FC Schalke 04 welcome back a familiar face in Hamit Altıntop when Galatasaray AŞ visit Gelsenkirchen for the second leg of the clubs' UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie. • Hamit Altıntop spent four seasons with Schalke, his home-town club, while team-mates , Engin Baytar, Ceyhun Gülselam and Furkan Özçal were also born in Germany. • Both clubs have cause for confidence, with Schalke unbeaten at home in this season's UEFA Champions League and Galatasaray looking to complete a hat-trick of away victories in the competition. The club hold an away-goals advantage following the 1-1 first-leg draw in Istanbul. Their only other run to the last eight was back in 1958/59. • The German club have won eight of the ten UEFA competition ties in which they have drawn the first leg away, although both defeats – against FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup round of 32 (0-1 home) and Wisła Kraków in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup third round (1-4 home) – came after 1-1 draws. FC Schalke 04: Jens Keller Date of birth: 24 November 1970 Nationality: German Playing career: VfL Wangen, VfB Stuttgart (twice), TSV 1860 München, VfL Wolfsburg, 1. FC Köln, Eintracht Frankfurt Coaching career: VfB Stuttgart (youth), VfB Stuttgart, FC Schalke 04 (youth), FC Schalke 04 • Having risen through Stuttgart's youth department, Keller made his first and only Bundesliga appearance in 1990 before leaving for third-tier 1860 München, where he helped the club to win promotion to the second and then first divisions. • A fringe player in the Bundesliga, he moved to second division Wolfsburg and again won promotion, subsequently becoming a top-flight regular and earning a return to Stuttgart, where he played in the 1998/99 UEFA Cup. • Joined Köln in 2000 but relegated two years later, prompting a switch to Eintracht, whom he helped into the Bundesliga only to miss most of the season with cartilage damage; relegation and further injury problems led to retirement in 2005. • Took over Stuttgart's Under-19 side in 2008/09 and became Christian Gross's assistant with the first team in December 2009; the following October, replaced Gross as head coach but lasted only two months before making way for Bruno Labbadia, although Keller continued to work for the club as a scout. • Appointed Schalke's U17 coach in summer 2012, on 16 December that year he stepped up to the senior side following Huub Stevens' departure.

Galatasaray AŞ: Fatih Terim Date of birth: 4 September 1953 Nationality: Turkish Playing career: Adana Demirspor, Galatasaray AŞ Coaching career: MKE Ankaragücü, Göztepe AŞ, Turkey Under-21, Turkey (twice), Galatasaray AŞ (three times), ACF Fiorentina, AC Milan • A central defender, Terim played for Galatasaray for over a decade and represented Turkey 51 times, 31 of them as captain. He started his coaching career with MKE Ankaragücü and then Göztepe, before he was named assistant to national team boss Sepp Piontek and put in charge of the Under-21s in 1991. • Appointed Turkey coach in 1993 and led them to EURO '96. They lost all of their games in England, but just getting to the final tournament, Turkey's first since the 1954 FIFA World Cup, was a major landmark. • After EURO '96 he returned to Galatasaray, winning four league titles and the 2000 UEFA Cup. Serie A came calling and Terim took charge of Fiorentina and Milan before returning to Galatasaray, but problems behind the scenes brought about a temporary retirement in 2004. • Reappointed by Turkey in 2005 following a break from management, Terim – known as 'Imparator' (The Emperor) for his leadership skills – could not guide the team through a 2006 FIFA World Cup play-off against Switzerland. Success followed at UEFA EURO 2008, however, with Terim leading Ay Yıldızlılar (The Crescent-Stars) to the semi-finals, but he resigned following his side's unsuccessful bid to reach the 2010 FIFA World Cup. • Returned for a third spell in charge of Galatasaray in May 2011 and in his first season back steered Cimbom to their first Süper Lig crown in four years.

UEFA Champions League knockout stage: Did you know? • Teams have recovered from a first-leg deficit to go through on 28 occasions, including SL Benfica, APOEL FC, FC Bayern München and Chelsea FC in 2011/12. Only twice – AFC Ajax's defeat of Panathinaikos FC in the 1995/96 semi-finals and FC Internazionale Milano's win against FC Bayern München in the 2010/11 round of 16 – has a side progressed after a home first-leg loss. • The biggest losing margin a side has overturned was achieved by RC Deportivo La Coruña in the 2003/04 quarter-finals when they lost 4-1 at AC Milan but won 4-0 at home. • Twenty-one ties have been decided on away goals, including six where the triumphant team lost the first leg. • In all, 21 ties have required extra time. Eight have been decided by extra time alone: four quarter-finals, three round of 16 encounters and the 2007/08 semi-final between Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC. • Thirteen ties have gone to penalties, including six finals – 1996, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2012. The first two-legged tie decided on spot kicks was PSV Eindhoven's 4-2 win against Lyon on 13 April 2005 after a 2-2 aggregate draw. • There has never been a knockout tie ending goalless after two legs. Ten have finished 1-0 on aggregate, most recently Tottenham Hotspur FC's narrow victory against AC Milan in the 2010/11 round of 16. • FC Bayern München hold the record for the biggest first-leg lead with a 5-0 success at Sporting Clube de Portugal in the 2008/09 round of 16, eventually going through 12-1 after a 7-1 home victory in the second leg. Those two games also featured more goals (13) over its two legs than any UEFA Champions League knockout tie. • FC Bayern München's 7-0 second-leg defeat of FC Basel 1893 in the 2011/12 round of 16 is the largest margin of victory in a UEFA Champions League knockout match. • Clarence Seedorf is the only player to win the European Cup with three clubs (AFC Ajax 1995, Real Madrid CF 1998, AC Milan 2003, 2007). Liverpool's Bob Paisley (1977, 1978, 1981) is the only coach to win three times. • Ottmar Hitzfeld (Borussia Dortmund 1997, Bayern 2001), Ernst Happel (Feyenoord 1970, Hamburger SV 1983) and José Mourinho (FC Porto 2004, FC Internazionale Milano 2010) are the only coaches to win the trophy with two clubs. • Chelsea FC have become the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, FC Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and lost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round by PFC CSKA Moskva. • No team has successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy with AC Milan (1989, 1990) the last club to win consecutive European Champion Clubs' Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), AFC Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the final as holders only to lose. • Only two teams have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Borussia Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome), while Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München. UEFA Champions League: Did you know? • Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in FC Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 7 March 2012. Eight players, including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently FC Bayern München's Mario Gomez on matchday eight last season. • S.S. Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete having been aged 43 years 252 days when he featured against Real Madrid CF on matchday six of the 2007/08 edition. • Ryan Giggs is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 37 years and 289 days, in Manchester United's 1-1 draw at SL Benfica on 14 September 2011. • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared. He was 16 years and 87 days when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored, aged 17 years and 195 days, in Olympiacos FC's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg BK on 1 October 1997.
