Quickly: Georgia Southern opens up Sun Belt Conference play this weekend by traveling to Mobile to take on the South Alabama Jaguars ... The 2020-21 Sun Belt Conference schedule has each team in the East Division playing back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday, at each opponent. So the Eagles will play two games against the Jaguars this weekend in Mobile, then on Jan. 22 & 23, South Alabama will make the return trip to Statesboro to play the Eagles twice in Hanner ... Georgia Southern comes into conference play at 4-3 overall, the first time the Eagles have finished a non-conference slate at .500 or better since 2009-10, when the Eagles went 5-4 ... South Alabama is 3-3 on the year, starting out the campaign 3-1 before losing at Auburn, 74-66, on Dec. 13, and losing at New Orleans, 74-64, on Dec. 20 ... Georgia Southern currently ranks 10th in NCAA Division I in turnovers forced per game (23.43) and the Eagles have forced 20 or more turnovers in six straight games, the first time that's happened since Georgia Southern forced 20+ turnovers in eight straight games from Dec. 21, 2006 to Jan. 20, 2007 - a span of 14 years ... For the Jaguars, Preseason SBC Player of the Year Antoinette Lewis has picked up where she left off last season, averaging 14.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game ... The pleasant surprise for the Jaguars in 2020-21 has been the play of Mahogany Vaught, who is averaging a team-leading 14.5 ppg while pilfering 3.5 steals per game. The junior averaged just 1.8 ppg as a sophomore and 1.2 ppg as a freshman ... South Alabama holds a 11-7 series lead between the two schools and has won five straight ...
