It provides a detailed account of the progress the school has made to provide high quality educational opportunities for all students, as set out in the school plan. It outlines the findings from self–assessment that reflect the impact of key school strategies for improved learning and the benefit to all students from the expenditure of resources, including equity funding. The school motto Respect For All underpins the programs and practices of the school and supports all students to achieve their best. The students at Jamisontown Public School have participated in a variety of programs and events throughout the year. These are focused on fostering a love of learning, celebrating difference and diversity and respect for others. The aim is to develop confident, self–motivated, considerate and responsible citizens. The school continues to have a strong focus on the improvement of learning outcomes for all students, particularly in literacy and numeracy, whilst ensuring that the whole child is being developed academically, socially and emotionally. Programs such as Reading Recovery and Learning Support along with teachers’ class programs ensure that teaching and learning focuses on the improvement of learning outcomes for all students whilst developing teaching skills through quality teaching. The P & C and school community have continued to work hard this year, through their many endeavours, to raise funds for our continued Playground Improvement Program. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of all the students, staff and the school community. A special thank you to the teachers and administrative staff who work so hard to ensure that all students fulfill their potential academically, socially and emotionally, leading to the maximisation of positive life outcomes. It is my pleasure to share our achievements with you as well as to recognize the value of public education within our community. I certify that the information in this report is the result of a rigorous school self–evaluation process and is a balanced and genuine account of the school’s achievements and areas for future development. Lorraine Segula Page 2 of 15 Jamisontown Public School 4544 (2017) Printed on: 22 February, 2018 School background School vision statement Jamisontown Public School’s vision statement is to: • ensure learning, for all students, is based on quality educational delivery and shared professional practices of a high standard, resulting in positive outcomes for 21st century learners; • develop learning programs which meet identified student needs in a way which is purposeful and engaging and are directly related to each student’s stage of learning; • build stronger relationships with all members of the school community by developing their talents, skills and capabilities, thereby leading and inspiring a culture of respectful communication and empowered leadership. School context Jamisontown Public School, situated in South Penrith, has 359 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 6. A majority of students are from English speaking backgrounds, a small number of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) and a slightly larger number are from non–English speaking backgrounds. There is some mobility throughout the year, however most students attend Jamisontown Public School from Kindergarten to Year 6. Jamisontown Public School provides a caring, child–centred environment within which everyone has a sense of belonging. The school is committed to creating a learning community that is safe, tolerant and supportive for all. Learning is an on–going process in which learners increasingly take responsibility for their own education. All students are taught to develop the self–discipline necessary to become independent life–long learners. Our core business is effective teaching and learning to enable all students to make gains in their learning achievements. The key strategies to achieve our purpose are continual professional learning, the implementation of effective teaching and learning programs, professional discussion and RESPECT FOR ALL. Self-assessment and school achievement Self-assessment using the School Excellence Framework This section of the Annual Report outlines the findings from self–assessment using the School Excellence Framework, school achievements and the next steps to be pursued. This year, our school undertook self–assessment using the School Excellence Framework. The framework supports public schools throughout NSW in the pursuit of excellence by providing a clear description of high quality practice across the three domains of Learning, Teaching and Leading. In the domain of Learning, Jamisontown Public School is overall at the Sustaining and Growing stage. This is supported by the demonstrated commitment to deliver and strengthen school learning priorities and the positive, respectful relationships evident among students and staff. Teachers regularly collaboratively plan learning sequences within and across stages which incorporate student data analysis to meet the needs of all students. Professional learning plans are developed and teachers actively engage with these to achieve their professional learning goals. Within the Teaching domain, Jamisontown Public School is Sustaining and Growing. Within the leadership domain, our school is Sustaining and Growing. Staff are provided with opportunities to take on leadership roles within the school. Technology is available and accessible to staff and students. Resources are strategically used to achieve improved student outcomes. Our self–assessment process will assist the school to refine our school plan, leading to further improvements in the delivery of education to our students.     2019-20 ORGANISATIONAL REPORT How we’re going with delivering services, activities and projects for SEPTEMBER our community penrithcity.nsw.gov.au FINANCIAL SERVICES MANAGER’S REPORT Executive Summary This report covers the first quarter of the 2019-20 financial year. It includes details of significant Variations, Reserve Movements and the status of Council’s Operating and Capital Projects compared to budget. Council projected a balanced Budget in the adoption of the original 2019-20 Operational Plan. As is often the case with this first review, the September quarter has presented some variations to the predicted annual budget. The most notable variations in this Review relate to savings associated with the Emergency Services Levy first year funding ($160,509) and salary savings ($139,975), which were offset by a lower than expected 2019-20 Financial Assistance Grant ($292,473) and an increase in Merchant Fees ($76,000). Compared to the phased budget, the overall 2019-20 Budget is generally in line with expectations, with a small surplus of $61,249 currently projected. All variations have been considered and, where a budget adjustment is required, details have been included in the Review.
