The Feast of Pentecost The Feast of Pentecost recalls and celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and Mary as they were gathered in the upper room in prayer. Just as the Spirit hovered over Mary at the conception of Jesus, so now the Spirit comes to bring to birth the community of the church, the Body of Christ. The mission of the followers of Jesus is to carry on the mission of Jesus: to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind; to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year of God’s favor (Luke 4:16-19). For this we are given the Holy Spirit in Baptism and Confirmation and nourished in the Eucharist, so that we can live our lives as Jesus intends us to and bear witness to His love in all that we do. In being faithful to this we will have to face the cross as Jesus did, but we will also come to new life and hope through His Spirit dwelling in us.

Stewardship Prayer Loving and faithful God, we place our lives in your hands. You are our shelter in the storm and our comfort in dark and troubled times. May we always place our trust in you when we find ourselves lost and overwhelmed. You ask us to believe and to keep our eyes focused on you. Send your Spirit to help us do that always. We trust that you are working on our behalf to bring all things to good. May we celebrate the joy and peace of your kingdom that even now is in our midst. We ask this through Christ our risen Lord. Amen. — Submitted by the Stewardship Committee Please stand. Praise we the Lord, Father and Son, And in our hearts take up thy rest; And Holy Spirit with them one; Come with thy grace and heav'nly aid Verse 3 And may the Son on us bestow To fill the hearts which thou hast made, O Holy Ghost, through thee alone, All gifts that from the Spirit flow, To fill the hearts which thou hast made.
