses of $13.6 million, or 8%, in the second quarter and $8.5 million, or 3%, in the first half. -

Aber das war ihm wohl zu langweilig VELDEN INTERVIEW RALF EIBL FOTOS GUNTER SACHS Zwei Schweizer Künstler, Toast und Dare, gestalte- ten Sachs’ Turmwohnung am Wörthersee. Hier das Schlafzimmer mit Passage zum Bad. Die lazy lady ist aus Tusche. Zähren und Spritzer verweisen bewusst auf den Ursprung von Graffiti: die Straße, wo für die Entstehung solcher Werke oft nur eine Nacht bleibt. ast vierzig Jahre ist es her, da holte Gunter Sachs schon einmal ein paar junge Künstler in die Turm- wohnung eines Hotels. 1969 war das, die Wohnung lag im „Palace“ in Sankt Moritz, und die Eingeladenen F hießen Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann und Allen Jones. Diesmal steht das Luxushotel am österrei- chischen Wörthersee, die Künstler heißen Dare und Toast – und der Sammler, Förderer, Fotograf und Lebenskünstler Sachs, der sich die feudalsten Interiors der Welt leisten könn- te, hat erneut getan, was er am besten kann: überraschen. Viereinhalb Wochen lang, meist nachts, stiegen die zwei Sprayer im malerisch gelegenen „Schlosshotel Velden“ (be- kannt als Schauplatz der TV-Serie „Ein Schloss am Wörther- see“) die Treppen hoch, packten ihre Rucksäcke aus, nahmen die Kappen von den Sprühdosen und machten sich an die Ar- beit. Die beiden sind keine Unbekannten. Dare ist mit seinen 39 Jahren einer der erfahrensten und renommiertesten Graf- fiti-Artists der Schweiz; er stellte bereits mit Banksy aus, dem Superstar der Szene. Auch Mitstreiter Toast ist kein unbe- schriebenes Blatt. Im Oktober veröffentlicht der 33-Jährige unter dem Titel „Black Ink“ ein Buch mit seinen Arbeiten aus den vergangenen fünfzehn Jahren. -

Izložba istražuje kategoriju Beskonačnog, Beskrajnog, Bezmjernog, u svojim višeslojnim oblicima: od nedovršenog do neograničenog, putem multidisciplinarnog pristupa gdje se umjetnost, filozofija, znanost te različite epohe susreću i ogledavaju. Ovom se izložbom završava i upotpunjuje izuzetno kvalitetna trilogija koju je začeo Axel Vervoordt u Veneciji 2007. god. izložbom Artempo: Where time becomes art – koja je nastojala istražiti odnos umjetnosti i vremena te njihovo prikazivanje putem različitih stoljeća, mjesta, tendencija i ekspresivnih izražaja – da bi zatim ciklus proslijedio 2008. god. pariškom izložbom »Academia: Qui es-tu?« koja se bazirala na transmisiji, prijenosu znanja i mudrosti te na uvijek prisutnoj ljudskoj kondiciji da si postavlja pitanja i traži odogovore. SSppiirriittuuaallnnii ppuutt Element koji ujedinjuje sve izložbe trilogije – osim izvanredno snažnog emotivnog učinka te intenzivnog doživljaja samog postava – jest propitivanje bezbrojnih mogućnosti relacija i odnosa među umjetničkim izričajima različitih perioda i kultura te naposlijetku, propitivanje samog smisla života. Upustiti se ukoštac s konceptom »beskrajnog« znači krenuti na spiritualni put. Čovjek po svojoj prirodi teži ka savršenstvu, ostvarenju, te se istovremeno neprestano mjeri s vlastitim ograničenjima, s nedostižnim. Beskrajno – kao put bez kraja, put prema potpunosti i (sa)znanju – izvor je inspiracije nebrojenim umjetnicima, znanstvenicima, književnicima još od početka čovjekove ere. -

Cette exposition conçue en collaboration étroite avec Kynaston McShine pour le MOMA regroupera quelques 200 oeuvres retraçant le parcours de l'artiste mort en 1987. Pour la circonstance, les plus grandes collections privées et publiques ont accepté de se séparer d'oeuvres majeures. L'ensemble réuni est le plus important montré en France à ce jour . Seule l'exposition à l'ARC en 1970 ainsi que la présentation de l'ensemble des oeuvres autour de Mao Tsetong au Palais Gallieria en 1974 avaient donné au public en France la possibilité d'une première vision de son oeuvre . L'exposition du Musée national d'art moderne offre de salle en salle des ensembles à même de développer une vision thématique et chronologique couvrant les années 1960-1987. -

April 26, 2012 MONA/TMAG Museum of Old and New Art/Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery announce Theatre of the World June 23, 2012 to April 8, 2013 Australia’s largest collaboration between a private and public institution, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), announce a major winter exhibition commencing at MONA on June 23. The exhibition entitled, Theatre of the World, will present 4,000 years of creativity and rival the blockbuster shows held during this time at other major public institutions around Australia. It is timed to draw national and international visitors to Tasmania during the traditionally slow winter and spring months. Theatre of the World will include more than 160 works from David Walsh’s private collection and approximately 300 works from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery’s collection. The works will be displayed across MONA’s temporary exhibition galleries alongside special commissions and selected loans from other major national and international collections. Visitors will enter a series of 16 galleries containing a prodigal and discontinuous array of objects reflecting some 4,000 years of human creativity. Works such as: taxidermic birds; parts of animal skeletons; ancient Chinese ceramics; water colour portraits from Georgian England; First World War “trench art”; Egyptian stone carvings, mummy cases, and funerary objects; African beadwork and woodwork; Aboriginal bark paintings and shields; natural history illustration; Melanesian artefacts; corals, and shells and animal skeletons; curiosities; contemporary art works, photographs and videos; geological specimens; scientific instruments; and teapots, along with more than 80 barkcloths from across the Pacific.
