The team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the Football Championship Subdivision schools and certified by the accounting and auditing firm, Marcum LLP. Three Buck Buchanan Award finalists – LB Matt Evans (New Hampshire), DL Brent Russell (Georgia Southern) and DB Trumaine Johnson (Montana) – lead the All-America defensive unit. Evans had 165 tackles and three interceptions for the Wildcats, while Russell totaled 14.5 tackles for loss and six quarterback sacks from his nose tackle position. Johnson had 50 tackles and two interceptions from his cornerback position. Punter David Harrington (Idaho State) is the fourth repeat All-American. Harrington averaged 48.7 yards per punt this season. Two finalists for the Walter Payton Award - RB Shakir Bell (Indiana State) and QB Bo Levi Mitchell (Eastern Washington) – lead the offensive unit. The 2011 Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Bell rushed for 1,670 yards and 14 touchdowns – averaging 151.8 yards per game. Mitchell led the FCS in passing yards (4,009) and touchdowns (33) during the regular-season.
