Start Your Day Right The fi rst meal of the day could be the most important one. Fueling our bodies after a night’s rest replenishes our blood sugar and provides the energy we need to ensure both mind and muscles can perform at their best. A Harvard study suggests that eating breakfast regularly has been linked to a lower risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. So there’s a great motivator. A good breakfast is especially important on those days when morning exercise is on the agenda. Skipping breakfast before a workout or power walk is not a good idea and can leave us feeling light-headed and lethargic, but choosing the right food for breakfast is also important. A simple carb breakfast of white toast or a donut will not keep us feeling full for long but one that is fi ber-rich and protein-rich will keep us going for hours. Try to minimize the sugar-laden cereals and instead go for oatmeal, bran or other whole-grain cereals which are high in fi ber. If pancakes are your preferred breakfast, replace some of the all-purpose fl our with whole-grain options, and if you like fresh toast, use whole-grain bread and pair it with an egg, peanut butter or fresh avocado. Fluids are also vital for good health and water, milk and tea provide healthy options to keep us hydrated and help us avoid muscle strains or injury. Wild Harvest Granola 13, 2019 Aug.
