maxon motor Australia Pty Ltd Unit 1, 12 -14 Beaumont Rd. Mount Kuring -Gai NSW 2080 Tel. +61 2 9457 7477 [email protected] www.maxongroup.net.au October 02, 2019 The much -anticipated launch of the first two AC75 foiling monohull yachts from the Defender Emir- ates Team New Zealand and USA Challenger NYYC American Magic respectively did not disappoint the masses of America’s Cup fans waiting eagerly for their first gl impse of an AC75 ‘in the flesh’. Emirates Team New Zealand were the first to officially reveal their boat at an early morning naming cere- mony on September 6. Resplendent in the team’s familiar red, black and grey livery, the Kiwi AC75 was given the Maori nam e ‘Te Aihe’ (Dolphin). Meanwhile, the Americans somewhat broke with protocol by carrying out a series of un -announced test sails and were the first team to foil their AC75 on the water prior to a formal launch ceremony on Friday September 14 when their dark blue boat was given t he name ‘Defiant’. But it was not just the paint jobs that differentiated the first two boats of this 36th America’s Cup cycle – as it quickly became apparent that the New Zealand and American hull designs were also strikingly differ- ent.On first compar ison the two teams’ differing interpretations of the AC75 design rule are especially obvi- ous in the shape of the hull and the appendages. While the New Zealanders have opted for a bow section that is – for want of a better word – ‘pointy’, the Americans h ave gone a totally different route with a bulbous bow that some have described as ‘scow -like’ – although true scow bows are prohibited in the AC75 design rule. -
World Sailing News Esailgp Championship Returns with New
World Sailing News eSailGP Championship returns with new innovations for 2021 With less than three weeks before the eight international teams meet on the water in Bermuda for the league's return to racing, SailGP today launched the 2021 eSailGP Championship. Building on the success of the inaugural season, which saw more than 146,000 unique players take part across 55,783 individual races, fans will have a chance to test their skills piloting one of the most innovative race boats in the world in a virtual environment on new courses and with new-look boats. The Championship winner will be rewarded with an all-inclusive package to a SailGP event in 2022 and a place in the 2021 eSailing World Championship Final. In partnership with World Sailing and Virtual Regatta, the championship will feature six qualification events over the course of the first half of the season, with a spot in the eSailGP Grand Final on October 15 up for grabs for the winners. The eSailGP Grand Final will see the two gamers with the highest points after three fleet races face off in a single winner-takes-all match race. Two wildcard berths will also be available at the final for a female player and a youth player, who will be selected by a panel of judges. This initiative is in line with SailGP's immediate focus on the advancement of gender equity and its program to fast-track the training and development of female athletes for participation in SailGP. eSailGP Season 1 amassed 753,000 views on SailGP's social platforms and the league has been working to further bring the live shows to life for players and followers, including enhanced graphics, explainer videos and a reinforced expert commentary team. -
World Sailing News Q1 2021
News | Q1 | 2021 1 World Sailing News | Q1 | 2021 Presidential Welcome It is an honour to introduce you to the first edition of World Sailing News. Upon my election last November, I outlined my intention for World Sailing to communicate better with its Member National Authorities, Regional Associations, Class Associations, Committee members, and the hard-working volunteers that make our sport work, from the grassroots to the peak of performance. I hope that the introduction of these quarterly newsletters will help to achieve that. Open communication within our sport has always been important, but given the current climate, it is more crucial now than it has ever been. It is important that World Sailing takes the lead by sharing best practice, forming new ideas and creating inspiring content that touches all aspects of our sport. It is also vital that this material is well distributed across our community. It is a pity that we have not been able to meet face to face for so long, but I have enjoyed meeting and engaging with you directly and via our Regional Meetings. It is important that our dialogue works two ways so we can work together to grow the beautiful sport we all love. Sailgp: HUMAN PERFORMANCE ELEVATES INNOVATION
SailGP: HUMAN PERFORMANCE ELEVATES INNOVATION PREVIEW PRESS RELEASE Geneva, 21 April 2021 – The much-anticipated Season 2 of SailGP, the global championship that has redefined sailing, commences in Bermuda on 24 April. Rolex, whose proud association with yachting stretches back more than 60 years, has partnered the sporting league since its inaugural season in 2019. The ethos and vision behind SailGP and, notably, the platform it provides for technological innovation and human achievement, perfectly complements Rolex’s perpetual quest for excellence SailGP unites world-class athletic talent and cutting-edge technology. Eight teams representing Australia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the United States will contest eight events held in as many countries over an 11-month period. Following the season opener in Bermuda, the championship visits renowned sailing locations in Italy, the United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Spain and New Zealand. San Francisco, United States, has the honour of closing proceedings with the Grand Final on 26–27 March 2022. Among those vying for the crown is the Great Britain team led by Rolex Testimonee and four-time Rolex World Sailor of the Year, Sir Ben Ainslie. “The sailing world was crying out for the creation of such a concept,” explains Ainslie. “SailGP is a major milestone in the evolution of yachting, but it also represents continuity. The combination of state-of-the-art technology and sporting prowess is widening the appeal of sailing.” Each event comprises a series of intense fleet races to determine the pairing for the final winner-takes-all match race. The competing 15-metre (49.2 foot), 2,400 kg F50 catamarans push the technological envelope.
